Is it worth installing Oxygen OS 11 on 6T?

Is it worth installing Oxygen OS 11 on 6T?

Jathinreddy09

I installed right away after the open beta came out and had an issue with camera in the first beta, but they fixed it. I don't see any problem with my phone, working perfectly fine like it was in Android 10

rohidroid

Better than A10. No more random laggy UI.

Ragamffin

For me it's some times laggy, like when I'm trying to see all open apps. The screen will freeze. I had the phone freeze yesterday when I tried to open camera with gestures. Took like 5 mins for the office to unlock. Small things like this

Jathinreddy09

These things were used happen in previous versions too, it's not a software version issue. It's just how phones are made, sometimes they may not handle the usage and it has nothing to do with Android 11

Ragamffin

Ahh ok. I wasn't sure. It seemed like the phone all of a sudden couldn't handle all the flashy new animations

devraj9999

Ohh that's nice I might give it a try

MrMadanx

Did you use the Oxygen updater? I'm still on the fence about using it to upgrade my OS so just wanted to know

Jathinreddy09

I didn't use the oxygen updater, i installed it manually. Although both are same, oxygen updater just downloads the file without you searching for it and downloading. It's not a big deal how you are installing it as long as both are same update versions

MrMadanx

Ah okay. Thanks!

OP6 here. Updated to 11. Didn't even factory reset, even though it's recommended. I see nothing wrong with the phone. \- Update went fine. You're expected to have your battery draining a bit heavier on the first couple of days, the phone will be doing a lot on the background. This isn't something specific to this update, it's usual on every major android update regardless of brand. \- After those couple of days i'm getting 1 day and a half of battery (1 day and 11 hours, last time i charged, still had about 9% battery), same as it was before the update. Phone is over 2 years old and still lasts almost 2 days, can't complain, especially since it charges really fast anyway. On that note, i really like the new charging animation. \- The above happens and I'm a heavyish user. It has 2 sim cards (personal and work), it always has internet either wifi or mobile data, use bluetooth every day, lots of calls, texts, messenger, whatsapp, youtube, discord and a lot of other applications that are constantly pinging the internet or sending/recieving data. I use it a lot for work. However, i do not play any games, i really dislike the mobile gaming experience for lots of reasons. \- All the above plus 18322 sms stored, a call log of 3058 calls and from the 64Gb of space i have about 9 free, right now. The phone is not sluggish at all. It's fast and snappy as it always was. \- I really like the new design. Makes the phone feel fresh again, even if pretty much everything is where it always was. Feels clean and organized. This is subjective, it's personal taste, of course. \- I don't have root enabled anymore but i haven't for a while now. It would be handy sometimes but the hassle isn't worth it anymore. Bootloader is still unlocked because i can't be arsed to factory reset just to relock it. \- i do not like it how oneplus dedicates a whole cathegory just to ask you to sign in to a oneplus account every time i open settings but that's something you can remove with adb and it's pretty ignorable anyway. \- i REALLY like how every media notification now lets you chose where audio output is and will happen on the notification itself. \- I'm not a huge fan of the new network icons but it's quick to get used to. \- brightness slider seems to take slightly more to respond manually. Plenty of people seem to complain the auto brightness doesn't work well. I don't share of that experience, mine's perfect and the brightness it sets seems good to my eyes. \- camera isn't better or worse. It's what is always was and i never had any complaints, i always liked it. I did find out an option that allows it to read QR codes now, it comes disabled by default for some reason. I don't know if it was there on 10 already but i had google lens installed specifically for this, i don't need it anymore now. That's it. Phone doesn't feel slower, sluggish or battery lasts any less. I'd go for it and if there's any issue, factory reset it.

sebbby98

Camera had QR code reading feature on 10.

tenicoPT

I have the Op6 with the beta , and im really liking , dont have a aspect to point. I did root again flashing back the boot.img embedded with magisk.

saur4v

Which app did you use to backup your 'Call Logs' and 'SMS Messages'

kaynpayn

It's called SMS Backup & Restore It's free from the PlayStore

Schavlik

Everything is fine for me on 11 except that my battery has been worse. I'd estimate by a whole hour of screen on

Saad_mak

if you're going to use it as a daily driver, I highly recommend you factory reset after updating to ensure minimal bugs, I've been using the open betas the very day they came out (currently on open beta 3) and it works great for a daily driver.

abc7887

Everything is working great for me on A11. Only 1 issue. I am not receiving any updates on Gmail until I manually open the app

lambeosaura

Yeah, even I am a little concerned, but by and large people seem to be having a decent experience with it. Main reason why I'm worried though is battery life... my battery health is at 80% and I don't want it to be ruined further.

Jathinreddy09

My battery health was 80 before the update and also it's the same. No battery issues for me

bjorg18

Did you factory reset?

Jathinreddy09

In the beginning I didn't, but after a couple of weeks later i did because my storage was almost full

bjorg18

Okay. Is there any chance you noticed a battery degradation after upgrading to Android 11 but soon after factory resetting the device it was back to previous levels?

Jathinreddy09

No not anything like that. Got the same before updating and after updating till now.

bjorg18

Okay. Thank you very much.

bjorg18

My battery health dropped to 69% from 75% after upgrading to OOS 11. Is this because of upgrading?

lambeosaura

Not sure honestly.

devraj9999

How do I check battery health?

lambeosaura

Here, download any 1.x version of this app from [this link](https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/oneplus-ltd/oneplus-diagnostic/), and there must be a screen which shows that.

devraj9999

I installed it but it's not coming in my app list

lambeosaura

that's very odd, i had no issues.

professorpeaky

It happened to me too. Install a very old version

goalie2002

For me it was. Fixed all the bugs i had in OOS10 (like the infamous frame rate drops), and has some nice features. So far the only bug i encountered was that is broke my APN settings for mobile data (seems to only happen for Telus and koodo though), but that was easily fixable.

vangmay231

Were you frame drops inn animations in A10? That's why I updated, it was very irritating to see even Whatsapp lag

EvilDan69

Yes that happened to me. I'm on Telus. Everything works well now though. I used the trick of going into the sim and network settings, digging into the telus APN, removing the sim tray, putting it back in and racing back in as fast as I could, then I saw a plus, clicked on it super quick and was able to manually input the few Telus APN settings required. Beyond that everything works well!

brucylefleur

Oh snap! Good find!

nothjarnan

for me the frame rate drops got so bad I rooted and installed pixel experience instead, and of course the day after OOS11 drops fml

akshay123478

If you are a beta tester then u wud have been used to the bugs and quirks the beta version has.... android 11 is quite an upgrade u get quite a lot of variety of new features..than 10..but it also has..some issues..(which they are fixing by software updates,) like the screen frames reduces to 30fps sometimes, heating issues, battery drains faster..and stuff..but over all its quite good experience. Than android 10. U cud update once the stable version cms out..if u dont want the beta version

vangmay231

Mostly pretty good experience for me. Gmail notifications are delayed, and a couple of other tiny issues. But my phone was lagging on A10 so I got impatient and used Oxygen updater and that lag is almost completely gone. I like the look too but that's a preference thing

CheekyLeo

I am happy with it afer some initial setup needed. What I dislike is that Google Photos asks for permission for every move and I don't know any way of how to elevate GPhotos permissions. (I also posted about this yesterday)

deltapapaoscar

Glad you mentioned this. Thought it was just mine. It's annoying having to confirm everytime I delete a picture.

CheekyLeo

Yeah I agree, if you find a fix please let me know!

Comforse

I installed it and I can tell you it got a lot faster. Also, the fingerprint reader is faster too. So far, I've had 0 issues with it since installing a week ago.

spectorprophet

Don't know how it's everything in 6T... But in my OP6 everything it's working properly and with no problems at all since 1st OB. Maybe I'm the luckiest OP user ever 🤣🤣

phaemoor

Anybody any experience with Android Auto? I heard that 11 broke it for a lot of people.

partytime71

Android auto keeps unexpectedly launching for me. I don't even have android auto in my car, but have it on my phone for when I drive my girlfriend's car.

phaemoor

I'm talking about not launching at all... https://www.autoevolution.com/news/android-update-blamed-for-new-android-auto-struggle-166958.html

avrus

Install it on my Oneplus 6, my battery life instantly improved like back when I first had my phone. The difference is astounding.

inventor121

Battery life is slightly worse imo but not awful. Still gets me through the day just fine but with probably 5-10% less at the end of the day. UI is snappy and no longer has random lag. Overall I'd say it's worth it.

devraj9999

Oh okay. It didn't even give me the open option after installing. Some issue with my device only

professorpeaky

It happened to me too. Install a very old version

realbrew

If you are rooted and using the phone recording module in Magisk, be aware that it no longer works due to a change in how Android checks whether recording is legal in your location. No work around as of yet.

bjorg18

Apart from Google account sync issues (Gmail notifications not showing up, Google Fit data not syncing) everything is almost bug free and working fine. But the issues mentioned above has more to do OOS 11 rather than a OnePlus 6 specific problem. I have seen people complaining about these issues with other OnePlus devices having OOS 11.

rasmus-pr

In my opinion it's not better and not worse

Adiker

It's fine but custom ROMs on 11 are still better IMO.

gerrydutch

Its ok, but i liked 10 better

sebbby98

Just updated yeterday. Probably my worst update experience yet. Mainly cause I was out and the update didn't have the APN settings for Koodo and it took me forever to figure out how to fix that. But once I got data working again, it's been great. I had been having issues when connecting to wifi networks previously but that seems to have been fixed. Also, battery life seems to be better for me so far - it's only been 24 hours so I really don't know.

LymeM

I installed the release version of os 11, it works well and smooth.

double_reedditor

No issues here, go for it

funnyname68

Absolutely fuckin not

zer0-se7en

Android 11 is okay. Also design-wise. Not really a bad update. Android 10 is better ofcourse coz it already finished its final stage so it's more stable. Few more Android 11 updates then this will be as perfect as Android 10.
