Hi, guys! Long time no post. I started playing around with designing stuff again a little while ago after close to a year off. This particular pattern/technique came about because I was kind of bored with almost every beaded accessory pattern out there, or thought that the style was a little too femme-y for my tastes. Honestly, the process for this isn't very different from beading things normally. I used size 8/0 beads and a 0.75mm crochet hook to place them. The yarns I used for this are [Malabrigo Sock](https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/malabrigo-yarn-sock) in Water Green for the MC and [madtosh Tosh Sock](https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/madelinetosh-tosh-sock) in Ceremony for the CC. Pattern is by me, as stated, and not available for purchase right now. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have!

I misread the title so it looked like you learned how to add BEASTS to your knitting! I see now that it’s BEADS and i’m still impressed. Well done :)

A little of column A, a little of column B. ;) Thank you!

I love that you've used a contrasting color to add to the colorwork - I've never thought of using beads that way, and I think i might actually try beads for the first time because of it! Absolutely beautiful.

I'm playing with the idea of adding beads instead of a second or third color for sweaters and socks. I have a design in mind already involving two colors of beads, but no stranding, for a large-scale motif on a sweater. If you decide to play around with beads, remember that they'll add some weight to the finished object. It's not much for something like these mitts (I think they have something like 100 beads per hand), but the sweater will have about 3 oz/85 g worth of beads added to the front.

parmparmparm

holy shit, that's beautiful

Thank you!

Absolutely love it! Very cool proof of concept. I so rarely see beads worked in a contrasting color and it really just is such a stunning effect. And I feel you soooo hard on the preponderance of femme styled patterns 😩 I'm slowly starting some of my own designs too, so I'm trying to build up my network of like minded designers. I'm athenaknitworks over on ig, I'll give you a follow!

\^waves\^ I id as nonbinary, and I'd like to think I bring that perspective into my design work. My stuff is meant to be worn by me, first and foremost, which means my tastes are front and center (vs designing stuff that may be more commercially viable). I also want to play with materials and techniques that might be read as more traditionally femme and put my own spin on them.

athenaknitworks

Woo-hoo, queer knitters unite! I'm butch and I'm hoping to do the same with my designing. I'm honestly tired of the endless deluge of similar designs that emphasize traditionally feminine presentation!

hoattzin

Ohhhh that’s such a cool effect! The contrast between the colors, avoiding doing 3-stranded or dup stitch…so cool! Is the design referencing anything in particular or is it just cool?

I like learning about medieval heraldry and illuminations, so this is kind of my take on a royal crest. The front of the mitts would be the emblem, while the palms have a pattern that's slightly reminiscent of moorish tile in a similar shield shape. As such, my rough title for these is the Wolf King mitts.

...what does the other side look like? Also welcome back! <3

Rav link to my (extremely bare) project page that shows the back: [https://www.ravelry.com/projects/cthulhulovesme/wolf-king-mitts](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/cthulhulovesme/wolf-king-mitts) And I'm glad to be back! I kind of stepped away from knitting (and, uh, socializing with anyone, and healthy coping skills) due to some emotional cycling. I finally feel ready to "hang out" with friends again, so I'm back to reading/posting on Reddit and IG again. :)

Totally understand. Put your oxygen mask on before assisting others. <3
