/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread

The purpose of this thread is to avoid cluttering up the subreddit with quickly and easily answered questions and game recommendations. This thread is monitored by many helpful members of our community and questions that are asked here have a very high answer rate assuming you provide enough information for our answerers to work with.

Before asking your question...

  • Check out the wiki pages listed below. - The mod team as well a handful of community volunteers are always adding to our wiki and updating it based on what we see users asking in this thread and in other posts on the subreddit. (We're always looking for more help with the wiki. If you're interested in becoming a wiki contributor, message the moderators.)
  • Perform a quick Google search. - Some questions really are just a quick search away and don't need the help of our community members to answer.
  • Search the subreddit. - We know Reddit's search isn't the best and saying to use the search doesn't sound very helpful. We are working on providing better search tools to assist users in this task.

Hey all.. finishing up on BoTW.. was looking at the world ends with you or a persona title for my next rpg. I played the original world ends with you and loved it. I only have experience with persona 4 and it was very short lived. I see that there are a couple of different titles for persona. Any recommendations are appreciated. Please let me know of other games I might be missing out on. Thanks all.

Is it bad if I leave my switch charging after 100. Like, if it’s on the dock it’s charged to the max all the time: will that break it? Or if I’m playing on handheld and it’s connected to the charger, will it break

thebae00

I’ve been playing on my partner’s switch for years, and finally bought one of my own (!!!) Problem is, at this point I’ve bought a lot of games on his switch through his eShop account that he doesn’t play but I do. I know about the transfer-data system but I don’t want to be constantly connected to the internet to play them especially when he doesn’t. The added complication is that this is a division of assets as part of an amicable breakup, so i’ve considered making my new switch the primary console and paying him back for the few games he owns, but i also think in the future i won’t want a constant reminder of him every time i’m playing on the switch… Is there any other thing we can do or do I just have to buy them all again?

ripanarapakeka

So I'm in a bit of a pickle here.. l wanted to take advantage of a discount on Burnout Paradise and another game, but to do that I must add money to my account. And it seems that nintendo is determined to not take my money away from me, no matter what I do... I've tried PayPal (which gave me an error code for unrecognized seller or something to that effect at first), but now I cannot even link PayPal to nintendo... (now im getting code 9001-1788). Tried using debit card (an error has occurred, lol) and credit card through generated cards (MBWay). I just cant get it to work... Anyone has encountered this error and know what I can do to solve this? I want to buy 2 games but I just cant do it. Only solution I found was "wait 30 days" which means I cant take advantage of the discounted prices....

Phlosippy

If you can’t use PayPal, credit or debit card, you’ll need to purchase eShop credit for the region that the game is on sale in from a trusted online retailer and buy the game that a way.

ripanarapakeka

I suppose... I was wondering why the heck no method was working, so I posted here in the hopes that someone might've had the same problem. Ill try an eshop card I guess. Any reccomended retailers online?

TheMemeLordYeet

How can I get a cartridge out of my switch that's upside down and backwards

Phlosippy

Tweezers, but that doesn’t mean you won’t tear anything else up. You’ll probably going to have to replace the game card reader in it after forcing it out. Here’s a guide for parts, tool needed: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+Headphone+Jack+and+Game+Card+Reader+Replacement/113113

Sweet_Tea245

Game not showing it has save data! I recently got an oled and was trying to transfer data from my lite over, but one of the games I was trying to transfer isn’t showing up in the save data transfer screen! The game is Dead by Daylight if that helps any!

Nerektw

whenever I undock my switch, the screen goes black even if I hear the menu in the background, I followed this guide and it has helped me to fix it https://youtu.be/4pLIHm5NJDk But this is happening every time I undock and it is starting to get annoying, does anybody here knows if there is a way to permanently fix this issue? thanks in advance

TemptedTemplar

>there is a way to permanently fix this issue? Let Nintendo deal with it. The system has different video output chips for handheld and docked mode. And it sounds like one of the handheld video controllers is having a conniption.

Nerektw

since I am in south america, I am not really sure if Nintendo has authorized support centers in my country, I need to check online first I guess

TemptedTemplar

Brazil is an officially supported country, but any other country would be an authorized distributor.

Michael-the-Great

It sounds like a hardware problem so I'm not sure we can help. Try with a friend's dock so you can be sure whether it's the Switch or the dock causing the issue.

Nerektw

I will try that and see how it goes

cczz0019

For the life of me I couldn’t backup my BOTW save to the cloud. Tried everything including clearing internet settings and hard reboot, turning auto backup on and off, manual backup etc. Nothing works! Is this common or am I crazy?

Shes_so_Ratchet

Do have more than one profile on your console? Or do you have multiple Switch consoles?

cczz0019

Yes and yes. I even deleted the old cloud save but still couldn’t backup. None of my profiles can backup now. It seems like the upload never happens and it always say “waiting to back up”

Twinkiman

Are you subscribed to Nintendo Online?

cczz0019

Yes, of course. I had no issues until July. My sub is through 2023.

Twinkiman

That is really odd. The only two things I can think of it possibly not updating is that you are currently actively playing the game while trying to use the cloud save, or you don't have the Switch updated to the current version.

cczz0019

I have the latest version months ago. I always shut down the game and put the console in sleep mode overnight. But cloud save hasn’t worked for the past two months.

Phlosippy

Try to sign out of all devices on Nintendo’s website and log back on your Switch and see if you can upload to the cloud. If you can’t upload, call Nintendo Support: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/contact Instructions on how to sign out of all devices: To sign out from multiple devices and browsers, visit accounts.nintendo.com, go to Sign-In and Security settings in your profile, then View your Sign-In History. You can sign out of all devices or select specific devices that you've visited in the past 30 days.

jacook95

I'm looking for short game recommendations, purposely used as "break" games when playing long RPGs, such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3. These games can be anything less than 10 hours and preferably even shorter. For example, A Short Hike, Sayonara Wild Hearts, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are several I used and enjoyed. Genre doesn't really matter to me, I'll give anything a shot. Any short game recommendations?

JoshuaJSlone

Donut County is under 5 hours easy.

jacook95

Added to my list!

Michael-the-Great

Golf story isn't too long.

[deleted]

I found rogue legacy really good for this, not so much as a game to beat quickly but just worked well for me as a break game as each run is 1~5 mins so I would do a load of runs as a break from my main game. Roguelites in general I've found great for this. As for short games, ones that came to mind that were short but really good. Guacmelee (7 hours), Death and Taxes (3 hours), Pikiniku (3 hours), Transistor (6 hours).

Mountain-Papaya-492

Steamworld Dig 1&2 each are about 6 to 10 hours at most. Metroid Dread can be beat in 4 hours if you're quick and skilled and about 8 if you're just average. Maybe check out some sites like howlongtobeat or Deku deals usually has the average playtime available when you select a game.

ferryl9

As most everyone already knows, Bethesda recently got PEGI rating for Skyrim Anniversary, so looks probably like an eventual switch release. I just got a switch and I really want to get Skyrim. I know no one has a crystal ball but... 1. Do you think they will release SAE as DLC or a physical card? I would love a physical card for SAE. If it was DLC, there would be no monetary or memory card reason not to buy the current version of Skyrim now. 2. Anyone have a guestimate (e.g. months, years) you think Bethesda will give us release information? If it's more than two months with nothing official, I would rather just get the current version now.

JoshuaJSlone

I would guess DLC, but that's no sure thing. Some other Bethesda same-system rereleases have been handled that way, with a disc including the base game and a code to get the rest by DLC. Also, Skyrim's game card is already at least 90% of the way to the 16GB limit. I'm not sure how much all the Anniversary/Creation Club stuff takes, but they're not going to become one of the handful of games using a costlier 32GB card for this. I think we'll hear about it soon. It's definitely not too late to hear about a release for this year, especially one that's a rerelease of a product that's already been on other platforms and already on Switch in an earlier state. If I were to guess we'd hear about it soon (maybe even the Direct expected within the next week?) and the obvious release date would be November 11, Skyrim's anniversary.

leraspberrie

It should all be on card, not dlc. Most collections have all dlc included and I haven't seen download codes for dlc yet. As for release it's too early, I would assume a leak about an American rating would prompt a reply, but it could be a European release only, as it doesn't appear to be in stock. It seems too late for a Christmas release, and I don't know if they would announce it to make players hold off on it while it's still sold in stores. My guess is spring at the earliest, but I'm not an expert.

c4lcul4tion

I'm having an issue with my Joycons not maintaining a connection to my PC. I use 2 of my Joycons as motion trackers on my PC and connect them via Bluetooth. They connect fine at first and work well, but after about 20-30 minutes they randomly disconnect but stay paired in my Bluetooth settings. I have to go through a specific series of steps to reconnect them properly (hold the sync button on Joycons, unpair on PC, and then add them again) and it's a bit annoying to have to do this so often. If I get the order wrong it also forces me to turn my Bluetooth on/off or even restart my PC which adds even more time. Any idea how to stop them from randomly disconnecting?

quackcow144

So when I go on my profile it says I have 75 hours in BOTW, but I know I have well over 200+. Does anyone know why it isn't going up anymore and how I can fix it?

Captain_JohnBrown

Did you transfer the profile in question from one Switch to another during that time?

quackcow144

Yes cuz my previous one had gotten stolen

Captain_JohnBrown

Unfortunately, that's why. Transferring your account between Switches resets the play count and there is no way to restore it to its true number.

quackcow144

So does that mean if i play let's say 80+ hours on this new switch it'll change?

Captain_JohnBrown

That's correct.

quackcow144

Thank you I'll just leave my switch idle so it'll even out again

Captain_JohnBrown

That sounds like a smart plan.

BestNameEvor

I have some problems regarding the space on my Switch. So I got the newest Project Diva dlc, which makes the game 39gb (digital download). I played it a bit, put my Switch away and did something else. After I picked my console back up again it said the game wasn't downloaded, yet. So I tried downloading it again but my Switch says there is no space for the data (my micro sd holds up to 32gb). I don't have a lot of games on my switch and besides project diva non of them take up more than 6gb. I even archived all of the game data on the console and micro sd but for some reason the console acts as if I have some massiv game that takes up most of the free space on both the console and micro sd. The only game that would do that is project diva but that is apparently not downloaded besides me playing it only a few hours ago. I don't have enough space to download the game again, nor do I know what would take up so much space, I archived everything on the console and micro sd after all. Is there something I'm overlooking? Or is there some way I can make the Switch check how much space it has left?

Phlosippy

You will need a microSD that is larger than 39GB to download the Project Diva base game and the DLC included in one place (the microSD or the internal memory and the internal memory is 32GB on the regular Switch.) You can buy the 64GB microSD and you’ll be able to download them both on the card.

BestNameEvor

Yeah, I'm just wondering what takes up that space in my Switch. There is nothing on there after I archived everything.

Phlosippy

Go to system settings, data management, and you’ll see all the data available and what’s installed; https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22289/~/data-management-faqn And there’s this: Fake/Counterfeit microSD Cards Fake/counterfeit microSD cards are tough to tell them apart visually. They can come in identical boxes and use identical branding as legitimate microSD cards, so the only sure way to know is to test the card in question. Fake microSD cards are created by taking a lower capacity card (often only 4 GB or 8 GB) and spoofing the firmware to advertise that the card has a higher capacity than it actually does. This creates problems when the user attempts to write more data to the card than it can handle; the data starts to overwrite itself, often corrupting it and making the data unusable. This article has more information on how to check your microSD card to see if it is counterfeit. Please note that this will destroy the data on the card. For the safety of your purchase, it is recommended that you only buy from reputable sellers. If buying in a physical store, stick to the brick-and-mortar stores, and if buying online, stick with the larger, well-known storefronts with buyer protection. Lastly, if you find a price that's too good to be true, it probably is. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/microsd

BestNameEvor

Thanks, I'll check my sd then. But there also some data on my Switch even though I archived everything on it. There is no data that could possibly be on it, yet it says that it has almost no space left.

Phlosippy

The Switch has an operating system that’s installed on the internal memory to make the Switch function and play games.

BestNameEvor

Is there any way I can clear or at least lower the amount of that data? 40 gb of that seems a bit much for the time I spend on my Switch.

Phlosippy

No. The operating system stays. The operating system is on the internal memory. You don’t even have 40GB of data in one spot. I don’t understand what you are seeing that takes up 40GB of data.

BestNameEvor

Nevermind I forgot that the data on the sd doesn't count because it might be a counterfit. So it can't be 40gb. Sorry for the mistake. It seems 80% of the internal memory is occupied by system data, though. It's just a bit confusing because I played the game just a few hours ago and everything was fine, that's all.

Phlosippy

You have save data and pictures and videos captured using the capture button on the Internal memory. Go in album and see what you have there.

For me personally it's Overwatch, going off reviews though I think it's Neon White.

TakayasuTetris

Seeing all the posts about splatoon 3 pre-order gifts... Anyone know if we should expect Pokémon Violet/Scarlet get a pre-order gift too?

Michael-the-Great

In UK they get a cool starter statue.

Captain_JohnBrown

I doubt it. The most Pokemon ever gets in terms of physical stuff is a poster or keychain.

iamverydepressedboi

Does anyone know where to find these charging grips for the switch that are like the joycon straps?

Michael-the-Great

I've never seen individual joycon charging grips.

iamverydepressedboi

Yeah, I thought not. They’re quite obscure, I think I saw them in a youtube video

iamverydepressedboi

My Gen 2 switch that I bought in 2020 has issues with connecting to the tv. Whenever I put it in the dock, it works for a few minutes then flickers on and off before disconnecting completely. I’ve tried every solution I could find online, including replacing dock and hdmi cable (both official Nintendo products) and nothing has worked. I’ve taken it to a repair shop where they said it would need a motherboard replacement. I have a nearly working gen 1 switch and I was wondering if I could replace the motherboard myself with the one from that console? The issue has been going on for about a year and I don’t know why I haven’t asked here yet.

Michael-the-Great

V2 and V1 main circuit board are not compatible. They aren't the same at all for their shape and size.

Shes_so_Ratchet

Maybe before taking it apart, try cleaning those little holes on the sides of the USB-C input. Sometimes they get some dirt in them and it interferes with proper docking.

iamverydepressedboi

It worked! Thank you so much, it’s something I totally wouldn’t have thought of.

Shes_so_Ratchet

Awesome, glad to hear it!

iamverydepressedboi

I tried this. Something definitely came out of one of them. I’m gonna try docking it later as I can’t right now.

Stuiekills4free

I’m looking to grab the Pokémon Scarlett and Violet OLED switch but I don’t know if it goes on pre-order. Does anyone know a good way to track the moment a item goes on pre-order or on sale? Edit: Specified looking for the console not the game

Michael-the-Great

The Splatoon 3 ones was never on pre-order, so we're not sure.

OwnManagement

It’s already available to preorder, both physically and digitally. At least in the US, that is.

Stuiekills4free

I should have specified, I’m looking for the OLED switch special edition for this game

OwnManagement

Oh I see. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you with regard to that.

drewuigi

I'm trying to transfer my account from my og switch to my new OLED. My OLED is detecting my old switch, but the opposite isn't true. Can someone please help me?

Phlosippy

If you have a router with 2.4 and 5ghz WiFi bands, put one Switch on the 2.4 and the other on the 5ghz band. This is what most people do to get around this issue. If your router doesn’t have 2 bands, use one Switch on WiFi and the other Switch on your phone data hotspot.

drewuigi

Thank you so much, the Hotspot worked great

Phlosippy

👍

PineappleMohawk

What are some good games for a 3yo? Preferably on the cheap

Michael-the-Great

The first Paw Patrol on a Roll really helps them learn how to use a controller with really easy levels and slightly harder optional parts.

Shes_so_Ratchet

Give them an unconnected controller while you play. They won't notice, and it's your cheapest option. There aren't many games meant for that age group. You could get by with auto throttle and bumpers on Mario Kart 8, and maybe Peppa Pig. They don't have the coordination for much else.

atwork826

Should I get Witcher 3? Favorite game of maybe all time is skyrim. Loved the exploration factor, I never disliked the combat or the environment. Loved getting lost in a huge ass cave for like 2 days

Michael-the-Great

Sure. I think it will be really good!

punkvandam

Does Splatoon 3 have skill based matchmaking?

Team7UBard

It does!

JSIcey

looking for the best way to check what games are only on switch so i can use it more!

OwnManagement

Gematsu has a list that allows you to filter by console and platform exclusives.

JSIcey

thanks, ill check it out!

CaspianX2

I review Nintendo Switch games on r/eShopperReviews and am getting close to 2000 reviews. I have [this page](https://old.reddit.com/r/eShopperReviews/wiki/switchexclusives) detailing what I feel are the console's best exclusives. I don't have everything yet of course (for example, I haven't yet reviewed Mario Strikers: Battle League or Splatoon 3), but this should hopefully be a good start.

JSIcey

thank you, ill check them out

SilverResearch

im buying a switch next week and im not very knowledgeable on nintendo stuff, do i need nintendo switch online to just play pokemon sword? im not really looking to battle online or trade anybody, just play the game normally.

Captain_JohnBrown

You don't need Nintendo online for 90% of features with Pokemon Sword.

hamburgers666

Plus, this game doesn't even back up to the cloud using the NSO option, so if that is the only game you plan on playing I would recommend not getting NSO.

IpomoeaDust

Nope, you can play the game normally without NSO! NSO is pretty much just for online multiplayer stuff.

yellowbeehive

It tells you on screen when they are talking. I think there is a button for "listen" or something like that and it will play the video in the background.

Effective_Evening_21

Hi I usually play with my switch decked but once I spend around 2 hours playing the monitor loses the signal from the switch and is only able to regain it after a few hours. does anyone have a solution for this?

TemptedTemplar

Turn off the "Match TV powerstate" option under TV settings if its on. Additionally, peruse your monitor settings for any kind of power saving mode and disable that.

Effective_Evening_21

hi tysm for the info i tried a few things but now the screen just flickers black after some time could you LMK if there is anything i can do about this?

TemptedTemplar

Do you have anything else plugged into the monitor? Does it have those same problems? The other idea is that it could be an issue with your Switch's powersupply or dock. If the power flickers for even a second that could kill your video output. Idk why it would prevent it working for long stretches afterwards, but its a possibility.

DotNetWolf

This probably gets asked a lot on here: Does anyone know how many NSO icons there are in each game category? I want to make sure I didn't miss any out on any sets before the next rotation.

[deleted]

Anyone use a CitySlicker switch case from Waterfield SFBags.com? Going to be traveling to Japan to see inlaws in a few months and I need a quality Switch carrying bag that will protect my OLED switch with Skull Co grips for going across the planet for a week and some long plane/train rides. Was thinking about just doing Skull Co MAX case but wondering if these handmade leather cases are worth the extra cost or if something just as good for cheaper on Amazon is better option? https://www.sfbags.com/collections/gaming-cases/products/nintendo-switch-cityslicker-case "bringing my 3DS as well because poop on you Nintendo for not putting StreetPass on Switch"

Ruckeysquad

I noticed that the back is lifting a bit on my switch, is this worth contacting Nintendo about (the screen may be as well) https://imgur.com/a/M4685c1

TemptedTemplar

How old is it? Slight warping is fairly common, but if the system is only a few months old then its definitely worth getting fixed before your warranty runs out. If its a few years old, then a repair fee would be charged. Though I dont expect it would warp much more than it already has.

Ruckeysquad

Got it near launch

TemptedTemplar

So long past the warranty period. Its possible that its been warping ever so slightly since you got it. You could send it in for repair or repaste the system yourself and maybe get a new backplate. It would be cheaper, but may not completely resolve the issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/vk7br4/repasted_my_switch_and_you_should_too/

EvanderAdvent

My brother wants to be able to use his laptop as a monitor to play his Switch games but we need a cable converter of some kind to connect the Switch’s HDMI to his laptop. Anyone got a recommendation on what cable to buy?

TemptedTemplar

Genki shadowcast would be cheapest. If youre looking at more expensive capture hardware that money would be better spent towards a proper monitor with speakers and a HDMI input. That could be used by the laptop and the Switch.

Michael-the-Great

You need a USB capture card. I'm not sure which one to suggest.

Redninja2007

There is something wrong with my Joy-Con’s triggers. The ZL in particular. It doesn’t click whenever I press it, and I can only push it down a little, it’s incredibly inefficient. Does anybody have any advice

Michael-the-Great

Sometimes it's just out of place and you can just take it apart and get the parts back in alignment. [https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Joy-Con+ZL+Switch+Replacement/143669](https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Joy-Con+ZL+Switch+Replacement/143669) Sometimes you need to replace parts. The L button and ZR buttons are replaceable too, but the R button is on the circuit board and is much more difficult to fix.

Redninja2007

What if I can’t take it apart?

hamburgers666

If you can get a tri-head screw driver, taking apart the joycon isn't too difficult. Of course, if you are uncomfortable with doing that you can try sending it in to Nintendo?

Michael-the-Great

I think the only thing you can do if you can't take it apart is to call Nintendo.

SheikahEyeofTruth

Out of the monster hunter rise sunbreak pro controller and the splatoon 3 pro controller, which one do you think is more rare/collectable? I was fortunate enough to have been gifted both and plan to use one and save one as a reserve or as a collectable.

Michael-the-Great

It's possible the Splatoon one will be in stock for a while or it's possible it will just be gone. So it's hard to say. The Splatoon ones tend to be talked about more than the Monster Hunter ones.

Teosto

A week old Switch owner here. Been mostly playing handheld and liking it a lot but earlier today I put the console on the dock the first time. I was playing Diablo 3 and did it while the game was running. To my surprise the game looked awful. Somehow the picture ratio looked like it was 4:3 ratio even though the whole TV screen was being used. Almost as if the vertical pixels were elongated to make the screen ratio to look 4:3 which it didn't on the handheld screen. Also the resolution should have been 1080p which is the same as my PS4 that's connected on the same TV yet the picture was very hazy. Now there's all the shenanigans with the colors and other stuff to make the game able to run on Switch processor and all that, but I got into wondering if I should have changed some settings to make it look better or if that's how it's going to be? Should I have restarted the game in docked mode entirely for it to render properly on the TV screen? If it's intended I'm ok with it but just making sure it wasn't anything I missed.

Michael-the-Great

I'd try turning on game mode to turn off any post processing. I'd also try another TV or another port on the TV. Does the TV tell you the resolution? If it's stuck at 480p or something, try another HDMI cable too. In the Switch settings try the different RBG range settings, and make sure it's set to 1080p in the Switch settings. I think Diablo 3 looks great on TV with Switch, but I've never compared it to PS4. (It definitely looks better on my PC.)

Teosto

TV has auto resolution switching up to 2k. Why I mentioned PS4 included in there is I've managed to squeeze out the 1080p resolution on it from PS4 games through the same HDMI port I was using now. The cable I used was the one that came in the Switch box. I'll try messing with the settings on the thing once I get home. But I'll take that as a no, there's not any assinine basic mistake I've just made with the thing not knowing how it operates. Like something "Flip this switch on the Switch and it'll work as was intended" kinda deal.

JoshuaJSlone

Nah, I can't really help with your problem, but just docking and undocking any old time should work fine. I can recall a game that sometimes wasn't properly changing resolution when switching between modes, but that was soon patched out, and shouldn't be the case with an older and notable game like Diablo 3.

Michael-the-Great

A few times the dock has been known to output lower resolution due to problems or incompatibilities. So it's worth making sure what you're seeing is the best you're going to get. Wouldn't hurt to plug into another tv to make sure.

FunnySniperXD

I want to buy a game code from the USA but im from Spain can I change my region to redeem the code

Michael-the-Great

Yes. You can change and change back. You might have to buy future DLC for that game from the USA eshop too. Not all DLC is region free.

Team7UBard

Yes

Michael-the-Great

Hey there! Find a less NSFW way to ask what you want to ask. Thanks!

RebsInSpace

Does anyone know to salvage joycons used by a smoker? I bought a pair of joycons in the color I really wanted off eBay and they just arrived at my house. I knew they were used, so I tried cleaning off a little bit of grime that I could see on them, but I'm now realizing they clearly came from a very heavy smoker's house because the buttons and joysticks absolutely reek of cigarettes. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell? (I would really prefer not to disassemble them if possible!)

IpomoeaDust

I think it would be more trouble than it's worth, honestly. That smell is extremely difficult to get rid of. If the seller didn't disclose that they came from a smoking household, I would consider returning them for a refund and trying to find a pair elsewhere.

Michael-the-Great

You can open them up and use rubbing alcohol to clean every component. But it might be a real pain to clean. Just cleaning the outside will help, but the smell can come from the inside too.

[deleted]

Just got an OLED Switch. I find the speakers to be really quiet, is this normal?

Michael-the-Great

I wouldn't call them quiet, but not super loud either.

[deleted]

Was kinda worried that I might be getting a faulty unit, but oh well. I'll probably pair it to my Bluetooth speaker now.

Michael-the-Great

Sure, You'll have to compare to a friend's Switch to be sure there's not an issue.

MissNatary

Can anyone tell me a good brand that makes cases/shells/skins for nintendo switch oled? The ones that you make around the device and leave on permanently. I think they are made out of soft silicone ?

Dragunfli

Wondering if Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is worth playing in 2022. I have the gamecube version and have been wanting to pick it up and play again. I know the launch of this game was really rough, but has it been improved? I’d also like some additional thought on how Super Monkey Ball plays compared to the Gamecube versions. Thanks.

IpomoeaDust

Caspian's comment already summed it up, but I was really surprised by how much I didn't enjoy CC (I have the GC version as well). I tried the demo and didn't last more than 5 minutes before I gave up and deleted it. It just... wasn't good. I would recommend trying the demo and seeing for yourself - I was really looking forward to it, but it was unfortunately a pretty immediate disappointment for me. Nostalgia goggles, I guess.

CaspianX2

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is tedious, the multiplayer is unintuitive to set up, the load times are frustrating, the menus are clumsy... there's just a lot here that makes this game a slog. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD has all of the issues of removing motion controls from a motion-controlled game *plus* a horrible camera, lacking features, and lackluster minigames. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is an absolute delight. The camera still ain't great, but it's not as much of an issue here, and while the physics aren't spot-on for the original games that hardly matters. There's a good amount of content here, a catchy soundtrack, lots of fun minigames... this game is the first game in a long time that recaptured the spirit of the beloved GameCube originals (though of course, being a glorified remaster of those GameCube games doesn't hurt).

Michael-the-Great

Monkey Ball is fun, but the engine isn't nearly as good as the Gamecube engine. They redid it and decided it was close enough. It's worth it on sale in my mind.

Hey there! Just a friendly reminder of Rule 6 - Account buying/selling is against Nintendo's TOS, so we don't allow discussions here.

Michael-the-Great

Make sure there's nothing in the bottom of the dock and the two circles next to the HDMI port are clean. Inspect the HDMI ports for damage. Try another HDMI, another HDMI port, and another TV. After that, there's not much you can do except try a friend's Switch and a Friend's dock to figure out if it's your dock or your Switch.

ColdColt45

anybody know if wal-mart ^^USA price for Splatoon 3 is $50 or $60 for in store purchases?

Michael-the-Great

They haven't done new Nintendo Switch games for $10 off in a while.

ColdColt45

thanks for saving me a trip!

Al3xandratheGrape

Okay let’s see if this works and the mods won’t get on my butt for asking questions. I just got the OLED for my birthday and installed my games and everything but when I reopen Splatoon 2 it had me back at level 1. I’m new to all this so I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but do I have to put the SD card somewhere? Is there even a place to put the SD card of the OLED switch? Also if you have advice that I should know I would appreciate it thank you.

Michael-the-Great

Save games are never on the SD nor can you put them on the SD card. You need to do a profile transfer or transfer individual saves. If you have an animal crossing, you need to use the Animal Crossing Island transfer app.

OwnManagement

Why would the mods get on your for asking questions in the Daily Question Thread? Yes, the OLED has an SD slot in the same location as every other Switch. Saves aren't stored on the SD card though, only ever on the internal storage. And since Splatoon 2 doesn't support cloud saves, your only option to move the save file is to have both consoles in the same room and do a transfer via local wireless. You can choose to transfer the save data for just one game, or transfer the profile as a whole (along with **all** associated save data, except Animal Crossing which is a special case that requires the Island Transfer Tool).

Sephardson

> Why would the mods get on your for asking questions in the Daily Question Thread? We don't action rule-abiding questions asked inside the DQT, but we do remove many posts asking questions outside the Daily Questions Thread.

Al3xandratheGrape

Yea I’m fairly new to Reddit and let’s just say the mods weren’t very friendly. Also they just lectured me on the rules instead on let me know about the discussion board. I have no idea what I’m doing here and I just look for a little help not aggressive accusatory mods.

Monstromi

The sd card is only for games, not for saves. If you still have your old switch you can do a full system transfer, https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27394/~/how-to-transfer-user-and-save-data

_freespirit21

how do i transfer my ac save to a new switch

nihil__verum

See the instructions in this support article: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a\_id/53668/\~/how-to-transfer-animal-crossing%3A-new-horizons-save-data

KidKitzman

Okay, so I have a switch currently, and I also just ordered the new Splatoon model OLED system. I know I can transfer users and my save data, but I see that moving my SD card is going to force me to delete all my games, which I'd rather not have the inconvenience of if I can avoid it. Are there any workarounds to this? For instance, can I back my SD card up on my PC and move the files back on after it's reformatted to fit the new switch? That would be wonderful!

OwnManagement

There are no workarounds. Game data is encrypted to work only with the Switch that performed the download. You have no choice but to redownload all of your digital games.

KidKitzman

Thanks for the info! It's not a huge deal, but if there was a workaround, it would've been convenient lol

Burger_Bobs

Would I be able to play splatoon 3 multiplayer on 2 of my switches with 1 digital copy?

Dukemon102

With the same user? No, the secondary console will get blocked. If you use another user in your primary console **that needs another NSO** you both can play online.

KidKitzman

I'm assuming 2 accounts that are on the same family plan don't count then?

OwnManagement

That would be fine.

Dukemon102

Yes, that counts.

citizen-zombie

Is it possible for multiple profiles on the same Switch to have differing Language / Region settings? Apologies if this is a "stupid question." I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Monstromi

They can have different region settings since that's decided when you make an account. And the eshop will be displayed in the language associated with the account. (For example, I have a side account on my switch for japanese games. If i use the eshop with that account, it will be in japanese.) But the game language depends on the system wide language setting. So that will be the same for every account

citizen-zombie

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping I could have a profile for Japanese games, independent of a profile for English games. Now I know. Much appreciated. Have a nice weekend.

Hayllit

Hi guys! I want to buy a Switch Pro controller and I found a nice deal on one, but it has a code/designation/ something that's NSP140. Anyone know what this means? Couldn't find anything on Google and support didn't know either

Michael-the-Great

I'm not sure but there are lots of fakes so I wouldn't buy from a third party seller or from a weird store of any kind.

Hayllit

Thanks man, I don't know what to say. Apparently the store is legit and has been around forva while in Romania. I've only seen this code on some shops in Romania, Hungary and Poland. It's so weird that nobody knows what it is

Michael-the-Great

It's probably a local distributor item code. In some countries Nintendo sells, and in some countries official distributors sell, and in some countries unofficial importers sell.

markaznar

Can I complete the Nintendo switch oled initial boot up setup using Hori split pad pro joycons instead of the bundled Nintendo controllers? I am purchasing it second hand and already wiped clean via factory reset but does not come bundled with the Nintendo joycon anymore. Thank you

TemptedTemplar

You need joycons to complete the initial setup as they have to be connected to the system and then used wirelessly right afterwards. Which the splitpad cant do, as its handheld only. You should have at least one pair of joycons anyways. Some games do require them as the only supported control method. Additionally, if you havent purchased the system yet; dont. Buying used systems or Just the tablets is almost never worth the savings. You end up needing chargers, controllers, and/or the dock and it always exceeds the cost of just buying a new console.

markaznar

The entire package is complete minus those tiny joycons, which I won’t ever use and only asking regarding initial setup. He is also giving me the Nintendo pro controller, Splatoon edition. With that said, I really do not need those joycons and only asking regarding initial setup

KidKitzman

This might sound stupid, and they might say no, but I've had local game stores like gamestop, etc do favors like this for me in the past. They might let you set it up there with some joycons that aren't packaged up yet. Course, they COULD tell you no, but I've had some really nice employees help me out with harder things in the past.

markaznar

I see. I’ll give it a try. I wish Nintendo allowed any “attachable” controller to work during initial setup😌

TemptedTemplar

But you DO need them for the initial setup. Do you know anyone with a Switch? You could just use theirs for a brief moment. They dont become tied to your system or anything like that.

markaznar

Oh. It won’t complete the setup if I attach the Hori spilt pad pro instead of the original joycons?

TemptedTemplar

No, the step involves using them in handheld and then wirelessly.

markaznar

1. “Yes” it won’t proceed the initial setup without the bundled joycons OR 2. “No” you don’t need the original joycons to complete initial setup Is it 1 or 2?

TemptedTemplar

1. It DOES have to be a pair of Nintendo Joycons that can operate either in handheld mode AND wirelessly. The splitpad pro or other *handheld only* devices, will NOT work to complete the setup.

markaznar

I see. Not even those Binbok controllers which can be used wirelessly or attached? It must be the original joycons?

_BJK_004

If someone could answer these questions please, thank you Is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order still worth buying ?? Is Monster Hunter: Rise still worth buying?? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still worth buying??

Michael-the-Great

Those are all good games. They're all worth it.

TemptedTemplar

1. Did you ever enjoy the older Marvel UA games? Do you like super heroes? or perhaps just want something with a short grind to it? Then yes. 2. Absolutely. Its still getting free updates through at June of next year. 3. Always. No contest. Get it first even. play through it, then play the other games and then go back to it.

Team7UBard

How would they all not be worth buying if they’re things you’re into?

_BJK_004

Just with them been out for so long

mathkor89

If I get a Nintendo subscription for the retro games, does my friend need one to if we’re going to play local multiplayer ? ( two switch lites)

TemptedTemplar

Local wireless multiplayer isnt supported with the classic game apps. Its single system play or online only. If both of you need the subscription, then get the family plan; you can have up to eight accounts subscribed for less than the price of two individual subs. Brining in other friends or family members brings the price per person down even further.

DawgBro

Any word of if Splatoon 3 has a quicker or skippable intro than Splatoon 2's daily news?

OwnManagement

It's skippable.

Great, thanks!

KidKitzman

Splatoon 3 just came out today, and it controls much better than the previous games, has a better story mode, and is noticeably better balanced.
