Lets not all forget that Jon Favreau voiced THIS Mandalorian before he created THE Mandalorian...
By - TheRealSlimAsh
“This lightsaber was stolen from the Jedi Temple by my ancestors during the fall of the Old Republic. Since then, many Jedi have died upon its blade. Prepare yourself to join them.”
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.
My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, *prepare to die!*
I just watched this episode an hour ago!
He's also playing Paz Vizla, the Heavy Mandalorian from episode 3.
Only the voice acting, but yeah
Doesnt he do the acting too? I know there was a stunt double but didn't think he did all of it.
Nah, the body was that of the ripped guy from episode 1, Tait Fletcher. He played the ripped guy in the bar in the first scene of episode 1.
Favreau isn't nearly that big and buff
I was getting so confused here trying to figure out in what dimension the Phantom Menace opened with a bar scene haha.
It opened with the Jedi getting the bottle service from space Hooters. The best tit-related eatin' and drinkin' this side of the Galaxy!
say “sausage” one more time
Let me Guess, the jedi were perfect gentlemen, paie their bill in full and left with no fuss
No, they skip out on their bill! They steal from the cash register! They break Rupert, the authentic redneck robot!
No shit. Doing business with a Jedi ? I'd sooner higher Sand people to babysit my kids.
No! They skip out on the bill man!
But didn't he train to become the Ultimate Fighting Champion?
From what I can remember, he was just good at getting the piss beat out of him.
> Favreau isn’t nearly that big
He’s even bigger.
There’s always a bigger fish
Well, at least we could totally see Taika fully acting as IG-11 without any double or cgi so, good thing.
Wait so he IS related to Pre Vizla? That’s awesome
The Mando’ade are divided into Houses, which are then divided into clans. So kind of like Scottish people, where all the MacAllan’s are technically related though they probably don’t all know each other personally
I wonder whether or not the legends-based mandalorian tradition of becoming a Mando is still Canon. In the EU Mandalorian changed from species-centric to a culture sometime around Kotor. Anyone could be Mandalorian as long as they sought to follow the code, and clan names were not bound by blood/lineage. It was my favorite part of what made them who they are.
I think that's what they're going for with the whole foundling thing.
True. I just wasn't sure if foundlings were familial children/YA or just any children/YA.
"I was a foundling once" doesn't have much weight behind it if he was just saying "I was a kid once."
Edit: also it makes sense that they would need extra beskar for adopted kids since they'd be less likely to inherit armor.
fair enough but it does leave room for it to be true either way. Jon Favreau has knocked it out of the park so far and I want to believe it whole-heartedly but these days I'm a bit more cautious about star wars lore theories.
Vode An! I really hate that they changed the history. The EU history showed how devoted they were to conquest. The Taung ran out of their own species, so rather than give up the fight, they coopted the worthy conquered into their religion
Exactly. Though it is possible that it's not wholly out the window. Much of Mandalorian history is a mystery to the rest of the galaxy, so they might say some approximately but not wholly true things. The whole "weapons are my religion" does seem to be a reference to the culture of Mandalorians being mainly about that conflict is the natural state of all things in the universe and that partaking in it is submitting one's self to the natural order and that the only true sin is stagnation through eternal peace. The one alien referring to Our main character's "ancestors" riding the Mythosaurs is a nice touch as they could have theoretically done so during the original conquest of Mandalore. Also it will be interesting to see what the tenets of Jon Favreau's Mandalorians are, and how they relate to the Original Mandalorians, The crusaders/neo-crusaders, the true Mandalorians, the pacifists, and death watch.
It’s still my head canon. And I sure hope they reintroduce as much from Traviss Mando culture as possible.
Kandosii sa ka'rta, Vode an.
Coruscanta A'dem mhi, Vode an.
That’s the clone version. The original was Manda’yaim A’den mhi
really? I never knew anything other than the clone version. Though it still works because the Taung were originally from Coruscant.
While they were originally from Coruscant, the hatred the Mando’ade had for the inhabitants of their former home world was intense. Coruscant was the home of the Republic and the Jedi, both the sworn enemies of Mandalore.
Bal Kote! Darasuum Kote!
Jorso'ran kando a tome!
Moved back up to the Highlands. 2 people at college, 1 at work, and 1 at a local gaming group. All of us with the same family name, no idea who anyone of them are.
Presumably so, I think
Pre is a vizsla, Paz is a Vizla, supposedly they’re different clans
No you're right. Paz Vizla is a nod to Shae Vizla.
EDIT: SWTOR technically still isn't canon
To be fair, I think it's beneficial for both being that way. Being Legends means that SWTOR can actually do what they like (which benefits SWTOR) with their plot without it being 1:1 brought to main canon but at the same time it also means that it is semi-canon and the basis for more lore.
Like, that way they can beef Vitiate as much as they want without restrictions. Otherwise new canon would have put a lot of limits on what they could do.
No. They're spelled different. It pains me seeing this error everywhere.
In the Clone Wars you had Pre Vizsla of clan Vizsla.
In The Mandalorion you have Paz Vizla, of clan Vizla.
TWO DIFFERENT CLANS.
Why do you ruin my fun
Not trying to, just don't want you running around with the wrong idea. Paz Vizla is a nod to another badass named Shae Vizla. Still a badass by all means. Just not that one.
Edit: forgot that Shae is from legends.
Shae is legends my dude not canon
Isn’t swtor still canon tho?
Swtor is in a weird limbo state. The reason the EU was struck from Canon is because Disney wanted to create their own Canon around the same time as the OT. The Old Republic, however, is so far back in Star Wars history that it wouldn't really affect the new Canon by still existing. There have also been rumors about Disney making a trilogy or a TV series in the Old Republic. The Old Republic isn't not Canon is the better way of putting it because Disney hasn't said it isn't.
The easiest way to describe the swtor situation is that it's the only old star wars media allowed to still exist, but it is not granted the rank of canon
It’s outrageous. It’s unfair.
It's not, but it's still a reference to her clan. This means that the clan is canon now.
Copied from my other comment: The easiest way to describe the swtor situation is that it's the only old star wars media allowed to still exist, but it is not granted the rank of canon
They’re spelled different but in the swtor codex it mentions that vizsla is an alternate spelling and was an offshoot of Vizla.
Can you verify this 100%?
I just remember reading it in the in-game codex, sorry I can’t verify
It's okay man, I had to Google Tarre Vizsla's first name. There's sooooo much shit to remember these days.
Honestly I wouldn’t have minded Disney parking down the canon a little bit, remove the jank space rabbits from the late 70s maybe, but throwing out all of the non-film content was ridiculous.
I mean I can sort of understand it because even George wasn't partial to that stuff and Disney would have to put on the ol' readin' glasses and figure out what's been done, who's related to who, etc just so they could make an accurate movie. But yeah plenty of stuff was worth keeping.
Happy cake day!!!
Oh shit I didnt even notice
Does that mean some of the tribe (maybe all) are Death Watch?
Really wish there were more non deathwatch clans. I just want to see proer true mandalorians.
Seems like they missed a chance to call that character Post Vizla.
I knew I recognised the voice
He should play all the Vizlas.
I ducking knew It. It bothers me tho.
First time I herd his voice I knew it was the same VA guy.
Thought I recognized the voice.... Wish they would bring deathwatch into either The Mandalorian or into the movies...
I knew I recognized that voice
Man, I saw this comment and was going nuts trying to think of a scene in ROTS with a Mandalorian 😂
Pre Vizsla Paz Vizla 👀 pretty similar names
He also directed the first iron man movie so he’s to credit for the entire mcu too
He’s like a lion with these huge claws that just dig into being awesome, but so many people think he’s just this little bitty happy baby.
Speaking of Lions...
I'm still surprised they lost
At least the Lions have low expectations. As a Cowboys fan I want to commit seppuku with a lightsaber.
This was the last thing I’d except to see in this comment section
As a fantasy football enthusiast this is a fun crossover for me
As a Vikings fan I'm just gonna laugh
Until the playoffs happen and the Vikings do that thing they do.
The not win thing?
I laugh in your face as a dolphins fan
Edit: I missed the expectations part, never mind have fun with shattered dreams OP
Field goals, how do they work?
My friend was so disappointed, he kept saying it's really hard to be a cowboys fan right now, fuck Garret and I'm just gonna watch the Mavs.
Could be worse. It could have ended like the egg bowl I was watching 🙄🙄🙄
I was talking about how he directs the Lion King... but that too! I’m a Michigander myself and I have no love for them, lol
I'm a vikings fan but they lost to mitch trubisky
....with a third string qb
As a Raiders fan, I'm mad because I needed the Bears to lose so we can get that draft pick up
I mean, first time watching a Lions game?
They're almost as good as the Chargers at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
I’m more nervous when the lions take the lead, because I know they’ll fuck it up
Naaaaaaants' ingonyama bagithi baba
Yeah, he directed the recent one as well.
At least u got it, lol
I thought you meant he directed lion king not football
I want to die.
Waste of my Thursday
Dude has a pretty great track record. Directed arguably the most popular Christmas movie of the past 2 decades (Elf). Helped start off the MCU with Ironman and Ironman 2 and the MCU is obviously insanely successful now. Now directing what is becoming one of the biggest streamed shows ever.
HE DIRECTED ELF !?
He was also in it. Played the doctor in the scene where Will Ferrel was eating the cotton balls.
My finger has a heart beat
I believe Kevin Feige has gone on record saying that after watching elf, they knew they wanted him to do Ironman
Not to mention writing directing and starring in 'Chef' where he basically plays himself and makes utterly beautiful food porn. Also starring Scarjo, Downey Jr, and Dutin Hoffman. Hugely underrated film imo
Love him in Swingers.
Still waiting for this to kick off the Christmas Cinematic Universe where the Grinch tries to erase half of all holiday spirit but then gets his ass kicked by Kevin McCallister.
Keep the change ya filthy animal
This is his most prestigious achievement honestly
That explains the jetpack scene
disney just needs to pay him a lot of money to just start any franchise they’re trying to start
For me, everything he has created still pales in comparison to Chef and Swingers.
And he was Foggy Nelson in the 2003 Daredevil!
One of the only things I didn't hate about that movie.
And the second... and the third.
Not the third
Correct! That was Shane Black, director of the new Predator and one of the stars of the original.
Shane black directed RDJ in kiss kiss bang bang right before iron man. RDJ and Favreau would go to Shane blacks house during iron man to talk about how to direct it.
He also invented Mountain Dew code red.
Jon: I AM THE MANDALORIAN
Rian Johnson: Not. Yet.
It’s Sequel then
He also voiced Rio Durant in Solo.
This needs to be higher!
How did I know none of this?
I assumed the guy must like Star Wars enough but he seems to love it enough to keep being a part of it any chance he can get.
Him and Filoni should have been given the reins to the sequels.
I think the shareholders are just realising that.
Serious though, I'm still confused why Filoni didn't get Kathleens job
After seeing Clone Wars, Rebels and now Mandalorian, there's no other person who can lead the entire universe. Only Filoni.
Hello there, children!
Chef, what would a priest want to stick up my butt?
THE KITCHEN IS MY DOMAIN
my name chef
Have you seen chef please?
The apprentice learns from the master, the master learns from the God.
the man is a god i swear.
He really is. It’s just so weird that when I think of him, I think of the roles that he plays in movies like Four Christmases. So it cracks me up that he can play this supporting characters that don’t seem to be anything like him at all, then he goes off and directs and produces amazing material. Love him
Oh my good. I just remembered who he played in The Replacements
His role in I Love You Man was fucking hilarious
I love him 3000 for sure
Dang I didnt know Favreau played him
Pre Vizla was cool, and I became more a fan of him because my first exposure to the Vizla clan was Shae Vizla in Star Wars The Old Republic (played it before I started binging The Clone Wars on Netflix)
I hate to burst the bubble here but Pre Vizsla and Shae Vizla aren't related. HOWEVER, Shae Vizla is where Paz Vizla gets the inspiration for his name.
EDIT: forgot Shae isn't Canon.
So you are telling me there is a chance for a TOR reference..?
I'll take it.
Shae is Legends exclusive. Paz is Canon exclusive. They don't overlap. Pre belongs to both.
Thank you. I forgot at the time. So many names to remember plus whether or not so-and-so was Canon these days. Especially with Mandalore.
It's credited as Paz Vizsla. Also it's likely the Vizla clan is the exact same one. We have no evidence to the contrary and Pre mentions his ancestor stole the Dark saber during the fall of the Old Republic. Shae was at the sacking of Coruscant. Way too many coincidences.
Holy shit how did I never notice that
To be fair, it’s not super obvious. He does an attempt at gruff badass that differs from his normal acting voice enough that it being him doesn’t jump out at you.
I certainly never knew on my first watch throughs.
He sounds exactly like pre vizla. As soon as I heard it, I knew. Maybe it’s just that I’m a big fan of TCW, and am currently on my seventh rewatch.
You hear him peak through fairly often, but there’s this... almost *primal* rage to some of his lines that sets him apart from his other vocal work like Rio. It’s really impressive.
Clone Wars in general had some amazing voices behind it. Sam Whitwer, James Arnold Taylor, and Matt Lanter managed to redefine their characters without discrediting the prequel actors. Lanter especially is probably the main reason why people say Anakin’s characterization is among the best parts of the show.
He voiced Pre Vizsla and Paz Vizsla.. that’s pretty awesome. I really think Pre Vizsla saves Mando when he was a kid and Mando is part of the Vizsla Clan
I was watching a video on YouTube last night, with Pedro Pascal talking about The Mandalorian and such, and he gives the dude a name. Like straight up says "The Mandalorian is about a guy named (...)" I don't remember what it is, but maybe that's it!
I heard it was >!Dyn Jarren!<
Sounds right, actually! I can't remember the name, I just remember him mentioning it.
Oh man if you could send a link that would be sweet
Wow he just came out and said it. Not even a question about it. Around 2:30 minutes for anyone curious.
Paz Vizla and Pre Vizsla are from two different clans. Notice the difference in spelling.
It seems like Paz Vizsla is spelled the same as Pre Vizsla.. per Favreau
Must be a typo, because they’re both spelt the same.
Edit: I am wrong
Pre vizla? leader of clan vizla? Here to save us from the intergalactic gangsters that threaten our city?
Chef was also a masterpiece
Jon Favreau is massively underrated as a human being
His helmets off.
It is the way.
HOLY crap how come I didn't know about this
Pre Vizla was highly underrated in Clone Wars. I actually thought he was super cool, too bad he tried to 1v1 Maul
If you're a Favreau fan, please check out his movie Chef and the Netflix series based on the movie. Both are fantastic and he's truly an amazing human being.
this is the way
I see my headphones! Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pros.
My name Chef
Wasn't Pre from Concordia? So that would make him a Concordian, not a Mandalorian.
After Satine implemented pacifism all the warriors were banished to Concordia.
That’s like saying someone from Alaska isn’t American. The moon is a part of the territory of Mandalore.
Mandalorians have colonized hundreds of small worlds, Mandalore is just the most populated one. It’s not even technically their homeworld I think
Just rewatched the episode with my dad. So glad I recognized him
He took his helmet off. This is not the way.
I don’t think that’s a coincidence
John favreau? From chef?
Have you bois seen chef?!
What doesn't he do?
He was a hero. I just couldn't see it.
Petition to have the darksaber featured in The Mandalorian?
Your clone is very impressive, you must be very proud
He also played Gutter in PCU.
He’ll always be the man who almost married Monica to me.
