Spot on there

Based as always. Came to the rescue when I couldn't get my comfort-crushing from watching Craig Ferguson anymore.
God I miss Craig Ferguson. And Geoff Peterson. And Secretariat.
So much. Read his book between the bridge and the river because I couldn't just keep rewatching him being charming. Very recommendable.
This. This. This. John Oliver is a good person.
edit: I believe I found the [sauce](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmoAX9f6MOc)
Something tells me its both.
People work on incentives, electoral politics are built to be corrupt and strip you of any moral principles. Otherwise how could the rich and powerful hold onto their stuff? We feel like we should trust politicians but their job has never been to serve us.
I generally like his show and the points that it makes...
But oh my is he unfunny. He has occasional good lines, like in this post, but they are buried in bad, drawn out jokes.
But the stunts that he pulls at the end of episodes are pretty entertaining.
as an autistic person, I'd say that his type of humour is refreshing, but not for everybody
What does that have to do with being autistic??
I'm not sure but if I had to guess it's about the jokes being a little more spelled out and obvious, which might make it easier for an autistic person to pick up on them
Technically no joke is unfunny, just funny to different people. But honestly I don't think the comedy's the main draw of the show, moreso the actual news and discussion, though I might be wrong.
I wouldn't say its like standup, but I do find it funny personally
IMO the comedy just makes it better, cuz it almost makes him feel like a super supportive dad, like he's always trying to be funny and making u groan, but it wouldn't be the same without it y'know? And it makes when he gets serious a lot more impactful.
That's actually a cool way to look at it, I might try to see it in that light next time I watch him
Cool! Glad I could influence you opinion of John oliver!
I can stop my search, then. Thanks!
The weather man in that clip actually seems low key trans positive.
Weather man: "What is a transgender woman?"
Offscreen voice: "She was a man and is now a woman."
Weather man: "So then don't you mean just a woman? I can't keep up anymore!"
He a little confused, but he got the spirit
Ignorance isn’t always bad. I’m ignorant to quantum physics. But what makes it okay is I’m willing to learn. It’s always surprising how many people are apposed to learning.
I don't find it surprising, I find it disheartening. They could learn to be better, they could learn to understand other people, thereby making the world better, and they just *won't*
This version is missing one very important (for emphasis) word :P
it was blacked out by them ;\^;
I agree, fucking is a very good word
my seventh favourite word, in fact
Shout out to him playing Professor Duncan in Community, great performance of a British asshole. In his own words "I got a real big penis and I drink lots of tea"
Wish that wasn't the episode with the "tr*nny dance" bit, even if I do think it was more misguided than malicious
Yeah, that joke is kinda yikes but still a good episode and I doubt it was malicious
was Pierce that made that joke? i don't remember anyhting about this dance, i mostly take every joke Pierce makes as if we're supposed to laugh at him
Nope, it was the Dean and implied to he totally by accident. "Some people are saying that transfer formal dance isn't rolling off the tongue so we're just going to call it the tr*nny dance!"
i remember it now, yeah
um excuse me but the correct medical term is none of your *fucking* business
John Oliver and Trevor Noah are the best
John Oliver is a lib but i like him
actually he has a bunch of good opinions, I think he’s a cryptosocialist (a socialist who’s “closeted” abt it) but the network won’t let him.
He's definitely one of the better libs out there, i wouldn't be surprised if he was some sort of leftist on the DL but I also wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't
Edit: also congrats on hrt. You got it a day before my birthday wacky
It turns out your political beliefs doesn't matter and you can be a nice person regardless!
Well most people don't know this, that's for sure.
They definitely do matter? Like if someone believes in austerity and things are bad for poor people I am gonna have a bad opinion of them for that whatever they think of trans people lol. I don’t think john oliver is quite there and is somewhat critical of us imperialism so he’s not *awful* but saying political beliefs don’t matter is ridiculous.
They do tho. Your political beliefs definitely do matter. Being nice doesn't make you a good person.
Oh they definitely matter. And I don't know why you get downvoted for that. A Nazi is rightly called an asshole because of his political believes.
Literally political believes form our society and we see time and time again how bad ones harm people actively.
That was my point. Iunno why I was down voted. Esp. since I mentioned his beliefs because he is a political commentator? Like my opinion on him is litterally based on his politics because I know him exclusively through a political lense.
And being left wing doesn’t make you one either?
No…but being Right Wing usually entails NOT being a good person so…
Yes they do tend to correlate a lot but but it’s not really what actually defines whether you’re a good person.
i dont think its specifically right and left say a lot about you, theres hundreds of wildly different beliefs in both of those very broad categories, you gotta be more specific when it comes to what political beliefs are warning signs, like for the most common example, nazis, always a major warning sign
I actually started on my birthday, so ur birthday is a day after mine!
It is so refreshing to see a white cishet man in the media actually be supportive!
John Oliver is a great show highly recommend as most of it is one their youtube!
John Oliver is one of those voices (literally) that even if the quote isnt his, I still read it in his own voice
But that is his quote
It _is_ missing a "fucking" though.
Ah fuck. I used to watch him before I came out. Now I got to watch this episode ahha
Y E S
I fucking love this guy
john oliver! i love him
Subtitles missed a word there
I love John Oliver
Why is that a lot of comedians seem to be smarter and more accepting than most people?
You sure about that? I genuinely struggle to think of more than 2 comedians that aren’t some form of bigoted, be that racist, transphobic, homophobic, sexist, etc.
