Back in the 90s my grandparents made the bread for the memorial so they took it back to their home when the ceremony ended.
Well they thought that tossing it in the trash would be disrespectful so we all ate it with dinner.
One year I gave a little piece to our dog and boy they got mad. And I was really confused: "you said after the memorial it was just regular bread what's the problem".
They got into short-circuit but I still got grounded.
The hypocrisy 🤦♀️
example that could work is when david and his men are the bread given to them by a levite.
if they reply it was david, well his men were not anointed.
the act of eating the bread is not actually important if people who follow the bible knew anything.
biblically speaking, mercy is more important than sacrifice.
but then again, religious nut jobs tend to stick their guns.
That shit’s hilarious....well what did you expect, you made the dog one of the 144,000 😳😬😁
We did that too. I was always confused how it lost its “sacredness” once we took it home and used it as chips. SMH
This is so crazy. I remember the brothers in the hall would eat it outside after the service and laughed that they were eating the body of Jesus 🤣 It was the Spanish kingdom hall so maybe they’re a little lax with it.
I grew up on the Spanish side in the 602 and if anything, they’re the more conservative out here
If someone throws good food in the trash over the GBs bs that is so disgusting and I would consider that "bringing reproach on you know who"
When I was a kid, we’d eat the bread AT the Kingdom Hall after the Memorial. It had no significance outside of the ceremony. Your mom is wrong, you haven’t committed the unforgivable sin yet.
Why though would she have her 15 yo daughter make “bread” for the single brothers? That made me cringe a little.
Her Mom: "Hey guys! She can cook!"
But she's 15 though
Gotta start early in the JW cult.... or the single men pool gets smaller and smaller
i knew plenty of people getting together by 16, with parent itching to make relationships for their kids in the most god fearing way possible. two people i know got married the second they turned 18. then they realized they actually liked sex more then they liked each other. they moved out of state, got divorced, left the faith and thats the last i heard.
Let me know if any of them moved out to AZ..I like sex too 😁
Not a lot of options in the Organization
I know of 15/16 y/os dating guys in their late teens/early twenties
I always find that to be really weird, like in highschool with freshman girls dating senior guys.
😂 ur mom is crazy. It’s Passover bread. Btw u can buy most Jewish matzah in most Kroger’s. Especially before Passover.
And buy cheap burgundy 🍷 wine.
The original Passover was a meal MEAnT to be eaten.
It's all just a Jdub specific superstition.
Kosher products "hit the shelves" all over the USA this time of year.
We've already dressed out a couple of sheep.
[And just the labor involved in that makes the "Exodus" narrative BS IMO]
I'm not Jewish but celebrating *Passover* dinner with friends.
Which are also (agnostic) athiests. It's just a cultural event. *Saint Patrick's Day* is at our house. 😆
In time you will get out of the Jdub "bubble world" and into a much more intresting world of cultural fusion.
Hang in there. It will be worth the wait when you can establish your financial independence and have your own home.
I literally can't wait 🙏
Welcome to DM me for recipes to eat well on a tight budget anytime.
But if it's helpful.... Ramen is a soup and noodle *base* not a whole meal.
Some inexpensive fresh veggies, canned tuna, and my personal favorite an egg cracked on top when it's a boiling temperature so the white cooks and the yoke is warm and smooth makes it a good meal.
I cooked alot of meats on a grill as a single guy just getting by. The cheapest ones got added to beans or a box of mac-n-cheese. Smoked meat adds a lot of flavor.
*We tend to be born into a disadvantage but can turn that around into a strength.*
Is basically the only thing we really need to know to be confident and successful.
Happy to know you found the exit from the cult too. 😊👍
You are literally so nice, thank you ❤️
I had quite the steak going of attending Passover dinners. Second year in a row of missing out now.
i reasoned already why the whole JW rank and file Memorial is a waste of time for even JWs themself:
Jesus never commanded to pass the bread, but to eat it. nowhere in the bible Jesus took out a big group of the passah dinner. when only anointed are meant to eat from the bread and drink from the wine, than only the anointed have to remember Jesus with the memorial. Rank and File could stay at home and do better things, since there is no command from JEsus that they have to pass the bread without eating it.
its just a meal and nothing more. nowhere Jesus told "you have to sit down and pass the bread, and oh some arent allowed to eat from it. dont put it in the bin and never feed the dog with this holy bread". its bread and wine and like the Bloodissue, the JWs focus so much on the symbol, rather than the meaning. its so absurd i cant get about the fact that it took me over 20 years to figure out how stupid even for JW doctrine the whole memorial session is.
Ask your mum why the sacrifice of Jesus is regarded as the most important in history when he was raised up back to perfect spirit creature 3 days later. Compared to another parent letting their child die permanently. See what she says
Exactly, it's not a sacrifice if nothing is lost.
That’s right. Especially when he’s existed forever and will live again forever. It’s not even close to a sacrifice. It’s pathetic
I could do better! 😂😂😂
It’s like a rich person living in poverty for a week and saying they know what it’s like
Exactly. Even 3 days. We have a thing here in Australia called CEO sleep out where high level executives live like homeless people for one night to raise money for homeless causes. That’s do literally harder than Jesus as he missed a micro fraction of time compared to his entire existence.
Do they wear a crown of thorns and get whipped while they’re at it...you Australians are kinky😉😂😂
Wow this is mind blowing. I hate I’ve never thought of this.
God offered himself on earth then for 30 something years went around praying to himself. When he was done with that he sacrificed himself (to himself of course) then raised himself back from the dead. Makes sense to me.
33 years on earth is literally a blip in time when you’ve existed forever as a spirit creature. That’s like Jeff Bezo bragging about giving a homeless man $30 bucks when is worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
Fucking thank you. Whenever I mention this, my dad tells me it's "too complicated to explain" lmao
I totally would, but I already know that she would ignore my question, and whoop my ass if I insisted 🤦♀️
It’s a legitimate question. If you get in trouble for that then I’m sorry for you. Enjoy your bread tomorrow 👍🏼
You Aussie’s are dangerous, how dare you ask Dick questions
Tell her it's not after sundown so she can chill. I ate the bread once, in the hall, after memorial to be funny. My dad would drink the leftover wine when we got home, it's all theatrics for the memorial. Hang in there! You did nothing wrong.
Only Catholics think the bread is literally the physical body of Christ. Your mum doesn’t even understand the basic JW doctrines. The bread and wine are EMBLEMS. Show her the dictionary if she can’t even understand the meaning of an emblem. And you didn’t eat it during the ceremony. I’m sorry you have such an unreasonable mum
Will try this one 😂
HAHAHAHA YESSS and if she has any nerve to say no you aren’t, tell her you feel the direct invitation from the almighty creator of the cosmos and he chose you specifically to partake tonight 😂
She would literally call an exorcist but I'm down to try 😂
Ik Ik 🙏
Even the dubs say it has no significance outside the ceremony. Mom needs to chill and maybe study a bit more.
Tell her you're anointed
Bruh, when I was a kid they let us eat the bread at the end of the memorial because there was a lot of us and it basically calmed us down after having to sit through a fetished death meeting. The next year, all the kids went up to ask for bread, and we were yelled at, YELLED AT, in the hall by some visiting suit for, and I quote, "you just ate Jesus' body and he can feel it!". I burst out laughing, I was that kid, and boy did I get smacked for that haha.
Oh my gosh ahaha, they just can't make up their minds 🤦♀️
Visiting suit. Love it!
Good shit brotha, after all, they might’ve had a point, I mean....I’m sure he did feel it...jussayin 🤷🏽♂️🤣
Is there a part 2 to this?
“The Memorial Wine” 🍷
...uwUGryff gets wasted with the blood of Christ!
Omg yes 😂 during the memorial, after I turn 18, right before announcing my wish to no longer be a JW to my family. Sounds great to me 👍🏼
Stay strong . I am so sorry you have to go through all this when you are awake but cant leave ! ❤️
Thank you so much ❤️
This amazing community keeps me sane 💓
You have the best to come !🌺 We spent 50 years in the cult but are so happy to be free from it now. Although its sad to loose friends and family 🌺
Jesus proclaimed to a very specific audience to do this in remembrance of me. He didn't make it into a broad public spectacle. Almost 2000 years later the GB has somehow convinced folks that it should be a public spectacle. What do I know? I'm just a lowly POMO.
Don't piss him off or he'll turn you into a jar of spicy salsa!
Big Jalapeño is by far my new favorite!
oh my goodness !
Hope she knows that the bread in it self is nothing ,,,., even in JW eyes .... Only during the memorial it represents Jesus body ... after the memorial you are allowed to eat the bread and drink the wine 🥂
She unfortunately chooses to ignore this fact 🤦♀️
No offense but your mom sounds like she is a bit batshit crazy.
This whole idea of symbolically eating flesh and blood by eating bread and wine always seemed ghoulish and crazy to me.
She unfortunately does take these things wayyy too seriously 🤦♀️
She needs to brush up on Paul's dissertation about eating the sacrificial meat.
Besides, isn't putting this undo meaning and power onto bread idolatry? It's just bread. It's barely bread. It's like crackers. And it doesn't mean anything until tonight when they make it mean something completely different. Oy
If your mom could chill out for a second and read, she would realize that you ate the bread on Nisan 13, not 14. It's not the same day as the memorial until after SUNDOWN.
But more than that, even the WT says that the emblems are just food and don't need to be treated differently outside of the actual memorial observance.
But more than that, she needs to stop yelling at her child if she really loves you.
Edit: every year before covid, my elders and I would take turns taking the memorial wine home to finish off (weren't allowed to drink in the venue). It was my turn in 2018. The wine isn't as bad as people say IMO.
So funny. Absolutely bonkers.
Not to hijack the convo, but looking back to my PIMI days, it was never explained to me anywhere near satisfaction of just *how* the anointed know they're anointed. It was always one of those lingering doubts I had, which ultimately led to my awakening.
And now the best explanation Lett could give is that "anointed ones just know that they are anointed" 🤨
Sorry that you have to go through such hard ordeal under your mum. I wish and hope you can get out from this cult safely after you passed legal adult age in your country.
>There's a few single brothers in our area that are unable to do absolutely anything for themselves, let alone put together flour and water in a bowl and bake, so I was told to bake the bread also for them.
Male chauvinistic pigs are rampant in Jehovah's Witnesses. Enough said. I was deeply disturbed when I heard a male pioneer and servant rebuked a pioneer sister for suggesting a reasonable idea to him. "You cannot talk like that to me. I'm a brother!" This is one of my many reasons to leave this cult.
Thank you <3
I Hope so too
That's terrible 😔 And they still say that there is no
sexism in the org 🤦♀️
I noticed that a lot of males can't do shit for themselves in the he borg (myself included on certain things) but I'm giving it my all to learn
Sigh. It's almost like satire sometimes, these stories. JWs are insane.
Lol gold fish would be hilarious
I literally just got back from the store with a bag of goldfish for this purpose! 🐠😂
These emblems are expected to be taken by ALL Christians as children of God. No portion in the Bible excludes any "144000" ...a figurative number as the only partakers. John.6:48-53. Rutherford, with the help of Satan misled JWs in the first place that there should be secondary Christians who are "friends of God", not mediated for by Christ. If the 12 tribes of e.g Reuben can't be identified literally, how on earth could the remaining 11 tribes be literal? Hence the 144000 can't be taken literally. It's figurative! Watchtower teaching of literal 144000 is all part of their senseless, eisegetic approach to the Bible. Part of their lies to millions!
There is no sin because sin a construct made up by humans.
Also, you can’t “be in trouble” if you don’t care.
PIMI wife is like 'were gonna dring that tasty wine after memorial zoom, so nice'.
I'm like what? There used to be this huge deal that the day until next sunset this wine is sacred and it's for the anointed yadda yadda.
Witness doctrine - what the fuck ever is popular among your congregation elders...
Have the loaves and wine been prayed over and dedicated for that purpose yet? Cause otherwise isn’t it just crackers?
Good grief, I'm sorry to hear that! Your experience was so different then mine. My PIMI family - with a smile - allowed me to observe my own interpretation of the Memorial alone, separate from them. I was actually surprised that they respected my wishes regarding that, I thought my Mom would at least put up a fuss or something. And then after it was over we ate the bread and drank the wine together, smiles all round, because that's just what it is, bread and wine.
I hope everything's cool beans for you, and best wishes.
Sounds like heaven 😍
Everything's cool now, thanks!
Best wishes to you too :))
That's crazy man. My wife made it last night and we were sampling the breads with some cheese and wine, and she's super pimi.
I would have added some weed just to smooth things out :)
I’m POMO but zoom in for my mum who is PIMI. This is my second zoom memorial. Last year zoom memorial there was some talk of emblems but the general message was if you’re not partaking don’t worry about it.
This year I’ve been sent letters, cards and messages from PIMI friends inviting me to their zoom memorials and also asking am I happy sorting out emblems for myself and I’ve even been sent the bread recipe.
Why one year no emblems is ok then next year emphasis is on making sure you have emblems at home. Typical can’t make their minds up. I probably shouldn’t have any wine in front of me any way as I’ll forget and start sipping it 🤣
I’m zooming in for my parents this year even though I am POMO, and my dad didn’t say anything about emblems. Last year when I was still PIMO, everyone ate the same emblems afterward though. My mom just bought them from Trader Joe’s lol
I decided I wanted to see what this memorial bread is. It's literally just flour and water...? No wonder you spiced it up. I bet it was like Jesus wearing a zoot suit
Couldn't have described it better 😂
Wow. Also, loaves, because you seemed like you wanted to know for sure. Your mom sounds like my mom. I'm so sorry. But glad you have a good sense of humor, that will help you in the next few years.
Oh ok thanks! Wasn't sure whether it would be correct to call them loaves cause they look more like crackers than bread 🤷🏽♀️
And thank you for your kindness ❤️
I mean, you can call them trash, if you want. LOL. I think the whole thing is absurd. My sister has already messaged me this morning to ask if I'm logging on this evening. Insert eye roll here. But good vibes your way to get through it. :) There's some really nice people in this sub and we're happy to lend an ear any time you need to rant!
dang I'm sorry to hear that, it must suck. Good vibes your way too! This sub has truly been the greatest blessing I've received so far, and I appreciate every single person in it 💖
I couldn't be more grateful!
Crazy people are crazy.
What a F*@#*d up mother! Glad you have this forum where you can vent and share your experiences with us.
What special ingredients did you put there ?? My mind lives in the gutter and therefore needs some clarification/cleansing
Just salt and yeast! nothing terrible 😂
She can chill. According to JW theology, they don’t become “the body of Christ” (so creepy) until after they say the individual prayer over the bread, and it becomes “the blood of Christ” after they say the individual prayer over the wine.
Damn that’s sucks, luckily for me I had to work today so I don’t have to participate in the preparation, and I though I was free today but I remembered that it’s in the afternoon, and I get off work right before it, barely saved, guess I’ll just stay at work and say to my family that work got busy 😂😂
Edit: also if anyone that wants to chat and hit me up, i personally want to hear different stories from different people, I’m still a pimo and hopefully I’ll be fully out before this service year is over, good luck to those who are struggling and to those getting out, wish you guys the best of luck!
Hang in there. Plan your exit strategy.
Fucking dead at "Big Jalapeno".
Me and my parents baked the bread 2 days ago (i’m a 17 yr old pimo) and we baked two of them and we ate one of the breads that night, my parents must be really lenient even tho they’re pimi, they did not pray before eating the bread lol
I can’t believe you ate Jesus body, how dare you.
Sky Daddy is going to be so mad 😳
Why not just buy some of those dry ass Jewish crackers??
Lol didn't even know they existed
Not sure they are a thing were I live :/
Aww man. That’s what my parents would always use.
That’s so weird. My elder dad, who made it this afternoon, took a bite after just to check if it’s ok. He said it’s fine since is not in the “context” of the memorial. Wooooow, double standards I see. I’m sorry you had to listen to that...
Haha well Jesus did ask his followers to partake, never mentioned a certain group of humanity! He mentioned it to ALL humanity!
Wait, y'all didn't eat the bread? I guess my congregation was weird, after the memorial as kids we would eat the bread, and no one had a problem with that
Kids in my cong wouldn't even dare to ask LOL
If you "just know" that you're "anointed" why do you need to receive a formal invitation? Shouldn't you instinctively gather to the hive? And why bother inviting all the gawkers? It's not their party anyway.
Good stuff and cheers from the land down under...
Lmaooo "big Jalepeño"🤣🤣
Whoah, whoah, whoah - some congregations actually make their own bread? How in my entire life did I never realize this?!
My dad would just go to the Jewish deli and buy Manischewitz matzos crackers and wine. I always assumed that's what everyone did!
Haven't been following. What's this about baking your own bread?? Is every family doing that?
Yes, every one has to bake their own bread. I was actually surprised to find out that some people just buy it!
We just made the bread, it only took 8 minutes, we dont make loaves we just make them flat crackers with fork holes in them.
https://youtu.be/75TfwZX4B5Y seems fitting to put this here today ..
Oh my ahah
Nah didn't go that far
wow, you damn cannibal, you!
"Big jalapeño" fucking killed me omfg
Your hilarious and so smart ! I wish I had your wisdom at 15! You are already a bad ass boss lady and your future will be nothing short of amazing! I’m totally using big Jalapeño! Love it ! Wishing you nothing but the best 😀
Aww you are so nice, thank you so much 💕
Best wishes to you!
Put a few drops of blood in it next time.
What kind of FLOWER did you use as your secret recipe?
Any dead flowers you can find on the streets for added spice 😉
Ohoohoho you little demon 😂😂
Ok I have an issue with you tainting the bread.
I’m sorry you are forced into these things, it’s unfair to be made to believe or do anything and the pressure is beyond acceptable. I’m 33 and I’ve spent my life wrestling with this, so I can see why you’d want strike back at such a destructive force in your life but I’d hope you might consider what I have to say
The witnesses are people with beliefs and choosing not to believe them is different to disrespecting them or their traditions. I wouldn’t go to another place of worship for example and throw shade on their practices because regardless of what you believe, I think seeking a higher purpose or spiritually is part of the human condition and should be respected as such.
I’m certain you did it as a rebellious and playful act, and I appreciate your courage going it alone. It’s not my place to say it was bad or good, but I will say the act of putting something in something else that shouldn’t be there can be a dangerous game to play and have unexpected and serious consequences. Even if those consequences are hurt feelings, is it really worth it? Maybe, I will leave that for you to decide.
Speaking from experience, I’ve seen a friend slip into a coma from drinking something tainted. Extreme comparison to bring up but as children of JW we tend to have to grow up quick to fend for ourselves and it can be hard to respect the people around us who are supposed to guide us through the terrain of morality because they have such wild beliefs.
If you want them to listen or respect your feelings or opinions (unlikely they would but still something to be sought after) then you need to hold yourself to the highest level. If you give them ammunition like this they will call you worldly and move on. I’d like to think all of us want to save our families from the hardship and sacrifice that comes with being a JW, bring them back to reality. I certainly would. To do that we can’t be seen as enemies, but allies.
I’m sorry if this was waffle or making something small a big deal but i promise it’s with the best intentions and I’m grateful if you gave it the time to read
No problem, I totally understand what you mean.
Just to put it out there, all I added was a generous pinch of salt and a tiny bit of yeast, nothing terrible. But I 100% agree with you that not believing in certain beliefs and disrespecting them are two different things.
I didn't mean it as an act of disrespect, it was just a way to prove to myself that I am mentally free from this cult, if this makes any sense.
Also because I've rarely in my life felt that my mother cared about me in ways not related to the cult, and this was a little "screw you" i guess 😅 ( I love my mother)
I didn't add anything to the "second batch" of bread for a lack of time, which I am now glad I didn't, because to be honest, despite not believing in a single thing the organization says anymore, the guilt would have eaten me alive.
So well, in conclusion, I agree with you. My irrational self took over for a bit, but no damage has been done, and I would never dream of causing any.
Thanks for your comment ❤️
Good Job OP
It can't be waffle because pancake batter has leavening in it. ;) To be serious though, I wonder if mom noticed the extra lift from the additional yeast and then ordered the extra batch.
Insofar as unleavened loaves go, would things like corn tortillas or graham crackers count? What about cookie crisps without the yeast? I'm thinking sliced tortillas deep fried and coated in cinnamon sugar. Just wondering if it were up to Jesus that he would want something tasty to represent. Anyone else got special recipes?
I don't think she noticed the yeast, it was way too of an insignificant amount to make the bread rise, I just wanted to feel a bit mischievous 🥴
And as for the unleavened loaves, I'm pretty sure the GB made it clear that flour and water can be the ONLY two ingredients in the bread 🤷🏽♀️
