Most people put the two holes on that side lower, a little above the substrate, then one hole up high on each short side of the bin.
I just read about this. I was wondering why i keep having humidity issues and had to fan like crazy. Thanks for the tip. I'm buying a drill bit today to modify the tubs once i get them into fruiting
Put some micro pore tape on there and start fruiting conditions
Yep. Straight to fruiting conditions! IME the tub will only start to fruit once it is 80-100% colonized, regardless. So there is no need (for me) to restrict FAE during the colonization period.
To each their own, but it is definitely worth trying out!
I'll do this with the next tubs soon. Makes more sense not to restrict fae since gourmet growers don't do it either.
In a week or so. I just spawned to bulk, the holes are duct taped (but i used some kind of transparent tape that's why they look empty)
Entering it to fruiting conditions knock off about a week or two
I'll try that at some point. I'm just going with what's been working for me so far but i get what you're saying
Looks like your holes on the sides are too high on the tub they need to be at the level of your substrate on the sides for proper air flow just an observation
Nice, good job
You are going to have some tall ass mushie with them holes that high. You will most likely still have to fan to move that air around you want the two holes on long sides of the tub an inch at most above substrate
Thanks, after the comments here made some research and turns out that's why i had to fan like crazy when using that tub. The lower one is a "zombie tub" and has the small holes at sub level so i guess that's fine right?
Ya that looks better, but you should get some micropore tape on there. Go straight to fruiting Conditions, if you're not. I'm assuming you have them covered with tape right?
Yes, they're covered with transparent tape right now. So is this the new consensus? (putting tubs straight to fruiting i mean)
I always have. The myc knows when to throw fruits, I have had less contams, and thicker growth going straight to fruiting.
The substrate in the bottom tub is very uneven- I would level that as best you can before it really starts colonizing.
It is just the liner. I suck at making liners
I like to take my (untrimmed) liner, and lay it over the top of my open tub. Then, I will put the lid on my tub, over the liner. That will hold the liner in place while you cut, and gives you a guide for cutting a perfectly sized liner every time.
When it's time to spawn, I mist the sides of my tub with rubbing alcohol before putting the liner in. That allows you to neatly "stick" the liner to the walls of your tub without tape.
Hope that helps!
Thanks, that's 90% of how i did it too. I guess i'm just not patient enough to trim it right.
Did you make that rack or is it a kit?
It's a kit from ikea, i just put the led strips
