I really liked the shots and how easy it is to understand the premise. A small recommendation is to change the font since it doesn't really fit the tone, a simpler and less decorative font might work better. Looking forward to seeing the full film!

itsMineDK

I agree with the font

bread_and_circuits

I’m a fan of the title font. Carrying it through all of the credits maybe doesn’t work for me though.

mykumouse

Honestly, I can vibe with the use of font at "I Could Just Die" but not with the rest of it. In general though I think it would be better named just "I Could Just Die".

JellyfishGod

I love the font and actually recognized it as Iv used it in my art a lot but yea I could maybe see a diff font working better for the film.

perrara

i just want to compliment the actresses here, the phone dialogue felt so real and honest, just by the tone alone i can sense MC's anxiety, and the operator's sincerity (i kinda hope the film will involve their dynamics, but if not it's ok maybe i'm just swooning over the operator's calming voice lol)

katerama

Haha the operator is actually played by me, so thanks! And yes, Courtney was spectacular. The full film does include more conversations with them, as the operator is the only person she can be honest with—her husband is well-intentioned, but has no idea how to help her.

TTRsttos

And where can I watch the movie?

katerama

We shot this trailer as a proof of concept for the crowdfunding campaign, so it’s not done yet. But please do follow us on Instagram at @i_could_just_die if you wanna check on our progress!

charros

Bruh.. you had me intrigued. The ONLY thing I might change is the title font. It seems a little over the top and distracts from the experience of the trailer imho. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise 10/10.. would watch.

Equivalent_Train4184

All right? Alright.

katerama

Technically “All right” is the correct way, though I know “alright” tends to feel better. But someone also pointed out that I have a comma splice in the title, so this point who knows haha.

This is my first post here! I'm mostly a Reddit lurker, but I'm really proud of this project and wanted to share it. In June, my team of 2 producers (one was the gaffer,) myself as the Writer/Director (I also did the set decoration and sfx makeup) and my DP got together with a few other friends who work as crew in the industry as we do and shot this trailer for a short film we plan to shoot at the end of November. Some people might wonder why we shot a trailer for a short film--aside from trying to get more funding to make the short than we could afford on our own, we are a meticulous bunch and knew we could use this as a solid practice for the actual piece, which will in many ways be the most ambitious project any of us have done. Our cast and crew are credited on the Vimeo page. We shot overnight in about an 11-hour period. Our support crew was our sound mixer, his assistant, another friend who was our G&E swing, and one AC. Our DP operated camera herself. We were all vaccinated and all wore masks the whole time, even outside. Camera/Lenses: Alexa Mini with Angeniex EX lenses The gaffer is up in a lift on set right now, so I’ll post the light units we used later. I can definitely answer questions about specific lighting and camera setups for each scene if anyone is interested. We did some wonky (but safely executed) stuff. This has been a challenging project for me since it's a very personal topic. Depression and suicide attempts are not things I ever thought I'd be talking about so openly. But I think talking about this stuff is the only way to destigmatize it, and I think it's really important. It's gotten a lot easier, but it's still terrifying when I stop to think about it. But it will be worth it makes someone feel more understood.

ste189

I thought you did incredibly well for a trailer, it's does what it's meant to do, creates the enticing feeling for more and sets some parameters for the plot. Bravo Being uber critical I personally don't like the name, too long and the "that would be alright part" kills the potency of the "I could just die" just my opinion however

Gurnir

Great trailer! Where I can I see the finished film?

katerama

We are still in the crowdfunding phase (we shot this trailer as a proof of concept!) but if we make our goal, we will shoot at the end of November. Fingers crossed! Glad you enjoyed it!

Gurnir

im crossing with you! Good luck!!

Skunk_Giant

Looks very interesting! Gotta say, I personally disagree with the comments about the font - I think it looks great actually.

katerama

Thanks! I get where they’re coming from, but I like it :)

katerama

Hi there! Thanks so much for saying that, I wanted to be super careful. I am really glad the warning let you know not to watch it. I wrote this film trying to work through a really dark time in my life, and the last thing I would want is for it to hurt someone else.

astronomicalstars

Amazing, what did you guys shoot with?

katerama

Alexa Mini and angenieux ez lenses! Thanks for watching :)

venetian_lemon

I'd watch this. Release when?

Decimo_2021

I want to see more and I want to see it now. lol Great job on the trailer. It really caught my attention. Now I want to see the short film. Hopefully it just turns into a full blown movie.

katerama

That would be awesome! We shot the trailer as a proof of concept for the crowdfunding campaign for the short, and the short is planned to be a proof of concept for the feature. I’ll definitely post an update if we are able to get funding and shoot the short at the end of next month!

Decimo_2021

Nice! Made sure to follow you. So I can see if there are any updates.

MK-Ultra92

This looks amazing can't wait to see the finished product, agree with others about the font but other than that 10/10

[deleted]

Great trailer. But please change the title. It makes it sound like a regular YouTube video.

katerama

Haha it is a very blunt title. I’d be super worried if I saw it as the title of someone’s YouTube video though

tinyjerryseinfeld

Tiny complaint but that comma shouldn't be in the title

katerama

Haha that’s probably true, I’ll check my grammar before posting again 🤓

Digiknives

Woah!!! This looks awesome!

arbab_islam12

Such an immersive experience, I wonder how the film will feel like! I would love to see it once it comes out ❤

katerama

Thank you! That’s what I’m going for, so I’m happy to hear it. I’ll be sure to post when we shoot the full short (this was a proof of concept we shot in 1 night for our crowdfunding campaign.)

reasonablyminded

That’s really good! I’d love to watch it

AsyluMTheGreat

Dialogue sounded good and I liked some of the cinematography, especially the high angle closet shot with great lighting. The only shot that pulled me out was her running toward the car. It looks like it's going far too slow to be a real threat and the sound mixing felt a little off.

hushabunny

1. you got an amazing performance out of your actors, great work!! 2. drop your camera specs pls + thx <3

katerama

Thanks! Alexa Mini with Angenieux EZ lenses

hushabunny

tysm!

dejuanferlerken

Nice.

BadAssWriterDirector

Badass trailer. Links to Facebook page and crowdfunding site?

a_shakaron

The drone shots at first felt a bit out of place compared to the darker shots throughout the rest of the film, but after watching a second time I think they make since. It's like an unthreatening, sterile environment with a dark underbelly. Plus, the cookie cutter houses give a lonely and alienating feeling, which definitely works for the premise of the film.

katerama

I actually agree with you about the drone shots! We should have done that when it was darker, but we were working with the drone operator’s off time so I’m just grateful he did it at all!

a_shakaron

Totally understand. Gotta do with what we've got. Great work regardless.

BadAssWriterDirector

Followed on both. Looking forward to this.

katerama

Thanks so much! Hope we get there!

TheZunza

where is the music from at the start, sounds very familiar

katerama

All the music was composed by my friend Dan Carey Bailey, who has composed the music for my last 3 shorts! He's brilliant

falkorv

'Come and get me' made me laugh. This looks great, and I appreciate the 3:2 ratio.

katerama

Haha thanks! I was actually lying on an inflatable mattress behind her for that scene, holding her hand. That line was my cue to yank her back onto the mattress with me. Not sure it reads as violent as it felt. I've gone back and forth on whether I wanna stick with 3:2 for the full project. It's great for running shots and for giving off a claustrophobia-inducing vibe, but not so great for close-ups of her eyes and showing the uncanny valley effect of those McMansion-y neighborhoods. I have talked to my DP about possibly using 3:2 up until the transformation scene, then transitioning to 1.85:1 as subtly as possible to open up the world. We'll see!

falkorv

YES I love an aspect ratio change. Homecoming being a great use of it. Good luck!
