WandaVision Episode 5 Discussion Thread
By - JohnGaines_SE
oh my god Agnes knows she's in a sitcom
I’m almost starting to think she’s calling out for her husband Ralph almost like an SOS. Maybe her husband Ralph wasn’t in west view when the hex went up.
I was wondering if that’s why it almost sounds like she’s yelling when she talks about him.
I think Ralph is someone important and will turn up eventually.
When Woo first shows up in episode 4 he mentions a WitSec protectee hidden out in the town, and he explicitly used the “he/him” pronouns, so I assume he wasn’t talking about Wanda.
I thought Ralph was just a recurring sitcom trope , especially with the declining mentions as the show gets more serious. However, now you mentioned it Ralph is the only male character we’ve heard of but haven’t seen, and we still don’t know who the witness is.
She’s using acting language too “take it from the top” and she’s constantly drinking alcohol
Yea she is well in on it. And just plain suffering. She was even pleading vision not to have her help. She def just wants to get the fuck out of there. ComicsExplained had a cool idea on this. That she was in there to teach but got overwhelmed. I was almost thinking Dr. Strange was at the door for a second.
I think everyone’s aware to a certain extent, just some more than others. Agnes is definitely the most aware out of everyone in Westview, but Herb definitely seemed aware last episode
The mailman saying "Don't worry, your mom won't let him get far" was definitely a tip of the hand that he is aware as well.
She’s starting to look haggard too. She went from being perfectly polished to disheveled and not in the same way as Wanda with the 80s clothes. Although I do think they’re starting to show Wanda faltering too and looking exhausted but they distracted everyone with the babies crying.
I think she purposely killed the dog
When the dog was wrapped in a blanked, I was expecting a jump scare like when we got zombie vision. But now I see that the blankets were probably just so they don't have to have a dead dog on screen.
That dog killed itself. It already tried once that episode, licking the outlet. The pain of being controlled I'd bet.
She was doing a spell with the rocking. I just know it
I was thinking it was in whatever she sprayed on them because she said Ralph uses it on her all the time and people think he's Mephisto.
Baby Vision is quite a sight after last week's creepy dead Vision.
Vision's whole montage was very funny
When that paint brush came in I was doing the "oh c'mon fuck you.....thats great"
I was semi disappointed it didn’t show little baby computer parts.
Damn. Elizabeth Olsen is so amazingly good in this
Her and Bettany both!
Vision’s interaction with Norm was terrifying holy shit.
Phenomenal acting by Norm’s real actor though
[He's a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.](https://youtu.be/tKvqhlhXq9s)
Holy shit what a fucking ending! Crazy fucking episode. I love it!
Did anyone else notice that the recap had a different scene of Wanda. She said "she didn't belong here"
YES!! I was gonna mention this they changed “she went back home” to “she doesn’t belong here” and I have no clue why
I think it was serving as a warning. The recaps are for SWORD just as much as they are for us. Wanda knows that SWORD is watching so she put that edit in there, knowing they'd watch it back, as a warning.
That would make sense... I mean she literally did give sword a warning this episode
She even had her old accent
When she went outside to threaten all those military types, you mean, or some other time? I thought I noticed a bit of an accent then, but I wasn't sure.
Yh when she was basically approaching sword I heard the sokovian
What if... bear with me for a second... what if the recap is part of Wanda’s reality?
Agreed, I’m thinking it’s similar to the “rewinds” she does and it’s like doing multiple takes of a scene
The cake just says 1 2 3 4 5 no keeping up. with these baby birthdays
SHE RECAST PIETRO
Everyone : Endgame was the most ambitious crossover
WandaVision : Hold my Pietro from A FRICKING ANOTHER CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
AND WITH THE ORIGINAL PIETRO
This is the crossover that we have all been waiting for
No joke I'm already loving scumbag uncle Quicksilver crashing on the couch lamenting that C3PO is nailing his sister
> No joke I'm already loving scumbag uncle Quicksilver crashing on the couch lamenting that C3PO is nailing his sister
Found Seth McFarland's secret Reddit account.
So Fox tie-in confirmed?
Nah. She even said that she didn't bring whoever it was at the door. There's someone else pulling the strings here as well.
I also think when vision un-hexed that guy’s brain and he realize who he was, it was misdirection when he kept saying “SHE’S doing this to us!” I don’t think the “she” is Wanda. I think there is someone else that is really pulling the strings in Westview and she is using Scarlett Witch’s rage and desire for Vision as a scapegoat for a darker plan
I SCREAMED when I saw the back of his head...I can’t believe it
She didn't do it. That's the boy-who-cried-wolf part. Can't wait to see the multiverse stuff to be revealed!
I swear I lost my breath when I saw silver hair AND THAT REVEAL HOLY SHIT
My husband screamed when it happened. No no not screamed, he howled. He’s a huge fan of XMU Quicksilver.
Monica CONFIRMING Scarlet Witch could’ve killed Thanos, and then hearing “Captain Marvel came close” is exactly the type of conversation I have with my friends lol. Well played, Marvel.
Also her reaction to Carol was... unexpected. Almost like she held a grudge against her for some reason
I can see why she might have a grudge. Carol is her aunt and she hasn’t visited Monica once since she came back, and there’s no indication that she comforted Maria as she was dying. I can see there being a set up for a bitterness between the two
Exactly. If things are as we are seeing them, Carol has been a terrible Aunt for Monica. Hell, I was holding off on commenting that because I knew it couldn’t have been a mistake but it angers me so much that Carol came back to Earth ready to pop Thanos’ head mainly because of Fury, a guy she knew for a whole week, while her best friend’s daughter was snapped too, while her best friend dies of câncer mind you
I mean, she wasn't the warmest character. She was certainly hardened or something. Maybe took the larger role she plays in the galaxy too seriously and disconnected? Marvel in Endgame was so different than the one in her own movie. She was very cold in Endgame so it doesnt surprise me.
Maybe the cancer was a result of some of the experiments they had run / were running in *Captain Marvel*?
If that's the case, Monica is going to have serious issues with being able to transform into electromagnetic wavelengths...
This is a great way of them to continue the theme of breaking the 4th wall. They are purposely trying to recreate our conversations and I love it.
Is it too meta if I say “see, she’s the most powerful avenger”? And reference this scene as evidence lol
Wanda really rolled the credits on Vision in the middle of a argument 😭 I love her
That made me laugh out loud. He was just like “Nope” we will finish this conversation
"DON'T YOU ROLL CREDITS ON ME!"
Anyone else notice how Monica completely absorbed the x-rays? That’s why her scan was blank!
Yeah that's why she asked about the container to get in.
Gamma rays can pass through everything but that.
The x-rays weren't absorbed, it's that she's full of gamma radiation. She just doesn't know it, yet. This makes her have her powers.
Hold on.... does this mean everyone in the town could possibly be mutants now?
X-men crossover incoming
"She recast Pietro?" Okay, that was great.
In universe, considering Wanda had to steal Vison's body....I'm wondering if this recast *is* purposeful. Wanda wouldn't have access to Pietro's body, so she'd have to find someone else to play his role. But is Evans Peters Pietro just another kidnapped person? Or did she spring him into existence like Tommy and Billy?
In the same vein, I think the lines about how she doesn’t have a nickname at all since Marvel didn’t have the rights to Scarlet Witch up to this point was hilariously meta.
I love the meta of Elizabeth Olsen parenting twins on an 80's family sitcom too.
And her haircut is the same as her sisters' from that show.
not to mention they were having a picnic at the end of the theme song, like they were in Full House
And this might just be me, but I was getting serious Uncle Jesse vibes from Pietro at the end.
I think it has something to do with the energy field around Westview turning red, maybe she's splicing it out of our reality and it's bleeding into others?
“Should we just take it from the top?”
It’s just getting weirder by the moment, I love it
“You want me to hold them...” Agatha showing through?
Oh, she had an agenda... I think she was purposely seeding conflict between Vision and Wanda and she really seemed to want Wanda to resurrect Sparky.
How did she think that was okay to do? Aren't they scared of her?
Wanda admits she doesn’t even totally know what’s going on. I think Agnes knows more than any of them.
I could be totally off-base, but I read that part as, "Wanda is starting to lose control over her reality." Normally, when someone (such as Vision) throws a curve ball in the narrative, Wanda is able to correct it as if it never happened, which is what Agnis was probably expecting.
That scene made me so uncomfortable. The writing is incredible
“It’s not an illusion, Wanda is re-writing reality”
“You called it a hex”
Well, I’m gonna be rewatching this a few times to hunt for Easter 🐣
Say Scarlet Witch! Say Scarlett Witch! Oh, Randell.
That transition from the end credits to vision yelling at Wanda scared the loving crap outta me
I would like to formally welcome Evan Peters as the first X-Men refugee to officially make it to the MCU...
It makes sense that he'd get there quickest.
His age and look are exactly correct for the decade this "episode" takes place from his debut with the Xmen.
Literally worlds colliding. 🤯
“Didn’t belong here”?!?! Excuse me — that is not what she said.
or ...maybe she did, and Wanda just wiped our memory.. 🤯
Guys, what the actual fuck?
That's the original name of the show but Wanda used her jazz hands and now it's called WandaVision
Damn, kinda heartbreaking when you realize Visions corpse the whole time was being studied and used adding to Wanda's grief.
And Hayward saying “Vision never wanted to be someone’s weapon” but do you really think SWORD wasn’t researching and learning from his body?
After this episode I’m confirmed Hayward is an antagonist of some kind.
I think I saw someone say that SWORD will end up being the bad guy here earlier this week. Literally was like “Lol OK” when Hayward was talking about Visions living will. Then he fired the missile at her and the twins?? Seems like Woo, Darcy and Monica will be the good SWORD agents and get this all sorted out.
I’m thinking that SWORD will end up back in Monica’s hands and be good again, and it’s just under him as director.
Yeah, the cut to him saying terrorist wasn't just to mask them calling him an inappropriate name.
Is Hydra still a thing? Or am I just too big of a Cap fan
I think it’d be far more interesting that he’s just in it to make SWORD more attack-ready and steamrolling over people to get what he thinks would be best. At this point bringing the HYDRA thing back would be tired.
I wonder if that’s why she stole him. She probably knew his will and his wishes and found out sword was studying him and taking him apart so she busted in and took him home.
Yeah I agree, it probably started like that. She got wind that that's what they were doing and went to put a stop to it and then it maybe escalated from there?
Reference in the ad:
Lagos was the city in *Captain America: Civil War* where Wanda accidentally destroyed a building.
Lagos ... for when you make a mess you didn't mean to.
>destroyed a building
Also while killing.... How many people? Hundreds, right?
Edit - I was WAY off
I know it was above 30.
Wiki says 'numerous people and 11 aid workers from Wakanda'
The wiki says a total of 26, 11 of which were from Wakanda.
Director Hayward is an asshole. I say that he was dissecting Vision to weaponize or mass produce him.
The cut shot from the Woo and Darcy calling him a dick, and it being overlapped by Hayward saying terrorist wasn't an accident.
It reminded me of Monica saying he was the "ONLY" choice for acting director when Maria died. No wonder she said that.
That immediately jumped out at me.
He tried to kill Wanda without de-escalation, after telling everyone she’s the bad guy. She knew he had to be stopped so she had all the guns trained on him. I think he’s someone serious.
He shot at HER KIDS. Who he already knew for a fact to be real human beings that are actually her children and not simulations. I can't believe Wanda didn't say anything about that when she threatened SWORD.
Agnes just nodding on in agreement to "we can't just rush aging" really got me for some reason
Holy shit she fucked a corpse.
I REALLY HOPED THAT WOULDN'T BE THE CASE BUT HERE WE ARE
Not only that.
Notice in the security footage of her storming that SWORD facility, Vision's corpse was disassembled and basically just a pile of scrap parts.
She PUT HIM BACK TOGETHER FROM A PILE OF SCRAPS, and then fucked him. :O
LAGOS FOR WHEN U MAKE A MESS U DIDNT MEAN TO MAKE THIS SHOW IS MESSED UPPP LOL
“Kids. Can’t control them. No matter how hard you try.” -Agnes
I have a feeling this will be significant that Wanda can’t control her kids.
Maybe not just her kids. Could explain why there are no children, and that weird “for the children” chant
The amount of people who haven't understood this crossover is mind boggling. Monumental and opens up so many opportunities
The level of unsettling they pack into just five minutes of show is incredible.
“Should we take it from the top”
she RECAST HIM... disney has too much power.
I hope it’s actually him and he stays. Think of the implications!
......are you going to hurt these women???
Anyone else feel like "sweet dreams" should have been playing for the end credits?
As the X men version no less!
I reeling from this. That felt impossible.
I’m like on the verge of tears, it’s amazing. Here’s hoping they recast her dad too
It took me a moment to process what you mean by that and I don’t think I could literally contain myself from screaming if that happened.
If it's Fassbender...I will scream like a Justin Bieber fan.
The natural reaction to seeing a fassbender cameo in anything I believe
Disney: what, you didn't see that coming?
How is this not the top comment? IMO this is the most groundbreaking thing since Spidey showed up in Civil War. This opens ALL the doors
EXACTLY. It’s like anything goes at this point forward this is game changing.
I love their idea of bringing in actors who’ve played in the role outside of the MCU, it makes it all that much more interconnected.
I cannot believe it, Disney wtf, I love it so much but like wtf, I’m so confused on what is going to happen if all the characters come out of the ‘Hex’ are we going to have Evan Peters/ x-man version on the quick sliver now
How great was Paul Bettany in this episode? Some of his best work in the MCU imo, maybe I’m just running off the fumes of the Evan Peters high but he knocked it outside of the park and I’m extremely excited for Vision to figure everything out
The credits scene with them arguing was amazing. My favorite scene of the show so far.
Her accent is coming back!
I think it was because she was angry and out of sitcom world
DARCY GOT HER COFFEE WAHOOOO
Holy fuck, she stormed the SWORD facility and stole Vision’s corpse. This is definitely getting dark, sign me up!
The scene of her leaving her world to go talk to SWORD was also incredible
Yes, like she can leave her pocket universe to shit talk real folk before returning to her world.
How terrifying was it when she had all the agents point their guns at Hayward? That’s just scratching the surface of her power, DO NOT fuck with Wanda.
She doesn’t know how the west view thing started though, there’s got to be someone behind this who pushed her into stealing him...
Exactly, there is someone else who created westview and brought her brother right as she started spilling the beans to vision.
The sword director was definitely breaking Vision’s Will there. They were obviously doing experiments or something trying to use him in a ‘weapon’ type way and now Monica knows it too.
How many other east coast 3am people do we have in here?
Edit: I’m so glad that we decided to disregard our sleep together, because this was amazing.
Calling in from europe, having WandaVision for breakfast.
Oh God. Are Wanda and Vision gonna get a divorce?
Is it my fault?
Will we have to go stay with Grandpa Magneto?
"No children, Grandpa magneto is not canon yet"
If vision looks at the camera for a 3rd time tomorrow I’m gonna freak out man. That shit creeps me out
Edit: holy fuck y’all I wrote this on Thursday night “tomorrow” simply means Friday morning when I watched the episode
The level of unease they’re pulling off is awesome to me
Wanda and vision continuing to have an argument while the credits and end theme roll is one of the more unnerving things in the show so far. Like when Too Many Cooks turned into a slasher film.
i love the acknowledgment of Wanda being the only hero who could have easily killed Thanos by herself thus proving she is the most powerful Avenger.
Antman could have done that fly up Thanos's ass and expand thing that we all talked about, but no... Marvel wanted to be all cLaSsY.
Antman is clearly the most powerful avenger. They didn't even use his ass busting powers because the final fight would've been done and dusted in 2 minutes.
Unfortunately this isn't The Boys 😂
Ooooh, what beef is there between Monica and Captain Marvel?
Right? I’m intrigued..
Maybe she's upset Carol randomly disappeared for 20 odd years
Carol went to get a gallon of milk and some cigarettes
Probably gave her mom cancer or something...
Or maybe she just ditched her family and left after the movie
“Why didn’t you help Mom while I was gone?”
SHE DID IT! SHE TOOK VISION!
The Stork and the babies can't be controlled by Wanda's magic. Also when she has too much on her plate, her powers sometimes can be wonky- the turkey dinner turning to eggs, the flying lobsters, etc.
I think someone else is definitely manipulating her, whether she knows it or not. I'd bet all my GME stock Agnes is involved.
Both this episode and last week she wasn't on Jimmy and Darcy's board. I think that means her real identity is going to be a reveal, so I think you're right
Holy shit they’ve merged them they’ve done it, xmen and mcu.
“She is the principal victimizer” - remains to be seen, Hayward. Other forces are almost certainly at play
No kidding lol. That only reason the writers would have a character say “she is the principal victimizer” is because she really isn’t.
Hayward is going to turn out to be bad somehow. It feels like it's setting up that way.
Vision is so creepy now. Every scene in his red form, he gives me the creeps.
Well he is a... Reanimated corpse
Can non-organic organisms be zombies? I keep wondering if he falls under that category.
So let’s recap:
Agnes knows about Wanda-Rewind
Agnes is popping in more spontaneously, catalyzing mischief
Wanda broke into SWORD to weekend at Bernie’s Vision
Wanda is tired of hiding...
Monica knows about an aerospace engineer who could help...(Captain Marvel?)
Darcy introduces the HEX magic
Monica CONFIRMING scarlet witch could’ve killed thanos
Norm knows he’s a prisoner after vision touches him, and is terrified
Sparky 🐶 is scared too of what’s outside
Hayward said “take the shot” which was a mistake
“This will be your only warning, stay out of my home” - Scarlet Witch
Monica Rambeau has more courage than most people, legit trying to help Wanda and standing up to her
Welcome to HOUSE OF M baby
PS - “Lagos Brand paper towels” - shout out to Civil War when the craziness went down which lead to the Regulations of the Avengers
Who was on the other side of that door? Who else, but her loving (recast) brother Pietro*
...well, here we go!
Wanda isn't known as Scarlett Witch in the MCU.
not yet anyways.
WANDA CAN LEAVE?!
Olsen and Bettany are killing it. You can tell they're having a lot of fun with the show.
Bettany killed me this episode.
Here we go!!
Immediately something's off in the recap, Wanda now says of Geraldine "She had to go, she didn't belong here" instead of what was in the original episode. Hmmmmmmmm.....
He got Aunt Viv’d
"We're currently experiencing slow internet connection speeds. Please see that you are still connected to the internet, and try again"
I'm PRETTY SURE my internet is just fine Disney
Happened to me too!
Uhhh.... Where is Agnes's broach?
“You can’t control me like you do everyone else” “can’t I?” ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING!! I LOVE IT
Monica said she felt suppressed by grief, I’m assuming it’s Wanda’s grief over Vision and everything else screwy that happened to her, but what if it was also Monica’s own grief over losing her mother? Maybe that’s why she was taken into the Hex in the first place, Wanda sensed her grief. And Norm’s first thought was about his sick Dad and his sister, he could’ve been grieving as well. What if Wanda took a bunch of sad people and made the ultimate safe place.
I freaked out when pietro showed up and I started explaining to my mom how this was the start of the multiverse and the x-men in the mcu. But she didn't really care at all XD
Everyone last week who called Hayward being a dick, my hat is off to you
And they covered up Woo and Darcy calling him a dick, making them say, "He's a..." Closed out with Hayward saying "terrorist". They don't make those kind of mistakes in the MCU.
That sudden shift to ten years old was straight up gross.
A 90s morph effect in an 80s sitcom. They weren’t ready!
This is going to be on some retreaded territory but I actually think we got our best evidence that Agnes has some level of control over the hex on the town (a word which we can officially use now!) . Notice that when she "breaks character" all aspects of the sitcom seem to stop, and only resume once Agnes gets back into the scene.
On top of that, I think at this point it's a massive red herring for Wanda to seemingly be in-control to all outside observers. I might end up eating my words on this, but I think when Wanda mentions "***I don't know how any of this started in the first place***" as well as explaining that she doesn't seem capable of controlling everyone 24/7, suggest that while her powers are assisting to control the town... she's not the only one doing so.
The biggest clue comes in the fact that when Vision begins talking to the real norm, he continuously uses the phrase "*she's inside my head"* to which Vision and those watching assume is Wanda. But there's no way the pronoun game was used here without a reason, and so my biggest takeaway from the show so far is that WandaVision is going to pull a Hela from Thor Ragnarok and combine Mephisto & Agatha Harkness into one character.
My belief is that **Agatha is the other half of the Westview anomaly, and when Wanda's powers cut out, hers kick in and may be themselves manipulating Wanda.**
I think this also might better explain the Sitcom format (Which Agnes seems to REVEL in more than most, as she seems to constantly be trying to find opportunities to fit into the show) as opposed to current theories that "Oh Wanda watched old reruns as a child in Sokovia!".
Somehow Agnes realized the opportunity at hand with Wanda's grief and realized she could use this to further her own ends. This does make me wonder if Wanda purely broke into SWORD for Vision's corpse and Agnes capitalized on it, or if she pulled a Baron Zemo and pushed her from behind the scenes in just the right way.
Alternatively we might get a twist that "Ah Mephisto was behind it all along!" that leads into Doctor Strange 2, but I honestly think the writers realize introducing a major player on the last half might not be satisfying. Being halfway through the series and the only hints towards Mephisto being only ones hardcore Comic nerds would get, suggests to me that those clues are being used as a redherring for the people like us who would over analyze these many details and are familiar with the comic-book origin of the inspired materials (FilmTheory did a great video on this just yesterday I believe).
Lagos papertowels... That's dark...
So we know for sure someone else is controlling this.
They brought back Pietro as Evan from the multiverse.
People who are dead stay dead. That remains. So MCU Pietro could not come back. But XMU is still there.
As I said before:
* It's the 80s
* If they brought back 2023 Pietro, he would be 60
* 80s Pietro came because it was the 80s sitcom; time is relevant to the show and the multiverse, no different then taking a piece out as the Ancient One told Bruce
I didn't even CATCH the 80s connection to XMU Peter
Yallllll Agnes is 10000% behind something and I’m fucking here for it.
we got dead vision last episode we DID NOT need baby vision
