"Hey mom! This painting in our new house is a deepfake!"
You know why this is weird? And the internet is weird? It reminds me of Hitler singing TV Killed the Radio Star. That's why the internet is weird.
> TV Killed the Radio Star
**Video** Killed the Radio Star
I clicked multiple times on Video thinking it would be a link to the actual video. I may not be very smart
[Here you go!](https://youtu.be/-DysigzGQvU)
I actually think this is amazing. My grandma had old tiny black and white pictures of family members from like 1910 that I would stare at for hours as a kid (I’m 45). I would sit and try to imagine them alive. This is just cool as hell to me.
Same. I have some fucking cool pictures of my family from the early to mid 1900's. I'd actually love to see them animate. https://imgur.com/MerfFYB.jpg
Edit: what an absolutely amazing gift you all have given me. Seeing my family "alive" is much more profound than I thought. 🥰 You all made this girl so happy. Thank you.
Edit 2: [More pictures.](https://imgur.com/a/Nqstk71)
[Here you go](https://imgur.com/a/4TUpJJV)! I have a subscription to myheritage.com and this is a new feature available there
Holy shit. That gave me such a sense of "the future is NOW".
Gave me a sense of "Harry Potter magic is ***real?!***"
Yeah...this is almost too much for my brain to comprehend. I'm only in my 30s and this is the first time technology has ever straight up felt like witchcraft to me.
buckle up buttercup, it's only just begun.
I have been scanning some old photos for the family tree recently and I can't wait to surprise my grandmaw with her parents and grandparents.
Swap out the old frame with a video one, don't tell anyone, sit back with the remote, and enjoy the show!
you nailed it especially the boy with the hat on
The dude in the hat looks so... natural. Damn.
I’m sitting here thinking about my dad’s pic and I just don’t think I could do it.
The second one seems like it's not... Optimal for this process haha
that's creepy and awesome
You don’t need a subscription, works on the free account also :)
Much better than I expected
I have a feeling they experimented with these animated photos "making eye contact" and it was probably fucking scary as shit.
Take my gold for this awesome kind gesture. It’s people like you and The little things that are done like this for complete strangers that restore my faith in humanity
I colorized those pictures for you. https://i.imgur.com/6uA5NLO.jpg
That bomber one is dope
These are wonderful.
My grandma died 9 years ago and my mom - who was extremely close to her mom and unfortunately had to live across the world from her for more than half her life - took her death extremely hard. Every year we honor my bunica's memory by eating ice cream (her favorite) and remiscing about our favorite memories of her. My mom still cries regularly when talking about her mom, it's heartbreaking, like a piece of her soul died when bunica died.
We never got any videos of my bunica. I want to use this technology to animate some of the photos of her for my mom, I think it would bring her some small amount of joy to see her mom "moving" again like that. I know it's a little bit creepy but imo it's incredible as well and I hope my mom feels the same way.
I have a pic of my great grandma as a toddler, with her parents and grandfather (so my great great great grandpa). This program would be so dope for that pic.
I'm having a hard time trying to decide if this amazing or creepy.
I would pay a good amount of money to see my dad's face move again.
There are a few apps you can download.
I am on android and use "Remini" to enhance the pictures, especially if they're older and blurred.
"Colorize" to, well, add color if they're black and white pics.
And "Muglife" to add slight facial movement.
But please do keep in mind, it's just all artificial and probably will not 100% resemble the person.
> But please do keep in mind, it's just all artificial and probably will not 100% resemble the person.
Thank you, Donny.
Shut the fuck up Donny.
I am the walrus.
Shut the fuck up, Donny! V.I. Lenin. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov!
Is this your homework, Larry?
Do you see what happens, Larry?
in accordance with what his final wishes may well have been, we will reanimate his face. Goodnight sweet prince
Your phone's ringing, Dude
Phone’s ringing dude.
Thank you a lot, i just fixed an old picture of my grandfather and he looks amazing, this is beautiful.
I hope you have a great day because my grandma will be really happy when I show her!
All I can do to thank you is to give you my free award, so take it as a sign of sincere gratitude.
Hey not sure if you'll see this, but your comment led me to try Remini and you may think it's a small thing but it made a difference in a lot of lives.
My grandfather passed away last year around this time and, well long story short I was able to clean up and colorize a few photos of him and his mother, him and my dad, etc. And I sent them to my grandma who survived him and my estranged dad and their side of the family (aunt, cousin).
I last saw him in 2008, in Bulgaria. We spoke on the phone since but I never made it out there. It's not easy thinking about it. My parents divorced because of my dad, he made a lot of mistakes and never really seemed to change. So I just kind of moved on but my grandfather and I were always close, when we had time together. I regret not keeping in touch with him more because of my dad's mistakes.
But anyways I'm rambling. I think for my grandma and dad it made an impact to see those pictures come to life in color. Thank you!
I love how no matter how different you and I are as individuals, we both understand fully the feeling of love and loss.
We may be completely different people but I love you in the sense that we connect on this.
What a unifying thing hey. I hope you're feeling better. Time helps. I love you friend. Fellow human
So so many people are missing the point of this. I would pay similarly good amounts to see my mom again. Her loss was so damn...sudden. I and I'm sure you fully understand it's not them. That's...obvious. How they are missing that that's obvious I don't understand. It's just....like therapy in a way.
Like what is the point of a picture itself? It's not them. It's a capture of the light that represents them. Still nice though.
I cant believe people figure it makes sense to type " it's not you're actual parent"
No absoulte shit..... it would just be somewhat comforting.....
Like no shit...
Like yeah...the funeral definitely drove that point home I'm fairly certain I get it haha
People just like to see themselves talk on here. To feel clever or informative. But really they just want to see themselves talk.
Shut up and keep digging.
[That made me snarf.](https://reactiongifs.me/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mr_chang_senor_chang_laugh_spits_milk.gif)
Me too. My dad died when I was 11.
It's already free. Reface app.
C'mon muggles, this is obviously a wizard portrait.
Came here for this.. bring on the moving pictures, magazines, newspapers, etc
Cramizing is such a cromulent word
But it has the potential to embiggin all of us.
Stop trying to make cromulent happen, Gretchen!
It is both bad and wrong...it is BADONG
Someone should make an app does the opposite of this. They should call it GNODAB.
Yes! Killing is BADONG
The tiny net, it is a death sentence!
Both for me. We lost a few older members of the family to covid the past year, I think my ma would love having something like this of grandparents in their younger days.
Correct, History Channel does not need more videos of Hitler.
It's Harry Potter.
Really? What could be considered creepy about reanimating dead bodies?
Well since its a picture and not a corpse....
First the pictures and then the corpse's
A corpse says a 1000 words.. Oh wait.
Exactly, that’s why my favourite romance author is Mary Shelly
Me too. I kinda love it and hate it at the same time
So I made a free account and uploaded my dad's photo who died out of nowhere 4 years ago, going in with zero expectations and kinda expecting a shitty "free version" of it where it makes you pay for a better version.
I uploaded one of the 2 photos I had of him and hit go.
It took the wind out of me to see him moving just like as if we were facetiming. It was different than watching a normal video of him, where you feel like the onlooker to a scene, recorded in memory forever. This felt like he was right on the other end of that video call, looking at me for real. So, try it, but prepare yourself.
I did my grandparents (plus, great and great great)! You described my feelings exactly. My heart hurts you lost your dad, I hope this app brings you some peace.
i still have weekly nightmares that he's still alive but just *doesn't want to be my dad anymore* but all in all, besides that, it forced me to grow up since he was such a sheltering helicopter parent. then, poof, he was gone and i was sole beneficiary/executor and had a lot of life lessons i had to learn real fast.
it turned my life around honestly. but holy shit do i still wish it never happened. overdoses from family members you weren't aware had a problem really sucks.
edited to add: yeah it definitely mades me wanna find any old photos of anyone that's passed and do it! it's really helpful for closure in a weird way.
This is what I wanted to try it for .. but I feel like I'll have a breakdown
My grampa, who I was closer with than my parents, passed away in the 2nd of January, I miss him dearly and live in his house with all his old black and white photos, so I'll be trying this for sure.
If you feel like the process is too heavy for you but still want to see the result, I would be happy to try to do it for you if you provide the photos.
Edit: I've tried it, first photo was +/-, second one almost made me tear up.
Dame da ne
Dame na no yo
dore da ke
tsuyoi osake de mo
yugamanai omoide ga
i've always wanted to see my grandpappy sing a japanese song
Can someone explain
LMAO i was not expecting that shit
It's actually the same ai thats doing it too
Fucking beat me to it lmao
First thing I thought about
[You need to see this.](https://youtu.be/PJxz4VYzKwE)
I feel a combination of “This is everything I’ve been looking for, I can die in peace now” and “Only death can cleanse my mind of this horror”
So can LSD
You know, it’s been several months. I may have to take a tab for breakfast tomorrow. I’ll set up a beach chair in front of my shower curtain and watch the show.
I like laying on my back and staring at the ceiling.
Ive got a picture of a beach sunset on my shower curtain. I always wind up sitting in front of it when I trip. It’s nice to watch the waves crash in.
Damn. I need to try LSD.
These are probably the types of thoughts I shouldn't be having lmao.
If there's any drug you're going to try, it's probably one of the safest.
Much safer than alcohol anyway.
LSD was advocated for by Bill W, one of the founders of AA, as a potential cure for alcoholism along with AA which was meant to be the support to get your life back together.
I can attest that LSD basically cured my drinking and addictive personality almost entirely.
I’m not suggesting anyone go out and try it to stop drinking but...if you get a chance, I truly, 100% believe it works. And there’s scientific evidence that would agree:
LSD Administered as a Single Dose Reduces Alcohol Consumption in C57BL/6J Mice
Even in the 1950’s-70’s they were studying this: https://maps.org/research-archive/w3pb/2005/2005_Dyck_22866_1.pdf
Over a year with no desire to drink at all after 2-3 LSD trips in the proper setting. It helped me really be able to dig down and find the root causes of my addiction.
“We gave alcoholic mice LSD” is just amazing.
scientist: "I wanna make some wino mice trip balls."
ethics board: "Eh, fuck it, why not!?"
I'm not saying go out and take a bunch of LSD, but I am certain LSD fixed my life. Put down the booze and got my happiness in order, and success followed. However, I've seen people respond poorly to the drug. It matters what the user's goals are, I think.
I had the twelve steps and acceptance and the promises figured out before ever reading them. Tripping showed me the way, I got sober, then I went to AA and was thinking, "Yeah, that's exactly how I live." If it weren't for LSD, I'd have not even become open to the idea of walking in to a group like that.
I have not felt depressed in years. I have not felt trapped by existing. I have recalled the profound lessons I learned about how I perceive life and prioritize things, and I have not suffered grief for a very long time. Call it a spiritual awakening, or call it an attitude adjustment, or call it a high. Whatever it is, it is exactly what I needed. I faced myself and said, "There goes a junked out loser. Get your shit together, you worthless fuck." And so I did.
I'm not gonna walk into an AA meeting and say that, though. Lol.
Psychedelics in general are medical miracles for many things
I advocate it but everyone is different. Hang out in r/LSD for a bit. People will be happy to give you advice.
Yeah but will anyone give me... LSD? That seems to be the difficult part.
I had a tab once. Even with a pretty ideal setting it just made me feel really anxious and self conscious. Basically felt like the bad parts of weed but amplified. For me shrooms work much better.
Be careful!! Don’t do anything weird!!
Pffff... Says the angry cat in a box. Or is he?
No joke, LSD really does make pictures move and is a truly amazing, life changing experience that’s almost indescribable when done in the right setting.
Going to the art museum is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had.
My new bucket list goal: visit an art museum on acid
Scrolling through my music library and watching my favorite albums move is hands down one of
My favorite things to do when on acid.
I’ll take “Creepy As Fuck” for $1000, Alex.
Getting Harry Potter moving picture vibes. I’ll allow it.
Can they do this with tattoos?
One of the things that really sold me on the iPhone was the native / automatic Live Photo. It’s literally some Harry Potter level shit. Imagine someone your love dearly passing away, and then finding out Apple has been asking video footage of them when you thought it was just a picture.
I know Android does the same thing these days, at least some of them. But damn if it doesn’t seem like magik if you didn’t even know it was a thing before.
Yeah lol my mom was floored when she found out her pictures were actually videos!
I was thinking the same!
I also thought this!
Nope, just nope
*True Daily Double*
I'll take "you're a wizard" for $1000, Harry
No way. Not creepy! As a genealogy nerd, I’d love to see this done to images of my ancestors. It makes them seem much more like real people than historical figures. 100% love this technology!
My mom's mom died when she was a baby. I'd love to give her something that looks like her mom smiles at her.
Oh no Alex 🥺
I will also take, “Awww, Fuck No!” for $2000, Ken or whoever is hosting this week.
Definitely uncanny valley
I’ll take, “Harry Potter Newspaper for $200.”
Right? It's not their mannerism... it's artificial... soulless
Edit: Imagine an AI improvising the movements of a loved one... or you... and it's some fuck stick like Zuckerberg behind the tech... fuck that shit.
Don't worry someone else is developing an algorithm that will judge uncanny valley levels and use it as an adversarial element in the next iteration of this algorithm.
The rate AI is developing is exceedingly impressive. I highly suggest the Youtube Channel "Two Minute Papers". It covers a lot of white papers and research that comes out about AI and ML algorithms (as well as other algorithms).
The advancements are astonishing and I have a feeling in a couple years we will get to that cyberpunk dystopia of having boomer era stars hocking goods as if they were real in UHD 4k.
That was my thought, it would be nice if you could get the movements right but everyone has their own particular head tilt and blink. This comes off as robotic. That said, still very cool technology!
Muggles are starting to finally catch up.
Why did I have to scroll so far down to find this? Literally the first thing that came to mind.
I'm utterly disappointed as well.
Call the Daily Prophet!
On a scale of 1(this can be used to help humanity) to 10(this will be used for cursed purposes) I’m going to say this is a BIG #10
I made a "deep nostalgia" video of my grandfather, who passed away a long time ago. It made my mom so happy to see him "in motion" again. This technology may be a net negative in the future, but for me today, it was a big win.
That’s cool for sure, I feel like this tech only related to older people mostly. I mean 2 generations under us will just be able to rewatch our vlogs or something.
People will be paying people to "turn your grandparents old 2D vlogs into 4D holograms for only 1200 *Malawian Kwacha!"
* *Yes, Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world in regards to GDP, but just you wait. The next century will belong to them*
So invest in Malawian Kwachi?! 🚀🚀🚀🚀💎🤷💎
How do you make one? In curious to do it myself, id love to see my grandfather in motion again, he died 30 years ago, and i miss him a lot.
I mean it's gonna be both. This will be awesome for stuff like museums, but I also guarantee this is gonna get lewd quick.
It took -0.000005 seconds for deepfake porn to be made, so I'm going to say this is a true statement.
Damn, scrolling down to the photo of the man. It looks so much more realistic. This is scary technology.
I tried it on a photo of myself and another one of my dead grandma. Now I am scared of turning the light off.
This is pretty awesome, I used it to animate a photo of my Grandfather who I never met (died when my mom was only 17). I had colored it using a different AI, this photo was originally only black and white. Showed it to my mom and she started crying.....
I have the exact same situation but I'm hesitant to show it to my mom, she was 15 then, how's your mom now? What kind of cry did she go through? The last thing I want is to make her sad
It was definitely a happy cry, she was just astonished to see it in motion. This photo is actually from before she was even born
This is really cool but you can only do the free trial after giving them payment information. I have a hard time trusting these kinds of offers. They almost always grab at least one payment from you before you get the chance to decline. It costs $195.00 CAD per year.
There are countless sites online that will give you a legit card number that you can use for free trials. Privacy App
Would you mind naming a few?
Username checks out
Omg bless you
I'm using the MyHeritage app now and just did a photo - it doesn't ask any payment info. Apparently I can only do 5 free photos though
>This is really cool but you can only do the free trial after giving them payment information. I have a hard time trusting these kinds of offers. They almost always grab at least one payment from you before you get the chance to decline. It costs $195.00 CAD per year.
Fuck it I'll do it myself. We'll do it live!
^(dame da ne)
Why pay when you could do it for free with better privacy https://github.com/dunnousername/yanderifier
If you're gonna do it, make sure you use a closed mouth photo.
Awesome or Creepy?
Oh, look, there's the valley. How uncanny!
Don’t like that
Hogwarts portraits? Lol
Their scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn’t stop to think if they should.
[Did it to my great-great-grandfather](https://imgur.com/a/dCkqoZu), Russia, 1920s
I’ll animate my photos the old-fashioned way: **demons**.
Fucking. Creepy. As. Fuck.
I’m having fun reanimating paintings of the Hapsburgs.... [here](https://myhr.tg/1Hdud0Wb)
This really works well, I tried it on my uncles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DysigzGQvU&t=14s
I was going to comment: That’s great, but can she perform “Video Killed The Radio Star”?
Fuck you. I had to fill out a captcha test to see this shit lol
Came here for this. Please feel free to add Baka Mitai as well :)
*Baka Mitai intensifies*
I think the main problem is that the effect makes the head geometry seem to weirdly shift around, as if it’s Mystique and she’s too drunk to hold the shape consistently.
This is Black Mirror
"Do dooo, do do dooo, doo doo doo, dooo do do doo do dooo" *Harry Potter theme
Great. So I can watch my grandparents look restless while waiting for their photo to be taken.
But one could get up to some absolute fuckery with this service.
