fuzzywuzzybeer

I am in a 100 person competitive pool and not one person picked the giants to win. I thought about it for like 30 seconds and thought, wouldn’t it be nice if they pulled off an upset, but hell no would I bet on them. Will be nice to just consider them in the future!

xshogunx13

we have the #28 QB in the WORLD, never bet against us! ^^^^^^^^^/s

tubbymunchkin

This is the only correct conclusion

DizzyDjango

But not as good as Geno Smith. Y’all better watch out 👀😂

Thanks5Cinco

You mean to tell me there was a worse QB than Dak on Sunday?

Social_Engineer1031

Someone regress Dak to 2018 Dak using league averages or something

shiggydiggypreoteins

Idk how 21/30 for 213 yards, 1 TD 1 INT is 'worse' than 14/29 for 134 yards, 0 TD 1 INT but idk how the hell QBR works

IHateMods42069

QBR is a stat that ESPN made up themselves. It’s supposed to measure how clutch your QB was and score you based on how well you helped the team or some shit.

calste

Smashing your thumb is not clutch, 50 dkp minus

shiggydiggypreoteins

Wouldnt have happened if the LT had handled the damn whelps

HephaestusClangBang

MANY WELPS. HANDLE IT

LordPootington

LEFT SIDE, EVEN SIDE

InevitableBucket

FUUUUUUUUUUCCCKK!!!

khube

It's like one in a fucking million

TheRealBobaFett

And he did it twice!

youtman

Wait, WTF?

cervidaetech

QBR is a fucking joke

mrj9

Idk seems like crap mac jones had 7.1 yards per attempt a 70% completion rate had a passing td with two turnovers. Dak had lower than 50% completion rate 4.6 yards an attempt and a turnover Dak seems way worse. Not even sure how mac is bottom five

MckorkleJones

It's absolute bullshit, Burrow had 4 INTs/1 sack and wasn't the bottom?

dn0348

Two fumbles too

k2t-17

Rodgers was only 2 spots above him. You can't compare the 2 but they're not bottom 5 QBs.

joremero

But they acted like it

Mrpetey22

Let Geno BOIL

Geno’s and 2022 Seattle sports teams. Name a better duo

ClintBeastwood91

I can’t explain how much I love that Geno did so good last night. I’m a WVU fan so I’ve always wanted Geno to go off one day, I can’t believe it’s been 9 years since he entered the league.

Mrpetey22

Ya crazy. Dude was unreal at WVU, him Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey were unreal. And don’t forget Seahawk legend Bruce Irvin!

ClintBeastwood91

When Dana Holgerson left WVU he was selling his house. In the realtor photos, there was a staircase and on the walls were all NFL jerseys of former WVU players.

slayerrr21

He didn't write back!

1st quarter Geno: QBR 1,000,000

Let Geno BASTE

Don't forget Tyler Latte

bb12_22

Let Geno SAUTÉ

22Fusion

I saw the headline of “jones is 32nd” and assumed it was Daniel Jones. So when I saw him at 28th, I was really confused. Cause 28th isn’t 32nd lol. But then realized it’s the other Jones.

mbr4life1

Man finds a monkey paw in attic. Huge Giants fan. He asks the paw: Oh paw I don't ask for much, let Daniel Jones perform better in week one than Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, and Dak. *The monkey paw curls its thumb.*

yukonhoneybadger

NY radio needs to lead with that stat.

MisterBadIdea2

As far as I am concerned the monkey paw delivered exactly what I asked for and I am more than satisfied with the results

SlapHappyDude

Thanks, monkey paw!

tayryo

:(

Kr1sys

Didn't he throw 17/21 for 2 TDs a pick and a fumble? He had a 115.9 passer rating, how'd that translate into 5th worst? Burrow turned it over 5 times, like half the rating and still ended up ahead lol. Some algorithms are fucked.

offduty_braziliancop

He had a 115 Passer Rating yet is 28th/32nd in QBR. I understand his Rating is probably misleading as well but that discrepancy is ridiculous.

unevenvenue

Not that Jones, the *other* Jones!

gmil3548

I also assumed it was Danny Dimes lol

DM725

The metric is bullshit if Daniel Jones ended up 28th out of 32. He didn't light it up but had had a big play TD pass and I saw a stat that said all of his passes were accurate. The INT was a bad play but they won. Burrow had 5 turnovers ffs.

billcosbyinspace

Besides the INT he really didn’t do anything wrong, just a solid game manager day with really good efficiency and he ran well too. Penalizing him because saquon was unstoppable and we didn’t look to pass much seems silly

SunriseSurprise

"It doesn't matter because they were high-quality turnovers" - some geek somewhere

BabyYodaX

Same

miami2881

Danny Dimes > Mac Daddy

Eagle4317

Mac-10 should've been his nickname.

LiterallyMatt

It's Mac-9.7 now.

Griffisbored

That my flair on the pats sub

MSKOnlyScans

I think he has more physical gifts...I think he'd be more successful on the Patriots than the Giants, that's for sure.

lunar2solar

Daniel Jones is 5th overall if you sort by "rating" and not "QBR". It seems they penalized DJ for getting sacked 5 times, which was not even his fault. The offensive line collapsed multiple times.

ClawMachineDad

I did exactly this, as well 😂

Ok-Caregiver-6872

If you were to tell me Geno Smith was gonna have a higher QBR in week 1 then Aaron Rodgers I would have thought you were a complete idiot LOL

Blind-PieRat

Higher than Dak, Burrow and Stafford too .

ViralDownwardSpiral

...and Wilson.

Organization-North

This is the only one that matters.

vahntitrio

Not just higher, more than quadruple.

rumzkillz-

Don’t forget higher than Brady as well

Kaamelott

I don't know much about QBR but how on earth is Burrow that high with 4 interceptions or however many

JerryRiceDidntFumble

IIRC one of the nuances of QBR is that it places more weight on late game 1-score situations, so lots of yards/completions/a TD in the 4th quarter & OT helped erase some of the early struggles.

averyhipopotomus

Then how is wentz so low?!?

TheMSPaintKing

Because his last name starts with "W"

kac937

Because he needs to be lower than Ryan for this narrative i’m trying to push.

offduty_braziliancop

The ratings are based on which QB whoever does their eye-test portion likes the most.

HughJaynis

He’s right above lance who had a fucking horrible game. Wentz threw 4 tds and over 300 yards…

PM_ME_UR_DOPAMINE

Remember when this sub used to dunk on QBR but now suddenly it's gospel

fun_boat

Are we not still shitting on QBR? It's a black box algorithm made by ESPN to get clicks.

drewsoft

I stopped trusting it when it said Baker’s second year campaign was better than his first year.

Illustrious-Put6031

Because the Colts FO and owner choose the rankings.

Accomplished-Top-564

It has Trevor Lawrence higher than Wentz 💀

Cicero912

And Winston if it weighs up 4th quarter cause he had 200+ yards and 2 tds

fletchdog21

But I’m pretty sure Baker had a perfect QBR in the 4th quarter, so shouldn’t he be way higher

ConjugateBase

He had a perfect passer rating, not QBR

linkster29

This may be a dumb question, but what exactly is the difference between the two? Does QBR also include rushing, and that’s the difference? Is there more to it than that? I genuinely don’t know much about the advanced stats

ConjugateBase

Passer rating is a number that is meant to indicate how efficient a QB has been with just one number. You can find the formula on Google. It takes into account 5 objective statistics: - attempted passes - completed passes - total yards gained on completed passes - touchdowns - interceptions The number that comes out of the formula ranges from 0 to 158.3 (technically you could have a higher number, but that’s considered to be the maximum efficiency). If you compare passer ratings among QBs, it will generally pass the eye test, with the better QBs like Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Mahomes, etc. having some of the highest ratings around 100, while bad QBs usually hang around 70. However, the passer rating number alone is not enough to compare QB performances because it doesn’t take into account other statistics that some people claim are important in QB performance, such as: - rushing attempts - rushing yards - sacks taken - sack yards lost - performance according to the time of the game (1st quarter vs. last minute of the game) - supporting cast Some of these things are not entirely objective, but many people think taking them into account in some way can produce a better benchmark for good QB play. _________________________ QBR is an ESPN proprietary statistic, and the formula used to calculate it is unavailable to the public. QBR is supposed to take into account all the statistics used for passer rating, as well as other statistics like rushing and “clutchness.” It ranges only from 0 to 100.

ManInBlack829

Proprietary statistics may not actually be statistics. Gotta open-source the formula, or they could fake it

Atheist-Gods

QBR is a proprietary stat put out by ESPN that takes game situation into account. It’s mostly a modified EPA calculation.

JimmyChuckBilly

It also takes into account rushing. Burrow made some plays with his legs.

GizmoSoze

Four interceptions. That’s a recipe for disaster. Far as I can tell, teams are 102-803 when their QB throws four picks. The fact that Burrow is barely even in the bottom third despite FOUR interceptions shows you how worthless QBR is.

Eagle4317

Because he looked much better in the 2nd half.

ladouche6969

It was a metric created by ESPN so they could artificially rate Tim Tebow among elite QBs on his clutchness.

Temporarily__Alone

There are a lot of ESPN employee comments in here. The only thing you need to know about QBR is that it is a proprietary and opaque stat developed by ESPN. *We literally do not know what ingredients or their weight go into the final resulting number* QBR is a marketing stat that can be tweaked to generate article clicks. It’s brilliant for ad revenue, but useless for relevant football discussion.

HowieRosemanCPA

Which makes it all the weirder that QBR is so often hawked by stat guys and analytics twitter. Besides a vague explainer article, we don't know ESPN's methodology and have literally zero idea how much weight they're putting on the inputs. We know exactly how EPA is calculated + have a great idea of DVOA. And with PFF grades, although it's largely subjective at least PFF is a constant media mill that gives us input on how they grade.

TheNastyCasty

People have been able to more or less figure out QBR fwiw. It’s essentially [just EPA with a couple minor modifiers thrown on it.](https://www.fieldgulls.com/2016/10/11/13250486/qbr-not-a-russian-conspiracy-against-russell-wilson-but-actually-a) That’s an old article from Ben Baldwin, who works for the Athletic now and makes a lot of the analytics posts that end up on this subreddit.

HowieRosemanCPA

Besides the fact that QBR may have changed since 2016, the fact that it's essentially "EPA except when sometimes it's not EPA and we don't know why" is why it's a borderline useless statistic.

Away_Chair1588

I mean, we don't really know how PFF is grading most of their stuff and you can't tell me it's not subjective and inconsistent from grader to grader. Yet it's still referenced heavily here.

not-a-fridge

I mean he had a BRUTAL game, but still managed 2 TDs and 338 yards. That probably boosted it a bit lol.

[deleted]

He also ran the ball a few times which QBR always loves

jojow77

Then why is Wilson so low with over 300 yards

JesterSooner

Because yardage isn’t the only stat. And he’s ranked way higher than Burrow.

Galumpadump

Yardage is pretty useless without points scored. Seahawks always give up a ton on yards but make plays with a shrunken field.

rthanu

Extreme goalline fumble luck, plays. Potato potahto

SlayerXZero

QBR is stupid. Fucking ESPN doesn't tell how it is calculated so to me it is just nonsense.

poolman42162

Agreed sir

YourUndoing

QBR is a bullshit stat invented by ESPN

BuffaloBuffaloBufalo

Never_Less

This is honestly my favorite line of the movie. It's so absurd and then Dewey just says "I know right?" Kills me everyt tme.

Uce_Almighty111

I quote this movie a lot lol One of my favorite parts is when he is in rehab and he’s cold so they yell “he needs more blankets” and then he gets hot so they yell “he needs less blankets” and then later he says “I’m cold and hot” so the nurse tells the doctor “he needs more blankets AND less blankets” and the doctor grimly nods in agreement like “I’m afraid you’re right” lmao I have been saying that I need less blankets quite a bit this summer haha

PartisanHack

You know who has hands? The Devil, and he uses 'em for holdin'.

Makavelion7

Dewey Cox, do you ever stop to smell the roses?

Daily_the_Project21

Broncos hired the wrong coach.

stranske

Didn't Carroll tell us they've got two Number 1 options in the QB room?

CubbieCubCubCub

Tune in next week for Seattle's Double QB package!

OttoVonBiscuit

Hey at least we didn't trade for Rodgers

hanky2

QBR and PFF can agree on one thing. Geno is a beast.

Awkward_Salad7293

This but unironically, instead of that price tag give me Matt Ryan or Jimmy G instead.

MajorFuzzelz_24

Damn. That was a NICE game by Geno.

gab_owns0

Someone please launch Matt Patricia out of a cannon towards the sun.

patricktollinator

He will just bounce back like he did in Detroit

Filippo_G

We're gonna need a bigger cannon.

Kewlerd

After we play you week 5 you can do that

NO_TOUCHING__lol

How bout if we let McManus kick him 64 yards towards the sun?

90swasbest

Close enough will do it when it comes to kicking things at the sun. A few feet to the right won't matter much.

JesterSooner

Mayfield better QB than Rodgers, Carr and Stafford confirmed!

Sarydus

Apparently Danny Dimes is a better QB than Aaron Rodgers. The Daniel Jones MVP campaign starts now!

HarvardBrowns

Worse than brisket, WE UPGRADED BABY

Guitaristb72

Wentz > Dak

ForOrganizationOnly

*sigh* *upvotes*

[deleted]

Wentz did finish 9th in QBR last season 🤷‍♂️ Top 10 QB according to ESPN

kraftacular

It's happening again!

Sisyphuslivinlife

I mean, we do have a backup who can play in the post season.

BilllisCool

Only 2017-2019 kids remember.

whitea44

All I see is a bunch of teams who might be ready for a Jimmy G transformation. Especially those Packers. Seems like a nobody at QB.

seahawkbatman

Geno Smith at 6 is my favorite. Completely unbiased

randommaniac12

Nope you’re 100% right

Maj0r_Ursa

Tua just slightly worse than Herbert, just like we all predicted

MrAliK

How tf is Wentz at 20??

miami2881

He was punished for going the whole game without getting injured. That just goes against everything Wentz stands for.

rook24v

Stand? He can still stand!? That's definitely not injured enough

[deleted]

Not sure the metric is right when Mariota lost one fumble and fumbled a snap on 3rd and one that cost his team the game and is still above Brady and Winston. I understand he had a decent game, but those were two critical errors that far outweighs the minor gains he made.

primocheese1947

And ESPN was supposed to grade on a sliding scale based on clutchness which would have dinged Marcus even more since it was late in the game.

verniy314

Maybe because Mariota looked good for 3 quarters and Winston only looked good for 1? Both looked better than Brady IMO.

[deleted]

Yeah Brady had a bad game by his standards. Lenny carried that offense

spazzmunky

Solidly in the middle. Oh yeah.

jerwindames

Top 3 QBs all named Patrick

Andy-Is-Hot

Patkirk Cousins

TheTimeWeWaste

But only one of them was the Sheldon high school fishing club president

goldfish_11

Mac Jones was 85th now he’s 32nd. Moving up in the world. Love to see it.

EverySir

QBR is such a pointless system. I’m not sure why ESPN keeps pushing it after all of these years. No transparency whatsoever.

THE_GREAT_PICKLE

It really is. Like really how is Mac 32nd? He didn’t have a good game but his stat lines aren’t that bad. He had an excellent completion percentage too.

MckorkleJones

This list just confirms what a joke QBR is, Burrow had an objectively worse game.

H-Money37

Geno Smith…nice

gremlin30

If Lamar had 4 ints with the stacked WR room burrow has y’all would be talking about it way more

spittingecko

TOP 5 WOOOO

iDestr0ya

Tua at #5, Mac Jones at #32, but if you tuned into that Fins-Pats broadcast, the color analyst would have you convinced Tua was not only the worse QB between the two, he was the worst QB of all time.

Pksoze

Daniel Jones ranked over Stafford and Rodgers.

JoshHero

Pats should trade for Jimmy G.

Saki1122

Daniel Jones had a good game, can’t believe he’s that low. And no way Mac is worse than Dak. Dak was pretty much unwatchable

timy0215

Don’t know how *(edit: Daniel)* Jones is below Burrow. - Both had 2 TDs and 1 fumble lost (Burrow had a 2nd fumble but recovered it) - Burrow had 4 Ints to Jones’s 1 - Burrow took 7 sacks to Jones’s 5 - Burrow had a completion % of 62.3% to Jones’s 81% - Both had a clutch TD in the final 2 minutes. Jones also completed a 2 point conversion to give his team the lead. - Burrows only big statistical advantage was in passing yards, 338 to 188, but he needed well over twice as many attempts to do it (53 to 21) - Jones got the win. Burrow lost. Things like this really make it appear like this is just a number they pull out of their asses to make whatever narrative they want.

[deleted]

He had an average to above average game. I don’t really get the massive difference between Geno and him though. 21 spots for a pretty similar stat line is a bit absurd

MetsFan256

Isn't "50" in QBR average though? By this metric he had a horrid game

[deleted]

Yeah by this metric. It’s difficult to make an accurate assessment of it when the formula isn’t published

Meepnax

Yeah I would agree Geno is almost a top 5 QB

BobBarkerzRaw

Is MariGoAta better than Brady!?

cowsgobarkbark

Put mike white in jets

[deleted]

Oh look At that Tua haters: We drafted a TOP 5 QUARTERBACK

zaor666

This makes a lot more sense than those PFF grades

Marijuana_Miler

I do like PFF’s use of turnover worthy plays. Otherwise it seems too hot takey.

AskAboutMyDiarrhea

So would you say turnover worthy plays are worse than actual turnovers? Allen had 2 picks, 1 was on the WR. Pat had 0. Shouldn't they be a lot closer in rankings?

Zinkane15

When rating *performance* then I'd say being the cause of a turnover is definitely worse than just turning the ball over. There's no stat for a receiver turning a pass into an interception and the closest one, drops, is only really looked at if you're really bad. It's definitely important to know if a QB is throwing interceptions due to poor accuracy or timing or just because his receivers can't hold onto a ball.

topatoman_lite

For trying to analyze an skill? Turnover worthy plays are easily more important

Xaxziminrax

My only gripe with them is that, since they only grade the throw, a lot of times a QB has been penalized for correctly identifying an offsides/holding, and throwing up a YOLO ball on a free play. I remember a few regrades where they've cited that as a reason shit changed.

incompleteremix

Kirk Cousins and Geno Smith > Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady Clearly the only ranking that matters

IgnoranceIZBliss_

I mean, both of them were last week.

xThe-Legend-Killerx

PFF in shambles

Guilty-Presence-1048

Not a fan of QBR, but Mac Jones... Woof.

Zerak-Tul

70% completion rate and 1 int 1 td, 213 yards doesn't really deserve such an abysmal score though. Is that a pedestrian statline? Yeah, but if you look at the QBR it looks like his play was abysmal.

DiseaseRidden

Yeah I don't really get how he could possibly be that low. That's like, a completely fine if underwhelming line, not a "worst QB in the league by a mile" line

arc1261

Daniel Jones went 17/21 for 81% on 20 throws - sure he only went for 188 yards but he had 2TD/1INT. He also had a 45% pressure rate - for comparison the SB where the chiefs had “one of the worst oline performances ever and Mahomes had no chance” was only a bit higher at 50. Don’t really get how that’s worth a 25 QBR

knowslesthanjonsnow

Qbr stinks, go passer rating.

OblivionNA

I don’t know much about QBR but I see Tua at #5 and I’m totally on board with whatever is going on.

TheZasman

QBR is garbage, no way Flacco should be that high

MyNameIsAMeme

DJ wasn’t even that bad during the Titans game tho

gregorcee

These are a load of shit too, trey lance 21st but Jones 28th?

dank-nuggetz

Yeah QBR is a garbage stat and I’m honestly laughing my ass off at anyone saying this list looks legit lol

lucompopp

If you predicted Geno would be top 10 you are a lier

miami2881

Any prediction involving that game was wrong

lucompopp

Facts! What a great game to watch

phudgeoff

How is Trey Lance a rank above Justin Fields....?
