Stronghold Crusader HD is really cool. It's tower defense, but you might like Exodus Borealis.
Empire Earth is what I thought of first. It's about 20~ yeras old now, very similar to AoE. Some more modern games you might want to look at: * Northgard * They Are Billions * Frozenheim * Age of Darkness * Diplomacy is Not an Option
