millas9

Have people forgot he is Rey Mysterio Jr. He took the gimmick on from his uncle, it is the lucha way to pass on masks

VinceMcVahon

So how does that work, would be be jr jr?

DarthHelpful

Villanos got up to at least 5. He could be Mysterio III? But not like WWE acknowledges that Rey is a Jr.

mr_impastabowl

I just realized that Dom has probably been thinking about how to be Mysterio III or something since he was a kid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mr_impastabowl

I had no idea but the etymology makes perfect sense!

j4ngl35

This is a dope idea

virusMEL

Hey he's the guy you play as in 2k20 then

Glum-Communication68

Treys Mysterio

Merc_Mike

Or Eddie Guerrero Jr IJS!

ericrs22

I wouldn't mind this tbh. Dom coming out with Rey's Mask and lowriders playing to "I Lie, I cheat, I steal" to carry both mantles.

officerliger

Vince will probably shorten it to 3

simian_ninja

HAHAHA! Yes, he definetly would.

SovietShooter

Villanos were all brothers, sons of Ray Mendoza, and were numbered in order of their debut (which is why V5 is older than V4 - he went to school and became a dentist first). There are currently two sons of V3 working - One is V3 Jr., the other is El Hijo de V3. V3 Jr. Is the really promising one that has shown up w/ AAA, and had [this badass mask vs mask match](https://youtu.be/OWdmGqdZoUA) last year.

BuddaMuta

Absolutely love everything about your run down. Thank you

cheeseburgertwd

Rey Mysthreerio

ningbody

He could Son of (Rey) Mysterio, Mysterio III, or the WWE way of just Rey Mysterio

FinkBass420

In tradition Lucha libre he would probably go as El Hijo De Rey Mysterio Jr. which is quite the mouthful

digittydog_socko

El Hijo del Sobrino de Rey Misterio

MC_Lutefisk

We're one stylistic choice away from him being El Hijo del Hijo de Rey Misterio

SugarRAM

Except it would actually be El Hijo del Sobrino de Rey Misterio, since the Rey we know is the original Rey's nephew, not son.

MC_Lutefisk

Fair enough. I was thinking "if Rey had initially chosen to be El Hijo instead of Jr." but I'm not *actually* intimately familiar with Lucha naming traditions. Or the Spanish language, to be honest lol Edit: this would also have conflicted with the actual son of Rey Misterio, who wrestles as El Hijo de Rey Misterio

PsSalin

>El Hijo instead of Jr. But he's not the son of Rey Mysterio Sr.

MC_Lutefisk

Yeah, I didn't realize you had to be the son to take that title. I assumed it was just another way to say "Junior" since like, for example, Chavo Guerrero Jr. and El Hijo del Santo are the sons of Chavo and El Santo (respectively) despite using different naming conventions

PsSalin

Also might have to do with the fact that Chavo Jr and Sr share the same real name, whereas El Santo and his son do not.

Vinsmoker

Not quite. There already is a "El Hijo de Rey Misterio" (Rey Mysterio's cousin) Dominic would just be "El Hijo de Rey Mysterio" with the "y" being the difference maker.

MC_Lutefisk

Yeah I probably should've guessed that lol. Just imagine that ring introduction: "From San Diego California, El Hijo de Rey Mysterio, but Mysterio is spelled with a Y!"

mikeputerbaugh

Tammy Lynn Bysterio

XAMdG

In that case (not technically this since Rey inherited his mask from his uncle) you would just use Nieto (grandson).

SideEyeFeminism

And yet, surprisingly, not the longest Latin name I’ve encountered lol

Mud-Bray

Not as much of a mouthful as El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.

GaryBettmanSucks

Probably just El Hijo De Mysterio

kr0n1k

El Hijo de Eddie Guerrero

hopkraken

THATS DOUBLE J, DOUBLE U, DOUBLE N, DOUBLE I, DOUBLE O, DOUBLE R *smashes mariachi guitar over Rey's head* Jeff Jarrett comes out an manages little slapnuts.

DragonsEatGold

Rey Mysterio III? Personally I hope he adds a monocle to the mask and refers to himself with a posh accent.

Estimator1313

Ah yes, I say to you good sir, Booyaka Booyaka 619.

thegeek01

MFW they call "Twirly Whirly Facey Hurty" the 619

Or prince Mysterio

Zloggt

I'd even go with Mysterito too

MarcusMariachi

the -ito is usually reserved for the "mini" (little people) versions. Octogoncito for example

klausprime

El Hijo del Rey Mysterio Jr

100sages

He could be El Hijo del Rey Misterio Jr or, more likely Prince Mysterio. I think they mentioned that name

slowmo152

About a year and half ago there was a trademark filled for Prince Mysterio if I remember it was by the Mysterio's. It makes sense Rey is signify for king so his son would be Prince.

jatorres

Maybe officially be Rey Misterio III but just go by Rey Mysterio, since that’s the trademarked name.

XAMdG

Could be any variety of ways. Rey Mysterio III for example (tho I guess that would cause confusion to WWE's audience). El Hijo de Rey Mysterio Jr. could also work, but there's already a El Hijo de Rey Mysterio so I don't think that's an option either. WWE would probably go the comics route and just say Dominick is Rey Mysterio now.

SoCalWhatever

Rey Jr. passing on his mask to his son so he can become El Hijo del Rey Mysterio Jr. would be awesome. Sadly I don't see WWE ever letting Dominick use that name, though, because they're super anal about shortening names whenever possible.

ShaneRunninShirtless

No. He was Rey Misterio Jr. Now he's Rey Mysterio, so Dom would be Rey Mysterio jr. He changed his name so he could get his mask back afaik.

noPorntobeFoundhere

I always thought that he found a loophole by being given the original Rey Misterio's mask instead of just continuing his lineage?

fusaaa

In an interview with Chris van Vliet I believe, Rey said he kinda just put the mask back on when he went to WWE because they wanted him to even after he explained the tradition. The Lucha commission or whatever didn't want him wearing the mask during his first show in Mexico with WWE since he had previously lost it but they eventually caved and just let it go.

Subrick

El Hijo del Rey Misterio Jr.

StoneBreakers-RB

He was Rey Misterio Jnr, but he then became Rey Mysterio. Original Rey Misterio was never Musterio, if that makes sense. I think it would be rad to avoid the naming convention conundrum, and just call him Hijo del Mysterio or something like that.

Thirdstar1

A father son feud would literally only be good if your not planning for the future. Dom would not be good on his own on the Main Roster right now. After that feud he would sink.

iamaneviltaco

WWE breaking up a group, making them feud, then cutting them because they don't work solo. Name a more iiconic duo.

SmokePenisEveryday

WWE and teaming up rivals into a tag team that win the championships

Well tbf they also booked an actually story with them. They didn't get a long at first and couldn't succeed but they eventually became friends and found success

Cracka_Chooch

It also worked with Team Hell No! Not just fun in the ring, but they were comedy gold.

Dicky__Anders

Kane is the master of odd couple tag teams, especially with smaller lads.

bluejegus

>Name a more iiconic duo. You already did it for us.

HygorBohmHubner

Yup. "*Oh, Peyton Royce is the superior of the two. Let's split up the team and push her to the moon--oh, we're putting her in a random-ass tag-team with Lacey Evans? Mmm'kay.*"

[deleted]

She wasn't even superior, she drowned without Billie and Billie was doing well.

HygorBohmHubner

I meant, the company viewed Peyton was the superior of the team, and intended to push her after the team split, but they either cancelled the plans or had cold feet, and returned her to the same spot she was, albeit with Evans as a partner.

ChanceVance

> I meant, the company viewed Peyton was the superior of the team, and intended to push her after the team split Did they? I remember hearing those rumours but then again there were also "Vince has given up on Shayna Baszler" reports going around that same time and within like a month she was tag team champs with Nia Jax and always on TV.

Somebodys

The iironic part is Billie Kay was killing all the garbage the gave her after the split.

Yaminoari

WWE and there ridiculous booking for Roman Reigns throughout the years

penope12

IIIICONICS

zeitgeistbouncer

They actually split up the team of 'Name A More Iconic Duo'.

william_wites

I think it could work though. As a retirement feud for Rey and a final test for his son type of way

PTHDC

The only father-son "feud" that would work *eventually* is what Rey describes here. Both still face, both still aligned, just a father wanting to pass on his legacy and demanding his son give him the best he got so he can retire, knowing the mask is in good hands. But as I said, eventually, not now.

V-TriggerMachine

*But Daaaad, my head is too big for this mask!*

BaconHamAndCheese12

well yeah, that'd be awesome, real, heartfelt and immediately help Dom, so no way WWE does it.

Tronvillain

**Vince:** *"GIVE THE MASK TO ROMAN."* **Rey:** *"What? N-No... this is meant to be like a father-son thi-"* **Vince:** *"GIVE IT TO ROMAN, DAMNIT. HE'S REY MYSTERIO NOW."*

koolaidburgers

Dominick Mysterio will never be pushed after Rey’s retirement unless he turns heel or changes his character He’s just not that good and without Rey around I don’t see him getting TV time

simian_ninja

He needs to get out of the WWE and go an explore the world a little bit. Going into the WWE is a great move to get him international exposure and put his face on the map as well as getting some training by famous wrestlers but...I think going to Mexico, Japan etc would be best for him.

ThatWrestlingGuy15

Dom needs some time on NXT as far as a mask I wouldn’t mind a run where he’s prince Mysterio the issue is we’ve seen his face and once you don the mask you aren’t suppose to remove it. I think personally he’s fine without it.

FireKal

I mean we've seen Rey's face in WCW, and he's fine now.

ThatWrestlingGuy15

Yea but even he was hesitant to put it back on for that exact reason

KidsAlwaysSeeGhosts

And he's fine now

JoesusTBF

Maybe he just does the thing where he wears a mask for his entrance but doesn't wrestle in it.

xDRxJoKeRx

Andrade does this very well with his la sombra mask, also because it would be a crime to hide someone that good looking behind a mask

noPorntobeFoundhere

Well the mask is supposed to represent your honour more than hiding your face; so they could build a story about him earning the right to done the mask.

redDEADresolve

The mask is about legacy and culture, I can't wait to see him in it in a promotion that will respect that legacy and culture.

Minnale101

I think rey setting up domink to fail Domink really needs to really be himself because he never gonna be as good rey is luchador wise The comparison will hurt him

batistafan1998

People were going to compare them anyway. Just like they do Charlotte to ric or how they are going to do the rocks daughter to him. That isn’t on Rey. That’s just how fans are.

justintrenell

Like we're two weeks in on Bron and all I've seen in comments for the most part is trying to compare him to his pops and uncle. I think Orton might be the last multi-generational performer who isn't compared to their previous generation in a one-on-one scenario.

iamaneviltaco

At least those comparisons are favorable. Nobody on earth can stand up to a comparison with Rey.

ArcDraco

I don't think people really compare Cody to Dusty much either.

MarkMVP01

People don't compare Bray and Bo to IRS either

Slatedtoprone

I think because they never really presented them as related during their run. It’s not like it was Bo Rotunda or whatever. It’s different for Cody Rhodes or Ted Dibases jr.

DZphone

Isn't the same true of Steiner's kid??... They're using a different name entirely

Estimator1313

It’s pretty easy to compare Charlotte to Ric considering that her entrance theme is a remix of Ric’s, goes “Woo!,” comes out in sparkly robes and her finisher is a modified version of the Figure 4. Charlotte is basically Rule 63 Ric Flair. Bron Breakker (dumb name aside) is also an easy comparison right now because he sounds like a lot like his uncle Scott and his attire looks a lot like the Steiner Brothers in the early ‘90s. At least Dominic actually looks different (size difference certainly does help), now if they can just give him a different finishing move besides the 619.

jimboslice21

And that's exactly why Regal wanted his son to have a completely different name in NXT

KikiFlowers

To be fair, his son has used a different name elsewhere anyway

LetsGoChuckTaylor

Baby Regal is in the LA Dojo, right?

KikiFlowers

He was, he's with WWE now. He's on NXT UK.

simian_ninja

Wait, who's his son?

jimboslice21

His name was just recently revealed as Charlie Dempsey

simian_ninja

Gonna have to keep my eye out for him. Regal was so fantastically underrated.

Doyoubleedyouwill

Charlotte does his “woo”, uses his robes, has a version of his theme, And is last named Flair. By doing all this they’re inviting the comparisons. Also has Rocks daughter debuted on TV yet?

Brooklyn2LA

He’s Rey’s son and took on the name Mysterio. A mask isn’t going to make the comparisons worse.

thesch

Yeah. In America the second/third generation wrestlers who are successful are the ones who break out and do their own thing. The ones who just try to be a new version of their dad end up not going very far.

Minnale101

Randy and Roman are like so opposite of their dads Even the rock

SideEyeFeminism

Not if he stays in WWE, no. But let him go hang in Mexico for a while and see what happens. There were articles about him being promising back before the Cain Velasquez bit (who, apparently, is actually pretty solid in the Lucha Libre style himself from the show they put on in Mexico). Rey is as good as he is not just because of talent, but because he cut his teeth in a place big on tradition

BenFranklinsCat

I feel like physically he's more like Eddie, in the way he looks and moves (though not as crisp and smooth, for obvious reasons). That's why the only way I'd be okay with the feud was if Chavo came back and we had Dominik jump to the Guerreros.

Brooklyn2LA

He’s gotten a lot better, but imagine Dom Mysterio trying to carry the other half of a feud against Rey right now? His career might never recover from that dark timeline.

Mhc2617

I can’t speak for Dominik, but I think he deserves a chance to step away from his dad’s persona and do his own thing as Dominik. I’m actually all for a father vs. son feud, but “let me do things my way,” not some blood feud. Basically Rey trying to push him to continue the family traditions, and Dominik wants to blaze his own trail. It has the potential to be a very strong story that younger fans could relate to.

SuperBatSpider

He’s be better off with his own mask, not taking the Rey Mysterio mantle. Sort of like Robin becoming Nightwing rather than becoming Batman himself

DoILookUnsureToYou

> Sort of like Robin becoming Nightwing rather than becoming Batman himself Dominik Straightforward will put butts in seats

doesntCompete

I'm a little rusty on Batman lore, but doesn't Nightwing become Batman eventually?

SuperBatSpider

yeah after Final Crisis. Great time period for Batman comics

maxhollywoody

Feud could make sense if Rey wants Dom to take over the mask but Dom wants to be his own wrestler and have his own identity. Vince hire Mhc2617

elguitarro

I was really looking forward to him doing his Prince Mysterio gimmick as he had mentioned in early interviews. A bit sad that it didn't happen or has not happened yet.

GaryBettmanSucks

I agree. Both stay faces but Dominik is more and more resistant to teaming with Rey all the time. Rey starts getting upset and begs him to think of the family. Finally Rey has a mask/retirement match and says "if you beat me, I will step away and let you take the Mysterio name wherever you want it" or whatever.

Extraneous_

I can totally see that culminating to another "Custody of Dominik" Ladder Match, except with Dominik fighting to become his own man.

DoILookUnsureToYou

Rey Rey gives Dominik the mask and retires. A year later he's back for a Saudi show. I can just see it already lol

telva1896

So La Parka could pass his mask to his son? Would he pass on the folding chair also? Someone must always be the chairmen!

Slatedtoprone

I think it would work as one match, not a feud. And more an like the old lion trying to see if the young cub is ready to step out on his own. And then, they can totally do an unmasking and him presenting it to Dominick to carry on the legacy. That would be a good story.

Yashooo

thats pretty cool

positivfeedback

I think Dominik would look weird with the mask. Just let him do his own thing

TheCanvasTheory

He could probably rock a pretty cool Mask if given his own style

TomorrowWeKillToday

Dominick just doesn’t have it like Rey did

pallarandersvisa

Dominick would not be in WWE on his own. He's really just not interesting at all. They need to stop pushing him so much.

FigureFourWoo

I don’t have a problem with Dominik, but I think he’s just too different from his dad.

LilNardoDaVinci

Sounds like Rey is sticking to his guns and good for him a heel turn from either would do nothing

daveinthegutter

Has everyone forgotten about the matches he’s already has had for custody of his son? Rey may not like it but WWE creative will have the final say on his career.

skinsrich

I get nothing from his son. If not for the last name he’d be in catering.

maxhollywoody

Vince hates Shane so much he wants Rey to squash his kid /s

TheCanvasTheory

Down in NXT UK is a guy called A-Kid. He had Spain's first-ever 5 star Meltzer Match. He's, like, 25 or around that. And he is a natural babyface. Dominick is also a natural babyface, better than you'd expect given his experience. Team these two up, have Rey as their manager/mentor. This would be a new role for Rey, avoids any form of a heel turn, and they could potentially be huge with kids. Rey can still wrestle in 6 man matches. If/when his knee explodes again he can still be present on TV once available. And it will add new youth to the main roster.

peachchaos

Why cover up that beautiful face?

Edwardc4gg

Father vs. son. I would not even watch it because that’s just not right.

AimarEraFutebol

Dont know why you would want the Rey Mysterio legend tarnished bud, but you do you.

Drogalov

This would be perfect

JNight01

I, for one, am just glad that this looks like the Filthy Animals will be re-forming.

ZersetzungMedia

The benefit Dominic has is he’s taller than his dad. That already makes him different. When your dad is considered one of the greatest of all time, and then the greatest of all time for his style, following directly in his footsteps would be a bad idea.

MicooDA

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the Luchador kayfabe, isn’t the mask the character? If Dom were to become Rey Mysterio, he would become *Rey Mysterio*, the same character that his dad is now?

Mantaur4HOF

Technically, Rey Mysterio is Rey Mysterio Jr. Guess that would make Dominik Rey Mysterio III, or El Hijo del Mysterio?

Zsokorad

El Hijo de Rey Mysterio already exists. He is actually Rey Mysterio Sr.'s son. He wrestles indies in California and Mexico. Rey Mysterio Jr. is Rey Mysterio Sr.'s nephew.

Maxamvs

If that’s the way Rey wants to go out, they’ll need a BIG monster to take him out and have Dominic overcome

Estimator1313

Omos?

FinalFrash

If it happens, I request to have "Perfect" by Simple Plan to be playing in the background

TomorrowWeKillToday

I’m sorry it’s going to be “My Sacrifice” by Creed 😆

xxyourbestbetxx

I don't want them to turn on one another. I always pop when Dom carries Rey to the ring. It's so cute. It would be cool to see Dom in a mask one day but I hope Rey isn't retiring any time soon. He's the real king of drip in the WWE. Sorry Seth.

mydadsnameisdavid

Good luck kid. Living up to one of the greatest Babyface wrestlers of all time. Top 5 not even debatable

felipe_the_dog

That's why I think Dom should go heel. He's gonna have a hell of a tough time ever being the Babyface his father was. Why not go the other way?

The_Fresh_Factor

Better baby face than... * Hogan * Steamboat * Sting * Daniel Bryan * Eddie Guerrero * DDP * Rock N Roll Express * The Von Erics * Sami Zayn (NXT) Tough sell

lordpuggerton

Hmm... Sounds like something someone who was going to get beat up by his son would say... In all seriousness I just think I'd like to see him get his own character and build himself up in NXT. Keep his family lineage relevant, but doing his own thing.

Thin-Man

I don’t want to see Dom and Rey feud. I’d love for Rey’s retirement match to be an exhibition against Dom, and then hand the mask over as he described.

fatguyswagger

That would be …. Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time

axb2002

If they were to do a Father vs. Son match, I don’t think they would need to make it a face vs. heel thing. Just make it face vs. face and have Dom go over and get the mask respectfully.

joelgoods

steel chair to the back of Dom heel turn confirmed

HintClueClintHugh

Dom shouldn't be Rey Mysterio IV and Rey should never unmask

Prestam0

that would be something different out of the ''tag team fights eachother because reasons and suvbert expectations and breaks up'' formula WWE likes to use so no.

Glum-Communication68

"Here son, you too ugly"

Kleck8228

Maybe an upcomer beats the breaks off Rey so bad (kayfabe) that he can't wrestle anymore, and he hands the mask to Dom from a hospital bed, or as he is being stretchered off. Then Dom puts it on and goes all super saiyan.

EleceRock

Rey Mysterio turns heel and began a feud between him and Dominik, at the end at the feud, maybe in one of the big PPVs, Rey loses against Dominik, realizes how wrong he was, and pass the mask to Dominik. You can do both if you just think a little.

simian_ninja

Father vs Son would kill Dominic dead in the water - absolutely no fan would want anything to do with him regardless if he was a heel or a face. Rey's story is much better and sets up the idea of the son trying to climb the mountain which is far better.

Mantuantu

A lot of people definitely is Vince lol

PhantomHavok

I wish mysterio would turn heel and manage his son for his last run that would be cool
