Someone manipulated the wiki page wrong [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_African-American\_United\_States\_presidential\_and\_vice\_presidential\_candidates](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_African-American_United_States_presidential_and_vice_presidential_candidates) So it's affecting the google result. It was originally "In 1848, Frederick Douglass became the first African-American presidential candidate. His candidacy preceded black suffrage in the U.S." Which is true: [https://nkaa.uky.edu/nkaa/items/show/2950](https://nkaa.uky.edu/nkaa/items/show/2950) June 23, 1888 is hailed as the day that Frederick Douglass received one vote from the Kentucky Delegation at the Republican Convention in Chicago, making him the first African American nominated to be a U.S. presidential candidate. This was actually the second time that Frederick Douglass had received a single vote to be a U.S. presidential candidate; his first vote came during the National Liberty Party Convention, June 14-15, 1848 in Buffalo, NY

Thank You! This is exactly what I was trying to get an answer to! Crazy that Google allowed it to be manipulated by someone, was so confused.. It's a shame FD never become President elect..bet he woulda made a good one

> Crazy that Google allowed it to be manipulated by someone, was so confused.. Google fucks shit like that up all the time. I asked for "First Ski Area to open in US 2020" and it gave me some place out in California, that anyone skiing would know is absolutely not right. It picked that out of some article about the first place in that state to open, and applied it to the entire US. It makes mistakes like that all the time, and if people publish information that is wrong (including technical or scientific information), it often screws it up.

Broseph_Stalin357

WoW, so I guess its best to not rely solely on Google for important information. This paper would have most likely gotten an F or D grade if I had just blindly used this information for my essay. I was about to think the Mandella effect is 100% real if FD really had been the first black President cause I know I never learned that growing up lol

a_cute_epic_axis

That's why wikipedia is not allowed as a source in academic papers generally. What you can do is look up the info on Wikipedia and then either go to the references for the original source, or use that to search for better sources.

> razy that Google allowed it to be manipulated by someone, was so confused.. I don't think it's maniuplating. In search results on google, it's pulling this from the caption under Douglas: "Frederick Douglass became the first African-American presidential candidate of the US." Then adds three dots "..." Then pulls from the caption under Obama: "He was the first Black-American to be elected (and re-elected) president of the United States." Maybe it's confusing on how it reads, but it's normal google pulling some data some some webpages you're searching for.

sceadwian

I don't see anything being manipulated at all. The information there is correct. The OP just misread something.

m00nd00datude

It was edited incorrectly but is now fixed. It said before "In 1848, Frederick Douglass became the **first African-American president** of the US." Not Presidential candidate, but President

sceadwian

Ahh, I see the edit now.

TheOmni

It doesn't? "In 1872, Douglass became the first African American nominated for Vice President of the United States" Not sure what you're seeing.

pete_from_rainy_lake

Obama is just as white as he is black

Broseph_Stalin357

So even in a racists mind he's half right?

pete_from_rainy_lake

You're just 100% wrong is what I'm saying

Broseph_Stalin357

Take it up with Google, I don't write it bruh

pete_from_rainy_lake

The part you didn’t put in quotations?

Broseph_Stalin357

Ohh My bad, Now I get what you mean but that would only make me 50% wrong

bargman

NOMINATED

sceadwian

Colin Powel actually got 3 electoral votes in 2016, I didn't know that. That being said I think you read that wrong as that's not what it says when I use the same search terms.
