It’s not only power level. It’s about whether the individual has any desire to keep living as part of a civilization, having relationships with people who do and if material possessions still have any personal value to them. The Abstracts you list are beyond all of that have always been. They didn’t start out as beings the way we are. Galactus was, as the start of the universe, a member of a regular (albeit extremely advanced) civilization like us before he changed into what he is now. Before he became Galactus, his name was Galen. It’s been shown many times G doesn’t really need his world ship or his machines to roam the universe eating planets, but he chooses to use them because they save him energy and he likely has a personal connections to still living in some way like a humanoid. Franklin Richards is a reality warper so he doesn’t really need to do much if he doesn’t feel like it, but because he was born and raised human, he still chooses for the most part to live a human life. The Silver Surfer could just hang out on whatever planet or space rock he felt like and never deal with any civilization but he generally chooses to be part of a society to some level. Captain Marvel, especially when she had her binary powers, could almost live like the Surfer but again like him, she’s chosen not to be a cosmic hermit. Once a character is powerful enough to directly see to their personal needs they could divorce themselves from society but that’s not the same as society’s demands being irrelevant. The relevance just at a certain point becomes a choice.

AdaptativeAlchemist

This is well written. Thank you. But no matter how powerful Iron Man's suit becomes, he still needs money and lawyers, right ?

Leighgion

Not necessarily. If Tony built tech that was truly self-sustaining, he could decide to go hermit and keep himself fed. His limitation in that regard would be more medical since he’s physically mortal.

AdaptativeAlchemist

He could upload his mind on the internet.

The basic answer is: If it came to a full-on fight between you and humanity, could you win? Things like money and connections are useful because, fundamentally, monoploy of force. If you do things without taking part in human society, the police and eventually army will come stop you. Connections and money increase the amount of things you can do without society turning against you. Mr Fantastic and Iron Man could *probably* be killed by humanity, push come to shove. It wouldn't be easy by any means, but we could probably pull it off if we really needed to. And besides, they're heroes, they don't want to fight us. So they have to play the game of society. On the other hand, if Eternity wants our planet, it can just take our planet. We can put all our collective efforts together and then it can vaporize the earth. Our sanctions don't mean anything to it, so it doesn't need to take part. Ot, in short, all political power ultimately comes from the barrel of a gun. If you can simply ignore the gun, political power is no longer relevant.

AdaptativeAlchemist

Thank you. This is the answer I needed. So in summation, if I can dust the planet, I don't need any mortal stuff. But what if I want to rule the planet ? Say I have the Phoenix level psionic power and I can control minds and I have technokinesis that can monitor every bit of data on the planet. I don't need political influence in these cases, right ? Also, does Doctor Doom need political influence ? I seem to remember him having diplomatic immunity and having Captain America as a bodyguard. But his technology and weapons are light years ahead of any military. He seems to become virtually omnipotent every few years.

ragnarok413

I believe Doom has diplomatic immunity as a symbol of peace. He's still the King of Latveria, even though he could enter pretty much any country and start ruling through power. The POTUS has diplomatic immunity in several countries the US could wipe off the map through military power or nuclear power. It's more of a symbol of peace, for the use of a better term I can't think of.

AdaptativeAlchemist

Thank you.

TheyMightBeDead

I think this depends on both your particular power level but also your psyche. A lot of people mention reality warpers which is a good start, but even that depends on the person themselves and what they truly crave. Molecule Man is now at a level that even Galactus was weary to speak to him, but he still made personal possessions in his sub/pocket dimension because I'm sure it's the human part of him that enjoys having such comforts.

AdaptativeAlchemist

Was Molecule man never nerfed along with the Beyonder ?

TheyMightBeDead

Maybe? I know he got a major buff either right before or during Secret Wars (the 2nd one) and he showed up in The Ultimates

AdaptativeAlchemist

I remember he could fight with Pre Retcon Beyonder.

Kerosene_kerosensei

Galaxy Level.

KamenRiderChronos

Basically if you have reality warping abilities, all of those things don't matter as much.

AdaptativeAlchemist

At what level ? Is Scarlet Witch level sufficient ? Or cosmic cube level to be on the safe side ? I doubt Infinity Gauntlet, Heart of the Universe, The Astral Regulator level are necessary and are just pure, absurd overkill.

Quintink

Some people don’t have any powers or money and give up worldly possessions think like monks and stuff so I think it’s more about any givens persons mind set

AdaptativeAlchemist

My question is at what level of power you no longer need these things to run your operations and protect your interests. But a monk will die if hit by a bullet. I do get your point though.

Quintink

Depends on the universe I guess in that case, for our world probably someone with abilities on par with handcock from movie handcock he basically was just doing his own thing for awhile no real job or cares just being alcoholic A healing factor like Deadpool maybe

AdaptativeAlchemist

Yes. DCEU superman should also count. Dr Manhattan is probably the best example.

His-Endless-Rambles

That’s pretty much what happened to Blue Marvel after his wife died and before he joined the Mighty Avengers. As an antimatter being he doesn’t need to eat, drink or sleep and doesn’t even need oxygen to survive. He spent all his time in a lab at the bottom of the ocean studying other dimensions until Thanos invaded Earth and Shuma Gorath attacked New York.

AdaptativeAlchemist

I will read up on it. Thank you.
