Also I would love to see the winner of this match as momentum for more TV time.
I think some fun stuff can with Queen EMi and her Court as midcard heel to eat pins for the Top faces and for filler feuds (similar to what Bunny did over the summer)
I really love Queen Emi. Totally unfamiliar with her before coming to AEW but she is my favorite part of the YouTube shows.
I'm shocked Ryo is still stateside I thought she left recently
She has to be in Japan on the 29th, so they are getting as much as they can out of her it seems.
Yep makes sense
I’m shocked they don’t use her more!
TBF they've used her basically everyweek
Oh yeah. I meant on TV.
TV Sucks. Dark is full of Joshi.
I’m so behind on my Dark viewing. This gives me a reason to get back in
You can describe most of AEW’s women’s roster with that phrase.
Ryo is the protag and Emi is the final boss
We’re getting Mei in the ring too! Mei and Emi vs. Ryo and >!Riho!<.
This is not a drill .... FULL GOBLIN ALERT !!!
OH SHIIIIT! AEW is not ready, the 🍎 is about to be unleashed!
How you like them Apples?
Shit, if that's given time it could be one of the best women matches in AEW. Shame it won't be watched by many. If they go 100% on this one could be one of the best matches in Dark's history.
I feel like Killer Queens is going to get moved into a TV program once this TBS tournament is done.
I hope so. It feels like Mei has been in the US a while but its only been like a month. Getting Mei on TV would be money.
I think they are more likely to do something with Nyla and Emi as a tag team then a singles push for just Emi.
I heard people say she's on a Travelling visa or something so like Lulu they can't work in the ring only be valets. If that's true, it's a shame especially in the case of Mei. She would easily probably be a level down from Shida, Deeb, Riho, Emi, Ryo and Thunder. She's really great for her experience level (like a lot of Joshi's). Would be a bonus for AEW women's division.
MASSIVE SPOILER >!Ryo/Riho vs Emi/Mei for one of the tapings. So Mei must have got her Working visa issue sorted out.!<
Whatever the issue was it seems like its been solved by before these tapings
Whatever the issue was it seems like its been solved by before these tapings luckily.
And this isn't on Dynamite or Rampage why?
Probably because the 3v3/4v4s they've been doing with each of them on opposing teams haven't been.
makes sense, but I'd really prefer we get to see some of these women on TV for a change.
especially two of the best AEW has.
Gotta make room for another Orange Cassidy or Inner Circle match I guess?
Like I like them both, but mix it up, give the women more time on the card. This isn't 2005 anymore, they can all wrestle, they don't need to be relegated to the C/D Shows.
Blame TNT, not TK at least. Hopefully it changes for TBS
So you're telling me the Network mandates they only feature one women's match on each show? You know how dumb that sounds?
[Here](https://twitter.com/kennyomegamanx/status/1361396302941204480?s=21) is Kenny specifically referring to the fact that the amount of TV the women’s division gets is predicated by the network.
One of the keys to the partnership among AEW and WarnerMedia has been that Tony Khan has been very open to adapting to network suggestions and notes. In the early days of Dynamite, there were a lot more video packages and TNT pointed out that viewership declined when the packages ran. So, TK 86’d the video packages for live interview segments.
Same goes for the matches that are in P-I-P. It’s not up to AEW’s production for what matches get the mid-break cut from PIP. That’s on TNT.
There are far more women’s matches on Dark and Elevation because that’s the programming that AEW has total control over.
This rumour was quashed a while ago. It's been Tony's decision the whole way through ([Source] (https://whatculture.com/wwe/rumour-killer-on-tnt-limiting-aew-to-1-womens-match-per-show)). If people have problems with the division it should be directed at him.
> Warner is more focused on content that gets strong social media engagement and pulls in good ratings above all else.
Which goes right back to what Kenny was saying. If the women’s matches don’t move dials in ways that satisfies the network, they’re gonna encourage AEW to lean into the stuff that does better.
Unfortunately for them, and the rest of the division, it looks like Brandi is back to eat up what time isn't devoted to Baker.
Had to hold that racism on for as long as the entire year.
Live to see how triggered Brandi on Dark triggers you lot
Tony seemingly just doesn’t care about women’s wrestling unfortunately.
The sheer lack of effort into the women’s division despite clear audience interest is mind boggling. I doubt anything changes without AEW getting with a #GiveDivasAChance style public backlash.
> Tony seemingly just doesn’t care about women’s wrestling unfortunately.
These takes just get worse and worse as the division improves.
> These takes just get worse and worse as the division improves.
So why can't the women get more than one match on Dynamite? And don't give me the "I'd rather it be one 10 minute match than 2 5 minute matches!". The tournament gives us a Women's feud, so that they don't have to do anything with Britt.
Why is it the Women get 2 matches a week on TV and then are relegated to Dark/Elevation?
There's no such thing as being "relegated" to Dark or Elevation, as if neither of those shows matter. They aren't WWE Main Event/Superstars.
Also, I'd rather have ONE quality 10 minute Women's match over multiple 5 minute subpar Women's matches like RAW does just to fill the quota, that's harmful to the division
Again, Dark/Elevation is exactly that. It's not a bad thing, but having your entire division relegated to it, isn't a good look.
This is a bad argument, the women need more tv time, if it's just 5 minute matches, fine, whatever gets more of the division on tv. They get stong reactions week in, week out and yet, they're barely on tv.
The division is improving because of the talent improving. Nothings really changed in the last few months besides the women going above and beyond to get noticed.
Even with the TBS Championship Tournament we still get a grand total of one women’s match each Dynamite. Maybe one women’s vignette or promo with those segments still almost always built around Baker. We’re still playing the same games.
We can make excuses all we want but look how much effort has gone into the men’s division from top to bottom, then look at the women’s. It’s night and day. Even an act like Cody who is failing with the audience gets light years more effort put into him than someone universally over lile Thunder Rosa
When Tony starts giving women more TV time I’ll be the first to give credit. Until then I’m not going to be praising the dude or the company for women getting over in spite of the booking.
> The division is improving because of the talent improving. Nothings really changed in the last few months besides the women going above and beyond to get noticed.
As the talent in the division has improved, they've gotten more TV time.
> Even with the TBS Championship Tournament we still get a grand total of one women’s match each Dynamite.
I'd rather have one match that gets plenty of time than 2 that don't.
> Even an act like Cody who is failing with the audience
Cody isn't failing with the audience.
> As the talent in the division has improved, they've gotten more TV time
We still hey one match and usually one vignette a week like I said. It’s not exactly a correlation with how over/talented the roster is when the screen time has stayed exactly the same.
> I'd rather have one match that gets plenty of time than 2 that don't.
Easily could’ve cut the awful and long OC/Cole segment, along with the utterly pointless Wardlow squash, and had more than enough time for a solid women’s match.
It’s not like there isn’t time, it’s just the women aren’t given any.
> Cody isn't failing with the audience.
Cody is meant to be a face, maybe it you’re being really generous you can say he’s meant to get Cena style 50/50 election, but gets firmly boo’d out of most buildings.
More over this past Dynamite was one of the lowest drawing in the last 7 months. Cody’s segment was the second highest viewed, but when you consider the amount of TV time and big moments he’s been getting, along with the level of talent he’s worked with, it’s clear the current character is dead on arrival.
That’s a ton of effort that could be going into the women’s or even tag divisions. Instead it’s being focused on something that simply isn’t working.
You've seriously got the worst opinions when it comes to AEW's Women's division, just flat out 1 bad take after another. You should probably stop commentating on things you're not actually watching.
Cody's also the biggest star and draws in the promotion as him drawing good ratings every time he's on TV, so he's not really failing.
Tony is giving the women time,1 quality 10 to 12 minute women's match on Dynamite is better than 2 average women's matches just to fill a quota and make the grifters and stopwatchers happy.
> You should probably stop commentating on things you're not actually watching.
I’m actually an actually a pretty avid fan. I’m just aware that things I like also have flaws.
Also the fact you called people who want more than one women’s match “grifters” is sketchy as hell. Not a great look
TBS tourney says "we'll still be having one women's match per televised show per week despite this being the perfect excuse to have multiple women's matches per show"
It’s been solid but we’re still getting one match a week on Dynamite. We get a second on Rampage luckily but that’s quickly become a B-Show where nothing of importance happens *(though I do still enjoy it near every week)*
The TBS tournament is essentially just the standard non-Brit feud we usually have. AEW has been in a cycle for a while now where their is one program for Brit and one program for everyone else. That hasn’t changed even if the other program is now for a belt.
> The TBS tournament is essentially just the standard non-Brit feud we usually have. AEW has been in a cycle for a while now where their is one program for Brit and one program for everyone else. That hasn’t changed even if the other program is now for a belt.
Shida vs. Deeb?
Lasted all of two weeks and was still mostly based around the TBS tournament since it just set up a reason for Shida to lose early.
If male talent got the reactions Shida and Deeb were getting while putting on that high quality of matches they wouldn’t suddenly have vanished from TV again. Anyone saying otherwise is fooling themselves.
Almost all of the big players in the men’s roster have been featured weekly for months. It’s only with the women’s division these days that “not everyone is used every week” is still a factor.
Even OC is featured more on TV than Shida, Deeb, Rosa, etc and that character hasnt been involved in anything good for months nor getting the same level of reactions that Shida and Rosa do.
Hikaru has gone back to Japan, so the Shida-Serena feud has been put on hold.
That would happen with the men's talent as well, and it has happened. It's also NOT a bad thing to wrestle on Dark and or Elevation... They aren't WWE Main Event, they matter.
Orange Cassidy is still one of their biggest stars and he still gets a bigger reaction than Shida & Rosa without even trying. Again, you really are the King of Bad AEW Women's division takes.
It's almost 2022 and people are STILL pretending that AEW and Tony Khan himself doesn't care about women's wrestling... As if they haven't been watching the product for the last 6 months.
Why would it?
Because the women's division is never on tv? Unless it revolves around Britt Baker or the TBS title
As someone who is in the “dark” why is this big?
They’ve been dancing around facing each other on Dark for about a month now, consistently “captaining” 3v3 and 4v4 tag teams against one another. Now they’re finally going 1 on 1
Because Emi & Ryo are two of the best workers the division has.
Also, Emi & Ryo are former AEW women's title PPV challengers and Ryo won the last women's tournament.
I really can’t get into cosplaying as Freddie Mercury cosplaying as Okada.
You are being down voted but I hope this explains a little:
Not even Emi's fans truly got the Freddy Mercury gimmick other than AEW told her she could be whatever she wanted and that's what made her happy.
Part of it was that she was a huge Queen fan and that was her one major touchstone to the west outside of the occasional TV show like Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I think she thought it would help her connect with the fans but instead it utterly isolated her from everyone and no one could see past the fake moustache.
When she went back to Japan, Emi spent the next 2 years building a western fanbase and learning how to work with a western audience because we don't pop to the same things which means there is a cultural as well as a language barrier.
Now she is back in the US. She can speak English and she knows how to work an western crowd, so now we get Joshi Legend Emi Sakura and not confused and out of her element Emi Sakura.
Two legendary joshis, nothing really more than that
Its also two wrestlers with good records that have had title matches on PPV. Its a big deal for Dark based on that alone.
This is gunna be LIT!
Cue the obligatory this match should of be on Dynamite/Rampage
I love the irony of AEW fans complaining about fans who want good wrestling on a bigger stage
And the tangentially related fans who think that people like Deeb, Shida, Riho, and the like should be thankful to sit in catering and watch Britt Baker segments when they aren't filming matches for YouTube.
You acting like the YouTube shows don't matter, shows how little YOU care about AEW's Women's division.
I watch the YouTube shows. I frequently enjoy them. But let's not pretend that they aren't 95% matches against jobbers, and as such they don't really compare with time on Dynamite or Rampage.
People already beat you to it.
Rofl on aew dark. This should be on dynamite or a ppv. But hey we will get to see bunny or penelope or cheerleader on dynamite or cody set himself on fire. I like aew wat more then any other wrestling company but their womens booking is just baffling.
It's actually pretty simple. Tony Khan absolutely doesn't give a shit about women's wrestling. He likes Britt. He seems to like Jade. And then there are 20-something other women who work for him, that he might on any given day remember exist...for a week or two.
Yay, pretending Tony Khan doesn't clear evidence that he does. As if people don't actually watch his product.
I know right.
Cody should just bury a bunch of people and become World Champion just like HHH.
Fuck the open challenge or making Malakai look legit after Triple H and Vince fired him.
