The Islanders "jobs"
By - WaitThough_
Josh was playing baseball while getting his masters degree… he was able to get an extra year of eligibility due to Covid cancelling last years season. He finished his baseball season one day before flying to Hawaii.
Oh wow. How do you know all that?
I know Josh lol
Just curious- what discipline is he in?
Undergrad in business administration with a minor in sports management and his masters is in business management/marketing.
See that to me is way more interesting than his "fun-fact" about cheating on his gf with her best friend (and the gross detail of it being within an hour's time of each other or whatever that was). I wonder if more of the islanders are pursuing advanced degrees and it's just not being shown.
I'm also curious about Oliva and her business. Maybe this is intensified because I'm a New Yorker, but there's really a lot more intriguing aspects of an individual than what they look like half-naked.
I completely agree but remember they show you only 1 hour of a 1-2 day filming period. Also it wasn’t his girlfriend, not that it makes it better, but he was not dating either girl.
That actually does make it a lot better though 😂
I guess yeah 🤷🏻♀️😂 Josh is actually very sweet and caring but he didn’t initially get a very good edit. Hope that changes !
He seems like a decent guy imo. Made one mistake but Shannon hasn't been perfect either. At least Josh actually feels guilt unlike Jeremy or Cinco.
I wonder if hiding the islanders’ advanced degrees is done to keep them “relatable” to a broad audience on CBS.
They don’t have their phones lol
But at least they are still able to receive certain TEEEEEEEEEXTS
Lol true. I think those are fake phones from what people have said. They can only get texts from producers and no internet access or anything.
yes you’re right! i remember last season there was talk of one of the guys’ phones being “broken” (it had internet access) so they knew what people were saying about them online while in the villa lol
I think they can text each other as well. Coz the UK islanders can. So it must be the same for them too
Definitely not josh considering he’s in the villa without a phone rn lmao
Ooo didn't know they weren't allowed their phones.
Yeah because otherwise they could read up on social media who the favorites are and stuff
My daughter is entering her senior year, and next year will also do post grad work and play one more year of softball....but she is just now 21.
What school? I follow college softball religiously!
3 for 3. Oldest girl played at Oklahoma State, middle girl played Fresno State, youngest girl is in the SEC...don't want to give up too much info 😆
That’s awesome. What a cool legacy of softball you provided for your kids. I’ve probably watched at least one of them play (OSU or SEC)!
Can we just get some real pencil pushers as the next bombshells haha? Lol like regular ass dudes and gals who had to use all their PTO for the year just to get on this show?
I wouldn’t last very long! My PTO days for the year don’t even add up to be a whole month lmaooo
Matt Hoffman: “____ left the villa because they had to return to their real job” haha
I mean most of the people who apply to this show or any reality tv show lbr are looking to go into the influencer sphere or to get spons. A boost to their sm. If you’re genuinely looking for love… I mean I personally wouldn’t be applying to Love Island in order to find a long term and steady relationship lol. Especially with the track record LI US has had with long lasting couples outside the villa… which is still at 0 so far.
I’m not saying there aren’t people who are genuinely there for a love connection but most apply for other reasons as well.
I totally get what you’re saying, and you are definitely right! I just think it would be funny to get a couple “normal” people in the villa with them. Like have them talking about 401k’s and like their lawns at home and their favorite recipes
OK this was sort of the undertone of my original post. I meant no shade to anyone's occupation (or lack-there-of), but it feels as if producers are infantilizing the audience. Just say they're an influencer/aspiring influencer, we get it. Or like have them say their hobbies if they aren't gainfully employed. I guess it doesn't matter, but I found it irritating.
It’s better than The Bachelor, which once legit listed someone’s career as “Tickle Monster” on the on-screen graphic with his name and age
I can’t fathom me or any of my coworkers risking our careers like that (or being able to take that much time off)
Connor was an accountant and went back to it for a bit after the season ended.
That’s right. He went to the same college as me which is very well known for its accounting program. Many graduates work for Top 4 accounting firms after graduating.
I have hard time believing Aimee is a private chef (from the looks of her IG, I figured she was a model or a video vixen). Don’t get me wrong, I freaking love her, but it’s just not adding up.
I think Trina and Cashay’s jobs seem legit. Same with Lord Farquad and Isaiah.
Lord farquad 😭😭
I'm assuming you mean jeremy? LOL
The funny thing is I thought he was attractive at first. Then he started talking and it just felt...empty in there
Brad walked so Jeremy could run
Yup lol. He reminds me of him so much 😩😂
Hahaha crazy that you just knew who they were talking about
Im sorry but im dying of laughter over the lord farquad comment 😂
My friends and I usually do just come up with nicknames for these types of casts because their names rarely stick but this one is BRILLIANT.
a “private” chef = a job that can’t be independently confirmed
I don’t think Aimee’s job is really “personal chef”.
I don’t even think she knows how to cook Mac and cheese
lmao why not?
edit: nvm i read the rest of the comments lol
>lmao why not?
Based on some friends of mine who have similar "occupations", plus the similar looking instagram accounts, I think she's an SB, like Shannon (who used to date Dave Portnoy)
Gets flown out by rich men, hence her jetsetting lifestyle, but no discernable source of income, hence her low following. If she can parlay her connections with a larger post-show following, she could either reach higher net worth/ higher profile guys like A-B list actors or she could really do some food collabs, like a vegan meal prep range for people who travel, or a vegan snacks range, or even an app on where to find vegan food in different countries.
She also has no food postings or even a food insta, which is sus. A private chef would join a show like Marsterchef (an acquaintance of mine did this and was able to open a restaurant off the back of his success on the show)
What is an SB?
> Dave Portnoy
A sugar baby
From context, I’m guessing sugar baby.
Not quite sure about Josh's situation, but I think most likely Kyra has a generic degree and is using it in some sort of administrative job in healthcare, hence COVID relief (edit: I was right, she works in staffing, here's her [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/kyralizama/)).
Will lives in LA, where recreational use of cannabis is legal.
Dang! Just saw Kyra went to the same high school as Obama - that's pretty sick!
what does weed not being legal federally have to do with anything lol
he works at a cannabis dispensary, in a legal state. end of story really
His profession is completely legal though so the fed’s can not do that
They have no grounds to arrest him on drug charges. Where he works, it is a legal job. He would only get in trouble with the DEA if he was doing that in an area it wasn't legal. Even then the feds wouldn't step in unless he was head of a large organization, the local government would arrest a small time drug dealer.
See Kyra’s job makes the most sense to me. There were so many COVID related jobs in 2020 that didn’t require a healthcare degree or license. I did lab testing on a temp contract and I knew a few people doing contact tracing or vaccine distribution. It was one of the few fields hiring last spring and summer and they’re winding down in a lot of places.
Absolutely. You don’t need to be a doctor or nurse to work on COVID related items. I know multiple people who have degrees in everything other than science and are helping with the COVID situation where I am from. All hands on deck kind of approach. Not sure why OP thinks this is odd.
Budtender is a legitimate job anywhere pot is legal.
Got it. I didn't know he lives in L.A. (the website just says he's from Colombia)
What was his profession? I honestly only really remembered Josh being a baseball player and Aimee being a chef.
"Budtender" which usually means he works at a retail Marijuana shop. Usually they just grab what you want off the shelves and ring you up but if you're not sure of what you want or if you want information about a product they can advise you a bit.
Ever since last season, I don’t really believe most of the job occupations anymore lol. Most of them are influencers or without a traditional 9-5 so they make up occupations for them. I’m not even sure Aimee is really a private chef
Pretty much. Even in Big Brother (during the earlier years), a lot of the houseguests were given different titles, since having 6-7 people have their jobs titled "models" or "wannabe actors" isn't appealing, lol.
Most of the jobs are bullshit, most of them are actually just models.
In kyra’s intro she said she works for the DoH doing vaccine rollout. Idk why they put COVID relief worker… a strange decision there for sure.
Possibly less controversial or less specific because she simply couldn’t be specific.
this whole time i thought will said he was a “BARtender” because of his accent 😭😂 but he lives in LA where weed is legal so he probably just works at a dispensary, it’s a legit job
There was an article about Josh and baseball and how he was finishing a championship and was allowed to fly to Hawaii late.
Covid relief can mean a lot- I know someone who did swabs.
Obviously there's the person in this thread who knows Josh, but I just wanted to add that it's not uncommon for college athletes to be older. Sometimes they'll take a year or two off after high school to train or go to a sports academy or something. There were like five guys in my dorm my freshman year who were 21
Trina is a psychiatric nurse
I've been watching too many reality shows. Just had a health inspector stop by my house and they guy was so cute I couldn't help but think he should be on Love Island. 🤦🏼♀️
Oooh girl I'm guessing you're in a relationship if you didn't shoot your shot 😏 lol
Hahaha great guess! I'm married. When I looked through my peep hole and saw the hunk standing on my porch I first thought "Oh God, I gotta primp! This guy is so hot!" And then I remembered I was married and just answered the door in my pj's with my messy bun. Hahaha 😂 The whole time we were talking I was thinking "Damn, Love Island needs to cast some sexy scientists." 🤣
You can play college sports at any age, really. Not everyone gets the opportunity to go to college right out of high school.
I'm a college professor at a top performing social mobility school, so I'm very aware that not all students start their academic career at 18. I'm just not as familiar with college sports and it seemed to me like something one would traditionally continue right out of high school. It was cleared up that Josh did attend college right after high school but is still matriculating at 24 because he's pursuing a Master's (according to u/ambermademegetit) .
I gotcha! Some college athletes won’t enroll until their mid 20s and then walk on to teams. Instead of receiving the usual scholarships, etc.
I mean kyra is basically an influencer (from what it seems) and she probably volunteered to help with the COVID situation since it’s still really bad in hawaii
edit: oh also when they said will was a budtender I assumed it meant he worked at a weed dispensary. seems like he’s also into modeling/acting/etc. as well
I assumed Kyra was probably a contact tracer or something?
Lots of college athletes take 5 years to graduate to account for the red shirt year others become grad transfers etc
To my knowledge, most people who are athletes finish in 4 or 5 years. You can’t play past 5 years. Covid could’ve changed things though and USA may have different rules, but in Canada that was typically the case.
I think Kyra talked about this. She was involved with the vaccine clinics. Not a nurse, but I think she did the admin side or something.
In Canada, we’re starting to get the bud tenders!
He red shirted his freshman year in college and then played his sophomore, junior, senior, and 1st year of grad school. That’s 4 years. But Covid season cancelled last year so this was his second year of grad school and his last year of Eligibility.
I didn’t realize you could play during grad school. I thought it was only undergrad.
You can as long as you have the eligibility, which he did because he red shirted freshman year. You get 4 years total and it doesn’t matter undergrad or grad school.
So is there gonna be be a drop today
not today, today and tomorrow are just regular episodes
There’s a “Laid Bare” episode streaming tomorrow at 1pm ET/10am PT as well. It’ll be every Friday
Ok thank you
I’m pretty sure Kyra said she has been working with vaccine administration. That could be just registering people and getting them signed in.
