Put Brock as the only Gladiator.
I'm picturing the one old event where you had to swing on the rings, and then you look back and there's Lesnar just swinging like Tarzan after you.
Malibu making his triumphant return surely
What will James think u/AKittyCat
Christianity is the killer of muscles!
Keep calm & call Batman!
SHOULDA STAYED ON THE BEACH MALIBU

Life happens but here is where he is now
(I was doing a bit from a Funhaus video)
Always loved the Original American Gladiators.
I know they restarted back sometime in the 2000s, with Hulk Hogan as the host and Gina Carano as one of the gladiators, but neither of them are going to be on the new one for obvious reasons.
The 2008 Reboot was fun, but man... did they have to spend so much time talking to the contestant? They would literally cut entire events to show more of contestant's back story, and then just recap with "Oh, this person scored 10 points in The Joust earlier today" or some BS.
Lol that's all reality competition shows anymore. Here's 5 minutes of sob story sandwiching 60 seconds of action.
I used to enjoy watching ANW and stopped for this very reason. My wife commented about the amount of backstory they show and skip passed people who aren't 'TV-personality' types of people. I figure they do it to get more people invested in re-occurring characters but I only cared to see the competition.
The 2008 reboot was honestly, fucking terrible. I fucking LOVED the OG American Gladiators the events felt so interesting, the aesthetic was perfect (after the first season) where it was very much like a legit sport feel.
The newer version felt too campy to me the events didnt feel the same for whatever reason.
The best way I can describe it is like, the reboot felt like the TV show "Wipeout" and the original felt more like "American Ninja Warrior". Wipeout and ANW are "similar" shows (they feature contestants on obstacle courses) but Wipeout is very much not serious, the entire fun of the show is watching the contestants get absolutely destroyed by the wacky obstacles etc whereas ANW is more serious, it takes its athletes serious, it takes the actual course itself serious and takes considerable skill. So even though the shows are kinda about similar things, one is more appealing to me because I enjoy competition.
Sorry rant over, I just was so disappointed by the reboot, I hope the re-reboot goes more the OG route than the reboot route.
Gina Carano. Had a high-profile spot in The Mandalorian and a lead role ready to go in Rangers of the New Republic. Then she had to compare wearing masks to Holocaust survivors.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. LOL.
Had to do something in between spiking the camera
Yup, I had the biggest Crush on Gina after that that. It ended shortly after she started going off about wearing masks. Shame.
They did a reboot in the UK around that time too and nick aldis was one of the gladiators here
matt morgan who was in TNA during that time was also on the show
First RTD comes back to Doctor Who and now this?! Today is wild
WAIT RTD IS BACK ON WHO?!?
Taking over in 2023
Holy wait what???!!?
THIS is why they were named Mace and T-Bar. Long term booking.
Sounds like a WWE scouting event
Shayna, Raquel, Big E, Brock, and Chad are perfect for this.
Haven’t they tried this a time or three already?
I don’t think wwe will use any top stars for this show.
I had SO MANY VHS tapes of original American Gladiators episodes that I would watch over and over as a child.
This is incredibly exciting news for me.
Pluto TV has an all American Gladiators channel so if this sucks we still have the great original run
I wonder how many they end up signing.
So are they going to use WWE Superstars or the muscle heads from the PC using their NXT gimmicks.
Probably too big of an injury risk
The thing is that there were a lot of Gladiators over the years that had the personalities that would have fit great in WWE.
And now I am reminding myself of the Battle Dome/WCW crossover where we had stuff like Terry Crews as "T-Money" going up against Rick Steiner
Didn't this flop hard the last time they tried?
I think the first season of the reboot with Hogan hosting and Gina Carano as a gladiator was successful since the show got renewed.
2nd season not so much.
So that's where they will be getting their "non indie" talent.
This would be a great opportunity to use the new Sports background NXT candidates to use those skills and pick up a bit of theatrics and psychology.
90% sure this will be more American Ninja Warrior like
New Day host and do commentary. Big Meaty Humans Slapping Meat
If they present this as a straight-up athletic competition (as they did in the original version) and not as some pseudo reality show with gimmicky camera work and time warp editing (the 2008 reboot turned me off immediately) I will give this a watch.
Given that Kevin Dunn will likely have his hands in this, I don’t expect to be watching.
I remember a few years ago, a little while after the 2008 revival had gone cold (so, 2014-15-ish) and they said that instead of the colorful costume and camp demeanor, they were going to go serious and do something more Hunger-Games inspired. Somehow I sense that's what it's gonna end up being.
Not gonna lie… Hunger Games but with paintball guns would be pretty awesome (as long as Kevin Dunn was far, far away).
I think it was more aesthetics than format (basically a regular AG show in tactical gear instead of colorful tights,) but it does sound pretty fun.
Vince must have just discovered what American Gladiators is, despite having a former Gladiator on his roster 20 years ago.
Had a former contestant around the same time, too. Rico Constantino (the manager of 3 Minute Warning and Billy & Chuck) was a contestant on the show during its original run in the 90s.
I was referring to Rico, for some reason I thought he was a cast member with stage name and everything, not just a competitor.
Just bring back Two Scoops and I'll watch.
Lol Yeah, he was just a competitor, not a Gladiator. One of the better-performing competitors too according to his Wikipedia page.
He was a beast... had a rivalry with Gemini in Joust that was great.
American Gladiators came on right before WWF Superstars on the local station here so that was appointment viewing for me from 10-noon on Saturday mornings.
> American Gladiators came on right before WWF Superstars on the local station here so that was appointment viewing for me from 10-noon on Saturday mornings.
Same here except Superstars was first. Noon to 2p every Saturday I'd watch both religiously.
Dude, I didnt have cable growing up and my Grandpa taped some episodes of American Gladiators for me. Two-Scoops was on that episode and I remember him so vividly, dude was an unreal fucking athlete, super charismatic. What a goddamn legend.
Mason Ryan was a gladiator too. The euro version
Nick Aldis was a gladiator on the UK show as well.
Matt Morgan was a gladiator in the 2008 US reboot along with Justice Smith (Tough Enough Season 4)
>Nick Aldis was a gladiator on the UK show as well.
The funny thing is NXT 2.0 reminded me of American gladiators.
Man... is it bad that I recognize that GIF as being from International Gladiators 2?
This is honestly a really good idea. Extends the brand, gets name recognition on a lot of superstars who certainly won't be main eventers at the start (at least most of them won't be), creates content presumably for NBC / Peacock (where I believe it used to air, NBC-owned channels that is.)
The OG American Gladiators was Syndicated. I don’t remember if it was during their first run or later episodes but it was on USA before Comcast bought the channel.
could also be on prime video since amazon will own mgm some time soon
Didn't it just recently get rebooted? I feel like I remember that being a thing that happened already.
2008 during a writers strike with Hogan as the host
Recently as in like 13 years ago.
2008 was 13 years ago…. Jeeez
I remember seeing Rico Constantino compete on the American Gladiators show on Saturday Mornings back in the 90's
Ricochet's probably too small. I'm sensing it's going to be the Ridge Holland/Bron Breakker hoss-looking guys that are gonna be doing this.
At this point, WWE could launch their own video game division and it wouldn't surprise me.
It's the kind of thing that was made for Vince McMahon; I'm surprised he never tried to do this sooner.
