Falcon and Winter Soldier: Episode 5 - Discussion Thread

Don't forget to check the End Credits !
sad to see zemo go - he was an absolute delight in this series and stole every scene! But hes just in jail again, so he could always escape down the road
I'm thinking that >!Madam Hydra will be forming the Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers. USAgent, possibly Zemo?!<
Abomination, Ghost, Taskmaster, Batroc, the new Black Window? Secretary Ross funding it all
That is such a great typo the dreaded Black Window.
What the curtains?
Sam and Bucky throwing the shield around like they’re playing Frisbee
While having a heart to heart lmao, this show is amazing
Seeing healthy masculine relationships on screen is shockingly rare. One of my favorite MCU scenes.
"The most versatile substance on the planet, and they used it to make a Frisbee "
That moment between Zemo and Bucky was incredibly poignant. Beautiful acting.
I was so worried that Bucky would use the gun. I just couldn't see him doing it and I'm so happy he didn't. Such an awesome moment, I wonder if we'll see Zemo for a little bit in the next ep, he's been an awesome addition in this series
Kind of love that Zemo wasn't going to beg or plead and accepted his fate, both with the gun to his face and being extradited to Wakanda
Zemo wanted to be killed because he desperately misses his family. Remember, Zemo tried to kill himself at the end of Civil War. If Zemo couldn't help take down and kill Karli and the rest of the super soldiers, the peace of death was a welcome alternative.
Yep... That's a broken arm alright.
Only a flesh wound
Tis but a scratch
Can we just appreciate how much Wyatt Russell kills the roll? Phenomenal casting.
He's absolutely brilliant. Just when I think I despise him, he makes me sympathise with him and then just when I sympathise with him, he makes me despise him against.
He is absolutely commanding in the role.
“You forgot the wings?”
He says holding the shield.
Not to be Brad Pitt in Se7en but, what’s in the box??
It's probably a new suit
So yeah...Sam’s talk with Isaiah kinda broke me. Bucky flirting with Sarah remade me.
EDIT: For anyone old enough to remember, I just learned that Carl Lumby played the main character in the old Fox series, MANTIS! I loved that show as a teen 😊
My highlight was Bucky explaining how he's right-handed. For some reason, that bit slayed me.
“Steve is gone,”
Like.....to the moon?
Last shot of the show is gonna be Steve looking down at the Earth from base on the Moon 100%
Yeah they seem like they’re intentionally being vague about that
If he's dead, I'd be shocked we haven't had a funeral scene. But he can't just be retired, otherwise they wouldn't act like he's impossible to contact. I reckon he's in the other timeline
Who knows, maybe we'll see him in Loki... That show is all about correcting timelines that have gone off course
Given that it’s a show and not a movie I’m not holding my breath, but I’d love to see a time hopping Loki see Steve, or Tony, or Natasha.
Haha, that little side eye from Sam after the “hi, Sarah.”
He was fully like, since when do you go all smiley smiley?
We keep forgetting how good Bucky was with the ladies. Remember the first avenger!? Bucky has always been great at flirting and who can even blame him.
CAPTAIN SAMERICA TRAINING MONTAGE!
nice to see bucky’s practicing new knife tricks
Why am I feeling emotional just from Sam wiping the blood off the shield
He's thinking "shit how am I going to make this a symbol for good like Steve after this" I bet
...JULIA LOUIS DREYFUS??
Playing comic book Nick Fury's girlfriend.
Yup. Russian sleeper agent/Hydra...all that good stuff. I'm happy they cast her!
Sounds about on-par with who I’d expect Fury to date
So glad that this didn't leak. I didn't even know that this was the cameo that I needed. A+
Thought she was reprising her role as the blind lawyer from Arrested Development with those sunglasses on
Not gonna lie, had to keep reminding myself it wasn’t the Vice President there
It was Julia all along!!
I see there going with purple as the villain theme this phase
Purple seems to give the best villains. Thanos, Agatha Harkness, Purple Man if you count David Tennant in Jessica Jones...
Madame HYDRA y’all
Gotta love Bucky twirling the tool like his WS knives lol. And wow, Anthony Mackie is killing it this episode
Mackie has killed it all 5 episodes.
Mackie has been killing it the whole time. I don't think he even stepped up his game this episode, he just did what he does and the script gave him more room to do so.
CUT THE CHECK.
It’s so nice to see John Walker is moving on! Picking up a productive hobby like welding will be so helpful in taking his mind off of all this.
It would be funny if he was godawful at welding and showed up to a fight with a high school shop class reject for a shield.
“What about the wings”
Lol Torres is becoming The Falcon like in the comics.
Think there's a chance of seeing him show up with em next week? Or probably too soon and this was just a tease for some future project?
Might be a Young Avengers setup.
TORRES HAS THE WINGS!!!
Edit: And it looks like Wakanda made the SamCap suit. Ah, my heart.
I’m so glad they brought him back, was worried when he sort of just disappeared for a few episodes
now i really hoping for season 2. Torres as the new Falcon and the introduction for Patriot
bucky and sam doing boat repairs was exactly the wholesomeness i needed after the heavy first half of this episode
Imagine being told a couple of years ago that there’d be a show about Falcon and Bucky, and they’d have an extended musical montage where they fix a boat together.
Them playing a light game of 'catch' with the shield really warmed my heart too.
I'm telling yah, I would not face these people in discgolf.
Honestly, it’s what I expected the whole season to be before the season began, lmao.
Totally down for a season 2, and I wouldn’t even be mad if it was just their day to days. I like the overarching story, but this show would really work in any format. Sam and Bucky are such an unexpectedly great duo.
I dont want a season 2 of WandaVision, because I just don't think it'd work. But a 2nd season of Falcon and Winter Soldier might be something that seems more plausible in the MCU
WandaVision season 2 wouldnt really work because it’s built around the whole Westview premise. FAWS season 2 can work because it’s built primarily around the relationship between Sam and Bucky following Steve’s departure, and you can plug in different plot stuff around that to make it work.
I wouldn’t be mad at it
Sams training montage. Loved it.
He’s gonna kick batroc’s ass next episode in his sweet new vibranium captain America uniform.
I JUST WANNA FUCKING SEE IT
I very rarely talk at my TV, but when that cut happened, I said. "Oh fuck you. In the butt."
Walker was ready to kill falcon.
I felt like he was legitimately aiming to decapitate Sam. Chilling.
It was disturbing to me how he kept using the shield as a bludgeoning weapon with his strength. I was like “stop trying to kill people with the shield!”
Not only Falcon, but also Bucky. He was holding NOTHING back. Hell, he even managed to send Buck with enough force into a steel pillar that fucked his vibranium arm up.
i'm surprised nothing more came from his arm fucking up
First one of the show! This dude’s spiraling haha
The pattern seems to be the second to last episode of each series.
Not fake captian America with his fake shield
That steel shit gonna break against vibranium.
"You're welcome" from Bucky kills me every time.
I know I've seen the shot of the bullets falling in a trailer or something before, but I'll be damned if I didn't gasp a little when Bucky dropped them. The Zemo/Wakanda wrap-up was so fucking good.
Also, I'll take six episodes of Sam and Bucky throwing the shield around like a baseball in the front yard and having tough love therapy time, with an option for a second season of just Sam flip-catching the shield. Every bit of the Louisiana arc in this episode was perfect.
Also also, Walker was going to straight up murder Sam in that warehouse, holy shit.
Bucky drops the shield next to Sam:
“Boom, you looking for this?”
I said "Boom, you looking for this?"... Why do I even talk to you guys?!
That's the whole story?
*You lose this again, I'm keeping it*
“You forgot the wings”
I got chills
wakanda definitely built some nano-tech wings into his new suit tho! They can fit a whole black panther in a necklace, they can definitely fit some wings into a super suit
The question is - does his suit grow out from a single item? Like the black panther necklace or tony starks suit from his chest piece in Infinity War?
I get the feeling that Juaquin is going to be the Falcon next. He was in the comics, and it seems to be leading there.
Bucky being right-handed and forgetting about his metal arm, then immediately turning around to hit on Sam's sister was the best sequence in this episode
It was fun. That and the scene where she shows up as Bucky and Sam were trying to finish up some of the fixes at dawn before she woke up. That was beautifully lit. Also, loved the banter.
The whole show is beautifully lit.
The cinematography doesn’t get enough credit around here. Honorable mentions go to the shot of Big Lots Cap kneeling in the warehouse, and the shot from out of the overhead window right before Sam left the wings and took the shield.
That was such a wholesome, Steve Rogers-esque line, too. Shows why they were such good friends - cut from the same cloth.
By far my favorite episode of the season and just marvel content in general. The action was fantastic, humor was on point, the taking on racial issues was executed to perfection, Wyatt Russell acting chops were shown off, Buckys and sams connection was amazing, I’m continuing to like Karli’s progression of turning more villainous, and lastly that rebuilding the boat restoration and both shield practicing scenes were fantastic
I thought Julia Louis-Dreyfus was here as an Arrested Development crossover as Maggie Lizer
Cherrith Cutestory was shaking
He's that maritime lawyer right?
YOURE A CROOK CAPTAIN HOOK!
I mean it's one shield Bucky, what could it cost? $10?
I love that Bucky and Sam play catch with a shield and talk about their problems like it’s a football
I feel like seeing that wouldve made Steve really happy
What makes you think he doesn’t have a telescope on the moon with him?
They got Julia Louis-Dreyfus?!!
Why did it take me this fucking long to realize that he's literally UNCLE SAM 😱😱😱
Petition for an HGTV-style show starring Sam and Bucky doing repair work...
I mean, we all know why the Property Brothers are so popular, right? Wandavision gave me competent women eye candy, this was some excellent competent man eye candy. Impossible not to feel flustered by two very attractive men standing close to each other fixing things.
Property Partners...no Property Co-workers...no Property Two Guys With A Mutual Friend...just Property Two Guys
Sam realized that children, like his nephews, need to see and believe in Captain America. He finally has his own reason, and ultimately, it's selfless.
I can believe in Sam Wilson as Captain America, a decent person, representing decent people, helping people be their best selves.
ok so its now officially canon that steve told bucky his plan to leave beforehand? before this it was just speculation right?
also walkers gone crazy lol
Holy guacamole new Falcon was just born.
Okay, quietly considering the stabbing balance of a glazier knife is the most "Bucky helps fix a fishing boat" thing ever.
> you want to climb out of that hell youre in - do the work. Do it.
Sam with the /r/GetMotivated advice
I love that Sam's willing to say the hard truths to Bucky because he cares about him and knows what he's been doing isn't working and he isn't afraid to say things that Bucky won't like hearing. I'm so glad they finally talked about Bucky holding on to Steve's memory and it totally stalling his life.
Bucky defo gonna talk to Yuri about his son. I'm not gonna be ready for the emotional rollercoaster when that happens
The thing is, he asks.
Bucky is a traumatised veteran, working through it. Sam knows this. So he does something very important. He asks. "Are you ready for some tough love?"
Such a big move! "Are you in a good headspace right now for a harsh truth?" And you know, you just know that if Bucky had shaken his head, Sam would have nodded his and come back to him at the right time.
Ugh, every damn episode, Sam shows us exactly why Steve gave him that shield.
Court scene: the resemblance, the voice... I thought it was Kurt Russell speaking for a second. He’s got the same range as his dad!
Until this exact second, I did not know he was Kurt Russell’s kid.
MCU Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine of SHIELD is Selena Meyers confirmed
I'm like 90% sure she was there to recruit John Walker to the Thunderbolts. She's going to be Dark Coulson.
She might be the Power Broker. Trying to engineer a big crisis, get rid of a bunch of people.
This is my favorite theory yet. Would make sense for the power broker to recruit him especially since he has the serum, and that would explain why she was so satisfied that he wants to kill the flag smashers.
Bucky hitting on Sam’s sister my god 💀
DID BUCKY CALL HIM SAMUEL?
Well duh he can't call him Sam they're not friends, they're totally workplace proximity associates..
Co-workers. Two guys with a mutual friend. But the mutual friend is gone. So just two guys.
Partners! Wait, no, that sounds way too serious, we're...some guys.
We stan men having positive discussions about their feelings.
Gahhh so much I am over the moon
Did you notice an old man there by any chance?
Bucky and Sam are a lot calmer than I thought they would be honestly. I love Sam always reasoning with people
Bucky bringing Sam the suit made me so happy. Can’t wait to see these two people who used to have a mutual friend continue growing their non-friendship.
HOT DAMN Sam and Bucky actually talked to each other!!!
I’m so happy Sam finally got to help Bucky as a PTSD vet. Perfect character building.
I am so ready for this ep! How can Thursday night feel so much like Christmas?
That's the magic of Marvel Studios!
Show us what's in the fucking box sam
I'm guessing it's either new wings or that impact absorbing material that Shuri made big bro's new suit in Black Panther, but Captain America colors.
Why not both?!
Wow that opening fight scene was *chef’s kiss*. That spin move Sam did with the wings, tripping Walker, was soooo clean
Okay, has Walker actually deluded himself in to thinking the guy killed Lemar and not Karli? Or is he just doubling down on the lie?
I think part of him knows. He mentions how he would never let Lemar's killer go and looks guilty af
I think Lamar's sister suspects that Walker isn't telling the truth. Look at how she reacts to his "guilty" neutral face when Walker is hugging Lamar's Mom while Lamar's Mom is saying "He's resting peacefully knowing you got his killer" (paraphrased)
In his eyes flag smashers killed lemar so he is gonna kill every last one of them
I think he blames them all. They’re all the enemy
Idk if my heart is okay to see Bucky finally come clean to Yori.. 😢
I’ve been dreading it since the moment they dropped that bomb. 😬
When I saw those articles that said the surprise actor was an award-winning one I didn’t think it would be eleven-time Emmy winner JULIA LOUIS DREYFUS!
Holy crap, I want a poster of Bucky standing in that ray of sunlight.
The cinematography on this show is really excellent. I loved the really wide shot of Fake Cap kneeling in the warehouse.
John Walker went from being an honored super solider to a deranged die-hard cosplayer lol.
JOHN WALKER MADE THAT SHIELD IN HIS GARAGE
#WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS
He's gonna go all in and dress his wife up like Peggy.
Lol. Making his own shield.
No no no no don't end the episode like this... PLEASEEEE
What a chilling contrast between Tony Stark’s and John Walker’s hammering sounds
Bucky just staring at the bloody shield with dead af eyes
Walker is just trying to bludgeon everyone with that shield, isn’t he??
Wasn't Steve's mom also named Sarah?
WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME
God damn are the next 7 days gonna be a painful wait.
This training montage is incredible
I really hope they keep that song as Sam Cap's theme. It's a fucking banger
Also if I don't get Bucky confronting Yori about what happened to his son I'll be disappointed. He really needs that closure, and it'll be a great way to wrap up his arc about healing from his emotional trauma.
The advice Sam gave Bucky was heart warming and exactly what he needed to hear. Bucky seems the type to need tough love, and it's definitely Sam's personality to dish it out. What a wonderful scene to outline the genuine nature of their friendship.
Wyatt Russell is absolutely phenomenal
Ayo addressed Bucky as White Wolf again THANK BAST
It feels so wrong seeing blood on the shield
Look What You Made Me Do - John Walker/Taylor Swift
BUCKY AND SARAH???!!
Get ready for the new spinoff, _The Falcon's Sister and the Winter Soldier._
Walker's brain is broke man.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the MCU!!! hell yeah, never expected that. And seems to be a villain too
“Hey, you got your sleeve back!” Thanks, Torres. Needed that laugh after that intense opening.
John yelling “why are you making me do this?!” Like some kind of abusive husband or whatever
They do such a amazing job of making you start to feel bad for Walker, and then having him immediately make the _worst_ choice possible. Going to be real interesting to see where they take his character.
Im glad that they do this with him, because it demonstrates how people's toxic behaviors draw from a deep well of insecurity, fear, and anxiety, thus it becomes easy for them to believe that they are not evil, but rather acting in their own self defense.
Sam’s getting a new brother in law 😏
They’re not friends, not partners, and they aren’t co-workers....they’re FAMILY.
Do I hear Vin Diesel?
Anthony’s acting in this episode >>
This entire show. Really enjoying the extra focus on him and Sebastian.
Walker's discharge parallels the US's treatment of veterans. Make them do horrendous things and suffer terribly in the name of the country only to not provide them with the adequate help they need when they're done with their service
He was right when he said “I am Captain America”. He is the Captain America they designed. They made the perfect soldier and put more and more pressure on him.
Anthony Mackie probably felt the same way about becoming Cap as his character did
All the more reason I'd love to know his views on how they crafted the storyline and what (If any) input he had on the process of developing his character for this series.
I like that they included the detail of his character being from Louisiana. Anthony Mackie is from New Orleans, and he said in an interview that "\[After Hurricane Katrina\] I was labelled a refugee in my own country." Sam would have gone through the same thing.
POST CREDIT SCENE EVERYONE
Elaine Bennis.. heck yeah love me some JLD
That Sam and Isaiah scene was so powerful.. great acting from both of em
"Two guys who knew a guy and are just two guys now" ... Print that on a t-shirt 😂😂
I think the story Arc with Sam’s boat is actually a metaphor for rehabilitation :
the easy thing to do would be to sell the boat or let it rot : but the hard thing to do is build it back up so it can be used again, not only used again but admired.
ALSO: it took a town to “rehabilitate” the boat. Just as it takes a group of people working together to rehabilitate a person
The easy thing to do is kill Karli, the hard thing is to rehabilitate her and her mindset.
I am in love with an ex-assassin and I don’t care who knows it.
Am I the only one who wants to bake him cookies but also give him sharp objects to play with?
If we see Sam in the Cap costume, I am gonna lose my mind!!!
If we don’t see it next week, I will be knocking on Feige’s front door for a conversation!!
Here's the wiki on JLD's character for anyone who was unfamiliar with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
This episode went by way too quickly
Steve’s not gone...he’s just vibing on the moon.
i was thinking US Agent would be an end of season cliffhanger, but we are getting it right away it seems
