Hail to the thief that stole ‘hail to the thief’ from top 3 Radiohead albums

higgon

It was George W. Bush

brownliquid

It’s my favourite!

yearofourlordAD

It’s tied with in rainbows in my book. That album is bursting with emotion and romance. So sexy.

hoopstick

I'd like to see a breakdown of how users age reflects their favorite album.

32 and my favourite album has always been Hail To The Thief which I know, trust me I’ve heard it, is an arguable choice.

Amnesiac is in my Top 3 I don't really understand what people have against it. It has like 5 of my favorite songs. Not just by Radiohead, in general.

25 and Hail to the Thief

Motionpicturerama

Hail to the Thief is my second favourite!! I love to death, wish people paid more attention to it. Isn't it also very accessible though? edit : Added a question

OliveGreen87

Where I End and You Begin is a stunning song and I don’t hear people talk about it ever. It now reminds me of taking edibles in the middle of nowhere Oregon and zoning out listening to it...(we’re from a red state and so it’s rare for us to get edibles)

PowerfulGoose

31 and hail to the thief is mine as well. I also rank okc and kid a above in rainbows but I think that makes me some kind of opinion terrorist around here

thebeaverchair

34 and Hail to the Thief is my number one as well. Been a fan since I first heard Creep when I was 7 or 8.

[deleted]

38, not my favorite, but it's up there. That album got me through some shit.

CoolHeadedLogician

Thats another good question, what song got you into radiohead and how old were you? 12, karma police for me

johnhk4

17 yrs old. Smoking my first cigarette and my cousin puts on Everything in its Right Place via a CD player with a cassette tape adapter in his green Jeep Cherokee with a vanilla Christmas tree car freshener, going 60mph down a backroad on a frigid day in late spring of 2002 in the woods of Suffolk County, Long Island NY.

gladvillain

My brother is a few years older than you, and I'm a couple years older than him. He is constantly trying to argue for HTTT as number 1. I go back and forth between In Rainbows and Kid A. I feel like OK Computer is up there as well I just have much stronger personal connections with those other two.

fat_over_lean

31 and HTTT is my fav as well, but I consider OKC their 'best' work.

29 here 1. In rainbows 2. Kid A 3. Ok computer 4. A moon shaped pool 5. Amnesiac 6. Hail to the thief 7. The king of limbs 8. The bends 9. Pablo Honey

Tripswytch

50. I bought Pablo Honey on the strength of Creep and I still like the album. It made me appreciate what an astonishing accomplishment The Bends was. Each album thereafter just enhanced my admiration for the band. My preferences are fluid though and as much as I love all of the bands work i find myself liking some albums more than others at different times.

youhaveballs

51. I did exactly the same thing. And I wholeheartedly agree.

CarlsJrSeniorIII

34 and Kid A is definitely my favorite, but In Rainbows, A Moon Shaped Pool, and OK Computer are right behind.

17 and 1. Amnesiac 2. In Rainbows 3. The Bends 4. OK Computer 5. KID A 6. Hail To The Thief 7. A Moon Shaped Pool 8. The King of Limbs 9. Pablo Honey

CUM_AT_ME_BRAH

It’s more accessible, an easier listen, more radio friendly ect. It makes sense that it would be more people’s favorites. The argument if it is a BETTER album is one entirely different from it being everyone’s favorite. FWIW, it’s my favorite as well, but more likely because I was 15 when it came out and it just hit that groove of attraction you get to things that really worms into your brain during your formative years.

BrintsleyPetersons

I think it's underselling the album a lot to say In Rainbows is a favorite simply because it's accessible. The album is heartbreakingly, profoundly, beautiful.

CUM_AT_ME_BRAH

I think it is an incredible album and I absolutely adore it, but being more accessible doesn’t mean worse in this case. It’s just widely agreed upon as an easier listen. Easier listen + absurdly fantastic album = more favorites, harder listen + absurdly fantastic album = less favorites

ReusableCatMilk

I, too, like radiohead

kmdallday

Only reason I’m more partial towards In Rainbows is because I first started listening to Radiohead in 2008, when it was their most accessible album to me. If I had started listening during a different time I’m sure it’d be different.

Musehobo

Only way I agree with this, and I kind of do, is because I consider IR Disc 2 as part of the first. Down is the New Up, 4 Minute Warning, and Last Flowers are amazing.

RaoulDuke44

More accessible than OK Computer? That album put Radiohead on the map and is still their most popular and highest selling album to date by far. Not to mention you only ever hear Karma Police or Paranoid Android on the radio, both of which are off of OK.

capbassboi

In Rainbows definitely seems to be the most popular online from my experience, though Kid A is clearly the best

[deleted]

19 and Kid A has been my all time favorite album since I was 13

short_story_long_

Yeah, I'm just not sure how we can say that it's better than OK Computer. I can understand the subjective argument about the music, but lyrically and thematically it's hard to argue against OK Computer, in my opinion. I guess the debate itself is a bit of the fun.

Kevundoe

Every time I argue that an album is better than an other I get curious and end up listening to the “losing” album for weeks afterwards... last time I argued against TKOL, I rediscovered how great it is... Radiohead is playing tricks on me

merijn2

The last couple of years. In the beginning very few people saw it on the same plane as OKC or Kid A. The argument for In Rainbows in my opinion is that it is incredibly well-made. A few days ago, when Kenny Rogers died, people shared a quote by him saying that you have to do either something a lot of people do, but only better, or do something completely different from everybody else so there is no one you can be compared to do. In Rainbows in my opinion is a Radiohead's prime example of the former way of excelling.

sanfran47

That’s the perfect way to describe it. Thank you for finding the words.

Hooskerdoo

Right? Wondering the same thing...

For me, 1. Kid A 2. In Rainbows 3. OK Computer 4. Amnesiac 5. Hail To The Thief 6. The King Of Limbs 7. The Bends 8. A Moon Shaped Pool 9. Pablo Honey

[deleted]

Holy shit the Bends above AMSP!! That's harsh bro. Kid A is awesome though no disagreement.

lord_fairfax

The Bends is one of the best raw alternative rock albums of all time.

crichmond77

I feel like having TKOL above The Bends and AMSP is the "harsh" part, if anything. Since when does anyone question whether The Bends is great? That's when Radiohead started being Radiohead.

JRDN7

I just had a look at the track list for AMSP, I think I’ve changed my mind haha. Maybe it’s been too long since I’ve put it on. I noticed a couple of tracks from it in Ozark S3 and was thinking I need to give it a re-listen soon.

[deleted]

Yup. Decks Dark, Present Tense and Daydreaming are all great. The album flow is a bit odd, not in a bad way.

yuigahamasan

Agree with literally all this except AMSP is like 5 places too low.

mrmustard12

Pretty tight

S_090o99

*your opinion

boatyKappa

You just opened a can of worms here..

wlkingshdow

Reading these comments, I had no idea I was so alone in my favourites. To me, top three would be AMSP, Amnesiac and Kid A and I honestly don’t even really understand what is it about OK Computer that people love so much.

caitsith01

How old are you? I was 16 when OK Computer came out and it's hard to explain how fundamentally that album changed the way music sounded. But in 2020 it doesn't sound as revolutionary because it basically inspired half the alternative/indie music of the next couple of decades.

generaldair

1. In Rainbows (my second favorite album of all time) 2. OK Computer (my third or fourth favorite album of all time) 3. Hail to the Thief 4. Kid A 5. AMSP 6. The Bends 7. Amnesiac 8. TKOL 9. is there another one?

[deleted]

Very close to mine also: Ok Computer -> In Rainbows -> Hail To The Thief -> Kid A -> A Moon Shaped Pool -> Amnesiac -> The Bends -> The King Of Limbs --------------> PH

generaldair

Very much respect that list (finally I can find some people that like HttT more than Kid A, people usually hate me for that lol)

[deleted]

As an album, I think Kid A is better, but I still like HTTT more cause I like the songs more

generaldair

I do think Kid A is more cohesive, but the songwriting on HttT is better. (Basically what you just said lol)

[deleted]

I like a lot of stuff off In Rainbows but it’s nowhere near as interesting musically as Kid A or as interesting thematically as OK Computer

TheLonesomeBiscuit

Yeah but I think the point of in rainbows was to simplify the emotional potency of Radiohead in its most raw and exposed form without all the otherworldly sounds of kid a and okc.

SelfconsciousAndroid

I’m 50, and I’ve bought every album when it was released. OK Computer - in my opinion- remains the absolute gold standard for any album by any artist. To be 100% honest, I love every album. 1. OK Computer (the pinnacle of all music, IMO) 2. The King of Limbs (I hear ya, but it’s my list!) 3. In Rainbows (unbelievable collection of songs, but not the “album” that OKC is) 4/5. Kid A/Amnesiac (I consider these to be one album) 6. Hail to the Thief 7. The Bends 8. A Moon Shaped Pool (still growing on me as an album; Ful Stop is one of my favorite tracks ever!) 9. Pablo Honey (I was there when Creep came out. You could tell right then that these guys were different. You, the first track, still rocks!)

HubristicSquid

I really like that you're counting Kid A and Amnesiac as one album! They were recorded together and I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be released together. The sound and tone of each of them both is so beautiful!

dead_cell

TKOL... Probably one of the best opening tracks to an album. Whenever I hear Bloom, straight up takes me to another world.

SelfconsciousAndroid

No doubt. And the way it glides into Magpie, then shifts to Little by Little is sonic genius. The highs and lows of the entire set speak to me in a way only OKC can approach. I consider this album to be OKC after it had to get a job and pay bills.

superwildejellyfish

That’s my exact ordering of my top 3, what.

junkimchi

This is everyone's (incorrect) order these days

In rainbows is 4th at best.

Rydiohead

Is In Rainbows really that good? I been a Radiohead fan for over 20 years.

TheFrostedOaf

Yes. It is

dakrust64

yes it is ive seen breaking bad 3 times

rezjeck

It's my favorite album. So dynamic, so many different sounds between songs, Videotape is one of my top songs too.

Rydiohead

Oh ok right on. I am huge fan of Nude/ All I need on that ablum thanks for Videotape all look into it.

Rydiohead

Also "House of Cards"

moonpotatoes

It’s good but is it better than OKC? Some argue that In Rainbows is a throwback to OKC.

TheGuero

I've noticed that In Rainbows trends higher with the younger folks. At the risk of sounding like an old man, I think they don't understand what made Ok Computer so special for it's time. Context is important after all. Personally, In Rainbows is my #4.

moonpotatoes

I really like In Rainbows but for me it’s either 3 or 4 depending on when you ask. Also at risk of sounding like an old man, I got to see them test out In Rainbows songs at Bonnaroo. Still my favorite show of all time, hands down.

chillbumps5

you've been a radiohead for over 20 years and you're asking if in rainbows is that good. why?

clockwars

OK is still my fav

fat_over_lean

It's a good album but I think it brought in a very different crowd who prefer the more laid back Radiohead. Lots of younger people who got it for free, and In Rainbows was on repeat with college radio. Radiohead weren't really generating any new younger fans with Kid A, Amnesiac, or HTTT. Before In Rainbows most Radiohead fans were older and OKC/Kid A was all anyone fought about.

thequietthingsthat

After many years of scientific testing: 1. OKC 2. Kid A 3. In Rainbows 4. Amnesiac 5. AMSP 6. The Bends 7. HTTT 8. TKOL 9. Pablo

Globuseuropa

I honestly enjoy amsp much more listening through than kid a. I can understand contextually why it was such an important album in their discography but I just think it's not in their top 3
