Palegg_Bread

Exactly, a perfect protagonist certainly isn’t one with perfect ideals and decisions

HiItsLust

Does anyone know why the online light novel and the Amazon light novel for TBATE are slightly different because I want to use the audio book and read but when compared to the online LN the audio book sentences are slightly different at times and seems more censored

Palegg_Bread

They are slightly different, sometimes entire chapters are displaced. I read the book along with the audio book and it works fine as long as you find where to realign it every time it gets off track. The wording is different nomatter what though

yourdaddy001

Oh okay, but In the beginning they censer the word “mothers vag” and the “Breast feeding” part in the audio book is that a recurring theme throughout the novel?

Palegg_Bread

It shouldn’t be the guy doing the audio book says “fuck” here and there so it should be fine

yourdaddy001

Oh okay, and since you read the original with the audio book which was better?

Palegg_Bread

Personally I think the audio book was better since the format and word choice exceeded that of the novel to a considerably higher degree

yourdaddy001

I was just more concerned because In some instances “like in mushoku tensei” the web novel is true to the Japanese light novel and will have the same rated R scenes and language either with sex or gory because it’s a part of the story but when a company adapts it to a English light novel they censor or change part of the main story to keep it pg, they also did this in classroom of the elite so I wanted to know if the English audiobook/light novel it true to the web novel/Japanese light novel

Palegg_Bread

The novel was never adapted to English because it was originally written in English. The author was born in Canada and currently resides in the U.S. The comic is censored to a considerable degree but the lightnovel/audiobook is filled with all the juicy goodness of gore and language. There’s no sex scenes to begin with though

yourdaddy001

Ahh I see okay sounds good

Beautiful-Fact-1535

Grey arguably the best written character in the show.

Jonamuffin

"arguably" I'm pretty sure that there isn't any other competition considering Grey is the focal point of the show due to him being the *main character.*

wearingmyseatbelt

exactly. If the main character of a show/manga/novel is not the best written character in the show, something is wrong.

ArthursRequiem

No not necessarily, a lot of amazing series have antagonists that are a lot better than the MC. Eg. Griffith , johan

wearingmyseatbelt

Personally, I don't think I've encountered such shows yet. The main character always has the most screen time amd thus should have the most detailed backstory, with every step of their character development laid out in front of the viewer. But I feel like if I did, it would be difficult to call it a good show, since I always root for the protagonist.

TheNaito

hey have you heard about zuko from atla

wearingmyseatbelt

I have, and I think he has come an equally long way to maturing compared to Aang. The whole squad did. But I'd say Aang had the biggest amount of screen time dedicated to his growth and his past, while Zuko was briefly mentioned in the first season and only started showing development in season 2. So while Zuko went through an incredible transformation, some of it was off screen, while we got to witness Aang slowly come to terms with even being the Avatar. However, that's just my opinion.

Spirintus

Ah, nope. Really good fiction has a whole cast of well written characters on very similar level of well-writenness. The fact the character isn't the main character, doesn't mean it can be written badly...

wearingmyseatbelt

*The fact the character isn't the main character, doesn't mean it can be written badly* Never said that, my friend!:)

Beautiful-Fact-1535

Facts

tbate_is_love

FYI, character development doesn't erase the things he has done in the past (it's called character **development** for a reason. If he would have been perfect from the beginning then there would be **Zero** character **development**)and I don't think that anyone has ever denied his character development.

lemmo23

There are people who actually ignores his character development though, focusing on his past mistakes when comparing him to other characters. Yes, people like that exist.

VictorKymb

Iirc, the topic started when people were spitting on Nico because he killed several sordiers, including alacryans, and for proving that Arthur too did horrible things, the genocide was mentioned, for the sake of proving that even Art did a similar thing in the past and Nico ain’t the devil. That’s not for criticizing him, just for proving that Arthur, like anyone else, has flaws.

lemmo23

That argument was dumb tbh, people we're comparing them solely for their killcount. Saying that Nico was apparently better because he killed less people than Grey lol. I don't pretty much care if Grey is worse than Nico at the beginning, pretty much at the end he ended up being a much better person than Nico.

VictorKymb

That wasn’t that way, that wasn’t about comparing who is better or not based on their kill counts, just for proving that even Arthur has made a similar thing. It wasn’t about doing a fixation on it. Maybe you find it dumb because you interpreted this the wrong way.

lemmo23

Like I said, I do not care about that sort of things, and Arthur is not similar to Nico just because they did some horrible stuff. Sure Arthur did some pretty nasty stuff during his time as Grey all for the sake of revenge. And sure Nico is also the same, but the difference was after they succeeded. Arthur, at the end, finally realized that despite all his powers, all his achievements, he will never be satisfied with the result of his revenge. And on his second life, he vows to not walk down the same path ever again. Choosing to become stronger for the sake of protecting his family rather than taking revenge. Now that's character development right there, and there are people who would actually ignore this SMH. Nico, on the other hand... well, do I really need to say much? It's pretty much obvious at this point.

tbate_is_love

Nico is over-hated. The whole discussion was about ppl portraying him as some kind of devil while they r ignorant about the things grey did. Ppl even hate Nico for things he never did and some other dumb stuff. Like this was the reply from someone on that particular topic: >He knew in his past life that Cecilia was in love with Gray. Maybe he knew that Gray had feelings for her, too. But Nico never tried to help them be together, as a true friend should have done, but only pursued his own selfish goals. > >I know about that. Don't play smart with me. She only agreed to be with Nico because Gray decided not to get close to her because of Nico, who was in love with Cecilia. Nowhere did it say that Cecilia really loved Nico, she just had no choice. But you can say that Cecilia died for Nico, but I don't think it's that clear and we'll know more when Cecilia gets her memories back. The post was clearly in defense for Nico, **NOT** to attack Arthur.

TimelessPandaa

Most of the people dont use it to Show that he is worse but are tilted, because some people see Arthur as a perfect beeing, that He is not. I got example love the story exaclty because every character in so well thought out and that there is no completly Bad character but only Grey (pun intended)

Atrouin

Does no one recognize Paarthrunaxs quote. Damn :/

lemmo23

Kids don't usually play Skyrim.

VOIDEATHER

an that is just sad..

Alven_Richard_W

I allways wonder, how much information about greys past did the web comic leave out (at first i started out with the webcomic so im surprised to find out he did genocide)

madmax9_11

The webcomic is only at the beginning of volume 4 those flashbacks appeared at around volume 6-7

One-Ad9248

Nope the genocide part was around ch 21 in novel

madmax9_11

Oh nvm then

Fun-Conversation2352

He is still the same killing machine he was back on earth ....the only difference is he's let people into his life ....he tortured Lucas ,the alacrian soldier , didn't give a damn that his presence might and did kill the grambell siblings and their friend, would have committed genocide during the four clans (fighting the monkeys), Killed more than a dozen ascenders even tho the message he wanted to put across could have been done by breaking their bones and knocking them unconscious....the only way he knows how to resolve conflict is through violence (killing)

Hot-Buffalo8169

Hmm, imagine a prominent figure who committed genocide in real life reinarnates as an op mc in another universe. Still doesn't take away they committed genocide, but they'll probavly have one hell of a character development lol

lemmo23

You're confusing fiction into real life kid, remember all these characters are not real. Go touch some grass.

Hot-Buffalo8169

LOL true, with that salty comeback I could tell this hit a nerve. My bad bud, just saying Art still committed genocide, no amount of character dev could take away from that

lemmo23

Your argument is dumb tbh, the point of an isekai is living a different life in a different world and learning from your past mistakes, this isn't some shounen manga kid, this is not your read.

Hot-Buffalo8169

??? What are you so pressed about? Genocide is bad. Shounen manga or 51 fucking shades of gray rated novels doesn't matter. Doesn't take that many braincells to process. He's a better person now no doubt about it, but I don't know why you're defending him since he can't really live the typically shounen isekai way of life since literally much of his struggles is literally tied to his old world, you're right, this is not some shounen manga, actions actually have consequences. Surprising huh, no shounen fresh start sadly

lemmo23

LOL true, with that salty comeback I can tell this hit a nerve. My bad bud, just saying Art still have the best character development in the series despite him committing genocide in his past life. And nothing could take that away from him. 😘

Hot-Buffalo8169

I agree with you there, just don't defend genocide and we're good brother, that's just weird

Conspir4c7

I seriously dont know why many people criticize grey for comitting a genocide just to prove that he is much or more worst than Nico. Remember that he is a king and according to the book titled the prince (Machiavelli (the author) stated be careful not to advocate cruelty for cruelty's sake. As in he warns the prince not to constantly injure his subjects, because this will make him hated. Instead, he must be cruel only when necessary to avoid greater wrongs.) That being said his world is not a wonderland and it is constantly filled with chaos that is why excercising cruelty when needed is also can be good for his country or maybe even the world. People will not listen in that world unless you prove your strength afterall. All of his actions maybe justified depending in the situation. We dont know the full picture why he committed genocide but we all know Nico's driving force is his own selfishness.

tbate_is_love

The thing is, it's almost given that, King Grey, laid waste to a country for revenge AFTER the reason for his revenge ran out since he had already obliterated the organization responsible for the headmaster's death. Plus don't forget that his society had progressed past full-scale war. They handled international issues with Duels. Grey said fuck that I'm going to bring back the total war on the entire population. All for some revenge...

mrkaas69

in a story the second one is better imo but in the real world id rather have ppl lile the first optiokn u know what i mean

SHANERER

Wait what genocide?

tbate_is_love

Mentioned in chapter 21 "For Them"

Aleksanser

Hey don't use Paarthurnax words against me, you're gonna make me cry

VOIDEATHER

paarthurnax quote is fire asf

Why_Is_It_Me120

Pretty sure he’s one of two characters who actually developed. I think his genocidal nature contributed well to his arc

goodguyscorp

The pathronax quete fits so well
