Don’t bring a knife to a gun fight...?

dmfd1234

Don’t be a dumbass and do dumb shit around unsuspecting armed individuals. Wtf, you get what you get, I suppose.

carterb199

I feel bad for his parents, I mean it's gotta be really painful for them that he died in a such a dumb and preventable way. Like not wearing your seat belt is one thing, he threatened someone with a knife for internet clout.

duTemplar

I always enjoyed the video pranks where the brothers, garbed up as a particular stereotype would toss a package and run. And then one got shot. But hey, the did not film in America or their YouTube career would have been MUCH shorter...

not-a-painting

wait fucking what

duTemplar

https://youtu.be/pB-q2KUsxJg Snopes now says it was fake the one got shot, but was reported widely a couple years ago. There was another one where the dude dressed as a super creepy clown and was playing a fool with an axe. Yea, funny a dozen times aaaand then ran into the concealed carry...

not-a-painting

Do people have an actual death wish? I had no idea, these 'pranks' are all super fucked up. I appreciate the link.

ijjgiafjidfai

Another one where middle eastern guy brought a briefcase that began counting down leaving everyone to run in fear. He was arrested or at least detained by the cops.

Iviirror87

I feel bad for the shooter. Unsuspecting, just living and being rushed by a random person with knives? How terrified they must have been and now to be burdened with the guilt of killing a young man for being stupid! Bad all around.

Dewage83

Exactly. There's so much wrong with this story on all sides but to be that guy who has to use his gun in self defense only to find out it was a prank for fake internet points.

[deleted]

Ehh....I'm not big on guns, but in this instance it's 100% on the fucking dumbass who got killed. You don't run at people with knives and expect good things to turn out.

Bloody_sock_puppet

Double devils advocate. It all turns out to be a prank, you've killed someone over it, but the entire world hears and has sympathy. After a few days you rationalize that it could have happened to someone with a bad heart, or to someone who was a worse shot and hit a bystander... Not quite as dangerous as an armed mugger but close enough to put behind you. And ultimately, what does that sort of person grow up to be? A mugger might get the money for a meal, find a job, and stop mugging people. Idiots are going to idiot until someone stops them.

Kimbo Slice said to block with your forearm in a knife fight...he never steered me wrong.

HarryFlashman1927

Kimbo knocking people out in his back garden surrounded by BBQ's and his washing line is an absolute delight of the internet age.

bigredmnky

I mean you try to, but you’re still trying to stop a steak knife with a steak here

whoami_whereami

Well, the idea is that injuries to the forearm are relatively unlikely to be immediately life threatening. Even if it hits an artery the bleeding is much more manageable because the arteries become much smaller and blood pressure drops towards the ends of the extremities.

MurderousGimp

Hey, that's how I won my first(and only) knife fight!

MichiganSavage

Yeah that all makes sense. I hope I’m never in a knife fight.

Jonno_FTW

Here's my advice for a knife fight: Step 1: run away

Zealousideal_Chain19

If you're in a knife fight it's too late already. You need to run as soon as you see the knife before it gets anywhere near you

ThaSpade

sometimes running is not an option if the attacker is already too close to you, friend got stabbed in lungs from the back that way. Luckily he did manage to recover and the motherfucker got arrested and is still serving his sentence.

40325

fuckin' yikes dawg. i don't even like when someone is play chasing me

_tsuujin

I have training in this, so I’ll put in my two cents. When I was training in martial arts I had a peer who was going into corrections and was very concerned about being shanked. I spent literally months training with him several times a week on open hand knife defense. Bottom line, if you are defending against a knife, you need three things: 1. To see the attack coming 2. to have space to maneuver 3. for your opponent to not know how to fight with a knife Regarding that last point, people who have never trained with a knife are kind of predictable; they tend towards big stabbing or swiping motions that telegraph themselves. You can stop this if you see it and you are calm. People who know what they’re doing, however, will wait until they’re in striking range before they attack, and will use small, rapid slashes that are very difficult to predict and more difficult still to stop. You need to create space and create openings. This is a really long way to say: knives are very dangerous, even if you have a gun. It would be silly to *not defend yourself* if you have a capable means. Although, in fairness, guns *are* a considerable advantage, assuming you know you need to defend yourself.

HHyperion

I recently saw a video of a Yakuza hitman assassinate a man under heavy police guard. He struck him three times in half as many seconds, twice in the thoracic cavity. Assassin had expertly struck his kidney and liver with a 12" sushi knife. Dead in minutes, even with an ambo sitting nearby. Real pro can make sure you stay gone.

daniu

I found [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fjMpn7JCJ0&t=3m30s) fascinating to watch, with a trained gun fighter explaining the issues in gun vs. knife situation.

stinkybalz

I only saw that movie once in the theatre. I found the stream of dialogue to be really overwhelming and irritating. I just wanted them to take a break. Do you think there was a reason he wrote it like that?

Cre_13

It’s a love letter for B movies, none of the girls are actors (all stuntwomen), the editor also deliberately makes editing mistakes throughout the film. This is an intentionally bad film. Not like the other guy suggesting “Tarantino film” all his other work are better than this. But yeah this dialogue scene was so awful I was surprised how successfully it was done.

OaklandOni

trayola

I feel bad for the person who shot him. It was obviously self-defense, and there’s no way they could have known it was a stupid prank, but you KNOW they’re feeling a lot of guilt right now.

DivineDaedra

That's what I was thinking. I hope they can get therapy without too much trouble. It made sense to shoot and I doubt any unbiased parties would blame the shooter, but if he needs to defend himself in court it's gonna feel awful.

This is off topic, but I had a friend once who robbed someone because he needed money to get insulin for his kid. I believe that reason was true, but I still stopped talking with him even though I understand the reasoning. I feel bad that some people have to resort to robbing innocent people as a last result. But it’s still not okay. He seems to have his life back together, his kids alive and well but I won’t ever talk to him again for sharing with me that he robbed some lady walking home for money. This world just sucks sometimes.

QueenHarpy

Bloody hell you guys need to sort out your healthcare system.

[deleted]

Not just that, their medicane prices are way higher than the rest of the world. You see 1 US dollar makes 7 tl(Turkish lira) but I can get the 17 dollar medicane for 18tl in Turkey(this is if state doesn't pay for it), I've seen 10k dollar cancer medicane with the same pricing policy, it is 14k TL instead of 70K(state pays for it). It is understandable, we couldn't afford if it was selled here with the US pricing. I know that medicane prices are adjusted by the firms so they can sell to everyone but Americans aren't that richer than Canadians, they are still much cheaper in Canada.

wtph

>This is off topic, but I had a friend once who robbed someone because he needed money to get insulin for his kid. This is America.

Bupod

Exactly. A prank is dressing up as a garbage can and jump scaring people as they walk out of the theater. Approaching a group of people with a friend, both of you carrying knives, is fucking traumatizing *at best*. At worst...you get the above scenario.

Tickle_The_Grundle

> A prank is dressing up as a garbage can and jump scaring people Even that can get you punched, [in case anyone forgets this classic video from back in the day](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hYDYrdiYX8).

Fight or flight response. That individual chose the former.

mallechilio

Lesson of the day: do not trigger fight or flight reactions in strangers. (Not just because you're an asshole for doing so, they just might actually fight.)

If both parties aren't laughing at the end, it's not a prank. In this case neither party is laughing. Though I am ashamed to admit that... Well... I'm laughing a little. Freak_Out_Bazaar

Assuming that this is true, why would anyone do this? Especially in a country where any random person on the street can be carrying a gun?

Inigo93

Because youtube hits, man. Beyond that? Because they're idiots and don't think things through.

zensonic1974

Most teenagers are idiots and don't think things through You nailed it in the first sentence

Wiffernubbin

I mean, most people were teenagers. Most people didn't commit crimes thinking they could shout just a prank.

gatonato

The guy was 20

adamantits

how is the person a TEENager,he's literally 20. call him for what he is, an adult. a grown man. stop infantilising these people when there are literal children of colour being referred to as adults.

SchnoozerPogu

Yea it’s crazy how far people are willing to go to try and get clout or success. I remember a Russian streamer killed his pregnant wife because someone donated I think 200$ to kill his wife. He did so by leaving her outside when the weather was extremely cold. She died from hypothermia I believe.

AphoticTide

Iirc it wasn't that he was supposed to kill her. The job was to leave her outside for 2 hours or some amount of time with little to no clothes (?). Unless the guy said outright that the intent was to kill her but from the video and article it was an accidental murder.

ruggles_bottombush

I think the official cause of death was changed to head injuries. He admitted to beating her earlier in the day, including hitting her in the head multiple times.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lumpyspacejams

So he beat his wife in the head, and then left her outside naked in the cold for two hours later in the day, with his explanation being he was being paid a day's wages for a "prank" at best? This sounds like murder with a wacky alibi.

lemonlimulo

She was also pregnant...

[deleted]

What. The. Fuck.

That story gets even worse. The dude continued streaming for hours after bringing in her lifeless body. He even kept streaming when the EMT arrived and pronounced her dead.

TheSuperWig

A guy convinced his girlfriend to shoot him with a Desert Eagle about a foot away whilst he used a thick book to protect himself.... For a YouTube video. Guess how that went.

[deleted]

It was $1000. Which is still ridiculous to harm your wife because fans told you to. However I guess this wasnt the first time. He made her undress and shoved her outside where she lost consciousness and he was so busy reading his base egging on even worse shit he didnt notice her in distress and she died of hypothermia. The article I read said that he didnt even notice till his fans took notice and commented on it. He was ignoring her screams and cries and didnt even notice when she went silent. It was grotesque as fuck. Worst part is he continued to stream when he brought her inside and the paramedics arrived pronouncing her dead. Couldnt of even turn it off. It ran for another 2 hours.

unidumper

Masinator

They had to write 'claimed' as to not take sides or push their opinions onto people

r4moneq7

Yeah, I guess it makes sense

robeph

It is the same as saying alleged criminal, the whole innocent until proven guilty bit goes both ways, until it's decided by court there is no fact to the statement "it was done in self defence" or "he attacked a man" and so on. Just journalistic necessity

samj925

It was just a prank bro

ShakezulaDaMicRulah

Shooting him was a prank too. They got him pretty good this time. Probably the most high level prank ever pulled

AceVaultScum

I feel bad for 2 parties. The idiots parents, and the poor person that shot the idiot.

capeboom

A few years back two men dressed in pig masks carrying knives ran at a couple of my friends while walking along the road in a pretty isolated area at night as part of a “prank”. I don’t even think they were filming it, they were just doing it for kicks. My friends freaked out and one of them ran into the road trying to get away and was hit by a car. He wasn’t seriously injured but the guys who did the pranking just laughed. The friend had psychological issues for years and had to go to counselling. Pranking with life and death stuff isn’t a joke and shouldn’t be acceptable.

Honestly like many others, I have no sympathy for the guy that got shot. The family yes because they can't control what he does in his free time. The shooter, as long as he was legally allowed to carry a firearm in public should not be charged with anything. No one should be surprised he was shot. And let's say no gun was involved, this guy would have been beat to death regardless I'm betting.
